Avery and Hankerson Stock Down (1 Viewer)

I have both of these guys on my bench, and watched a bit of each of their games yesterday while flipping through the Sunday Ticket.

It seems like TY Hilton is pushing Avery for the #2 receiver spot and looked like he was seeing more work and more snaps.

Also Hankerson only got 1 target and Moss is reemerging.

Anyone panicking in regards to either/both of these guys? Obviously these guys weren't preseason studs but last week they were viewed as having some value and could be counted on for some bye week coverage or what not, but now I'm not so sure.

I haven't checked any numbers but I don't think Moss is "reemerging" from a PT, or # of snaps, POV. Hankerson's PT is far more dependent on him beating out Josh Morgan. I said it in a different thread (forget which one now), but I think those two (Hankerson and Morgan) are going to be duking it out all season for the #2 spot. Neither of them are going to let it go easily, which probably makes neither of them a very good FF option.

I think Avery is a low end WR3 for this year. He'll be inconsistant. How many targets he gets vs. TY Hilton is likely very changable based on what the opposing defense is doing I believe. If they are doubling Wayne, they might send him on a short out to clear the middle for Hilton to split the seam with a deep route. If the defense is keeping the safeties deep, then look for more short stuff to an accomplished route runner like Avery. That's strictly my impression as I haven't watched any Colts games...

Hankerson and Moss are off my radar entirely.

Moss is useless unless you're in a 16-team league. Unless he takes 1 of his 2-3 catches/week to the house, he can't help you.

Avery is still the WR2 on a pass-heavy team, and he'll be a useable bye week filler or spot-duty WR3 for FF purposes.

I've had both on various teams this year.

Hankerson's situation isn't favorable. I think he's droppable in all but the deepest leagues right now.

Avery could still be useful. Seems he was close to having a bigger week 5:

Donnie Avery was held to three catches for 22 yards in Indy's Week 5 win over the Packers.

Drawing a surprising amount of defensive attention as Reggie Wayne shredded the Packers secondary, Avery could haul in just three of his eight targets. He came within inches of a much bigger afternoon, however, as he was narrowly overthrown by Andrew Luck on what would been a 51-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. As it is, Avery was well behind Reggie Wayne on Luck's targets totem pole, and actually drew one fewer look than T.Y. Hilton. Avery is worth holding onto in 12-14 team leagues, but it's looking unlikely he develops into more than a WR4/5.

Hilton was getting more snaps, but they weren't coming at Avery's expense. The Colts were in 3 WR sets almost the whole game. According to PFF, they ran 67 passing plays and WR/TE routes run went:

65 Avery

64 Wayne

54 Hilton

37 Fleener

22 Allen

11 Brazill

5 other

Hilton is no threat to Avery - Avery has to get more consistent, and hope teams start taking away Wayne on the other side.
