Attempting to Drive from RI to Kansas in 24 hours today (1 Viewer)

Just loaded up EZ account, hope $100 for tolls is enough. Leaving in fifteen or so.

Side note, I blew a disc in my neck. So I am in agony if I do not take two ibu and a vicodin every four hours. I crash off pretty hard at the end of four hours. Curious if it will keep me awake, or make me more tired. Usually it goes me. And yes its a legal prescription.
Sheesh man every subsequent post makes me more and more nervous for you, ha. Your son is 18, Interstate driving is as easy as it gets if you know how to use cruise control. Let him drive a bunch. When are tryouts? Will he have some time to rest up after you arrive?
Yeah, Tuesday afternoon. Not sure how to even use cruise on this fwiw.

If you need anything while in town send me a PM. Or have any questions about where to eat, have a beer, etc.

If going through Chicago, the easiest way to go is I-55 to I-70, but I-70 traffic is bad per a previous post. An alternative is CKC (Chicago/Kansas City) IL/MO 110. Was developed as an alternative using several Interstate routes, but is takes many exits and if you miss one you can get lost.

I would have considered 146 to 90east thru Mass and NY down to Cleveland. Depending on where you started in RI, I assumed Providence. Just to avoid NYC at all costs. Nominally it is a longer trip, but you reduce the risk of massive traffic jams through CT and in/around NYC by a lot.

Good luck.
Due to popular demand in this thread, going this way now. Saw a RI state police already. Wazxe is dabomb

Nice! Wave to my mom out the driver's side window when you cross into MA.

I did Ft. Worth to Cleveland, 1200+ miles, in one shot by myself back in the day. I don't think I would want to do it again at this point in my life. Especially not while on Vicodin.
I did Tennessee to Vegas in 24 hours solo. I wisely chose to go in the opposite direction chemically.

I drove West Palm Beach to NJ one shot. The last few hours I don't remember

Will be doing NJ to Chattanooga in a couple weeks

Years ago I did a Boston-HiltonHead run for a weekend+ of golf and random fun. Picked up several peeps on the way down. Even tho we had multiple drivers (some with really heavy feet) it took ~23hrs each way. I don't ever want to do something like again. The golf and random fun? Sure, but I'll fly .

To put things in perspective, I did Munich to Manchester in one day, which Google Maps rates as about 900 miles by road, and I was shattered by the end of it. But I was doing it by train. Would never, ever consider driving that long

Honestly, this sounds like a lot of fun. I did a 20 hour road trip by myself a couple of years ago and it was a blast, but admittedly I broke it up into two days. That would be a fun trip to take with your son. Have a good time.

done two of those. boston to minneapolis and nj to fla solo. wouldn't do that again ( did the same as you on the return trips/broke in half). like a poster above mentioned, didn't remember the last few hours. next day was just weird, highway miles just running thru my head. need to let the kid drive portions.

So far so good. We are playing 90's hip hop.

Also, I would try to time it so that you're not hitting St. Louis at rush hour. That city sucks to drive through IMO, but it's not so bad if you're off-peak.
Uh, no, not really.

Any major city will have traffic at rush hour, but it's better here than any other big city rush hour I've ever been in. In general, traffic here in STL is quite good.

Best traffic of top 20 metro areas

ETA -- Just checked more to make sure I'm not crazy. Despite being the 20th largest metro area in the US, it ranks 79th in the US in traffic congestion.

And, the worst areas (270, in particular), is not what you're driving through.

Interesting call out, but not accurate. Drive freely!

So, St Louis has ONE thing going for it.

Congrats.

So, on top of the marathon drive while under the influence of opiates, you are posting on an internet message board as you drive? You're my hero.

Please be careful...
I have a prescription, and I take half a 750 every four hours. Nothing really. Plus I stop to post. I can't start a thread and then abandon it ffs.

I'll echo what Chief said, if you need anything while you are in town let me know. I live about 8 miles from that Fieldhouse. I have never heard of New Century, but that place is in Gardner, KS, which is basically one town over from me. I can give you an adderall for the ride home

Just don't mix in any roadies and you'll be fine.

Is your son not much of a driver? Curious why you are so hesitant to tag him in.

Because I'm the GOAT

I get it. I am much more comfortable doing the driving on road trips as well. It aggravates my wife that I never let her drive
