Belichick - Does He Draw A Fine? (1 Viewer)

Anyone's that read this board knows I think Bill Belichick should go straight to the Hall of Fame. He's my #1 coach of all time.

But for those that saw the replay, wondering what the feeling was on him shoving a camera guy out of the way that was doing nothing more offensive than standing there taking a photo of Mangini.

I don't think I can recall a more flagrant camera guy chuck from an NFL guy in a while.

Does he get a pass? Or does Goodell fine him?

Is Kenny Rogers his brother? They certainly have something in common...

I think its a disgrace that nobody is even making a mention of this incident. Even during the game the announcers just ignored Belicheck basically assaulting the cameraman. Is it because its Bill Belicheck that nobody is mentioning this?

I watched that again on Tivo -- what happened was that some photographer from BB's right came crashing into him. At that point, he got mad and pulled the other photographer out of his way.

It was uncool, but clearly a reaction to being shoved and jostled. I'm willing to bet the NFL does a much better job of keeping post-game photographers under control following that incident.

What was he supposed to do? Tap the guy on the shoulder and say "Excuse me, I'm the head coach of the New England Patriots, would you mind stepping aside for a moment?"

It was unnecessary, but I think we've seen worse.

I was more intrigued at how two coaches didn't even seem to make eye contact before the pseudo-hug. It was nice to see them acknowledge the rift, but the embrace clearly seemed forced.

I look forward to this. What are you expecting? Ropes and stanchions? Sheep dogs?

You're right. It's such an impossible task to control 20 camera men, they should just give up now.

They already do ropes and stanchions at the Super Bowl. But I'm thinking they'll just limit the number of guys allowed on the field after the game.

Hard to see on that clip but I believe he also shoved another guy out of his way after they had broken their embrace... I understand his behavior, but he should be fined for it. The NFL has to set a consistent example for all players and coaches.

Bill Parcells did pretty much the exact same thing after the Pats-Jags playoff game in 1996, trying to get to Tom Coughlin at midfield after the game. If I recall correctly, there was no fine.

I think it's important to just control the guys that are gonna be a problem. For example, that guy, standing there, taking a pic of Mangini? Just asking for it, wasn't he?"Hey, you! Quit standing in one place, and photographing the coach!! What did we tell you about that?"All sarcasm aside, here's the point:What Belichick did was no big deal, but if anyone was in the wrong, it was him. Bill showing impatience by chucking a photog out of the way isn't some sign that the NFL needs to get the post game photographers under control.Let alone using phrases like "willing to bet".

On local TV after the game, one of the announcers said the photographer was from the Boston Globe, and well known to everyone. Apparently, there was a ton of pushing and shoving (which the local announcer blamed on the New York Media, LOL), and the Globe photographer along with another guy were basically pushed into Bill as he was making his way over. What we saw was Bill’s reaction.

Joe, I'm right there with you. I saw that and my first thought was "what a jerk." I would hope the NFL would at least publicly reprimand him, if not fine him. While we're at it, let me ask you this: If a player has his sock length off 1/2" or you happen to see a "foreign" color peek out from under his shoulder pads *BAM* a fine from the fashion police. Why is it that BB gets to dress like a homeless man?

There will be no fine, there will be no change in rules for post-game photographers. The reason being is because this is a non-issue.

At MOST there will be a frivelous law suit by the photographer - and more power to him, that's the American way.

I haven't seen the video (and can't while at work). How does this compare to Kenny Rogers a couple of years ago? Since I haven't seen it, I can't comment on whether he should be finde, but judging by this and his treatment of Mangini, as well as other things, I can say that Belichick is a first class jerk.

It doesn't compare. At all.

A fine? Are you kidding? For THAT?
Watching it LIVE it was much more abrupt, accompanied by something like "get out of here" or "get out of the way" in a very brusk growl.
Ohh there was a "brusk growl". In that case, 50k. I watched it live too - really didn't think it was a big deal. But I understand that the general non-NE homer public needs as many ways as possible to hate on Belichick, so by all means.

Camera men are the scum of the earth. You should be allowed to punch them if you want. These people will do anything to get their photos. So no fine. I applaud Belichick for this.

I don't think he should be fined for that, but I do think he should be fined for looking so hideous with his dress code.

maybe he gets a letter of rebuke from the Commissioner but I highly doubt he gets a fine.

Okay, thanks. I'll check it out later.

The only reason the camera guy is on the field is to get a shot of the Mangini and BB handshake. To much was made of a silly midfield greeting. And NFL security should have had better control of the situation didn't need any where near that many camera guys on the field. No Fine in my opinion. If Commish talks to anyone it should be NFL security for not having better control of the situation. That is their job to provide a safe environment for coaches and players !!

Here’s the transcript from Bill Belichick after the game:

Q: What did you say to Mangini after the game?

BB: Do you want to talk about the game? I’m not going to get into a postgame analysis here. Really, I’ve had enough of that.

Q: The photographers thought it was a big show.

BB: There were 80 people between me and Eric. I’m just trying to coach the team, that’s all. I’m just trying to coach the team :goodposting:

I wonder what would have happened if it was T.O. or Moss that did it?

So you don't think that prior history should influence how an incident should be interpreted?Better question: If Tony Dungy did this, would this thread have been started at all?

BB is not a cool guy, but he isn't paid to be nice...

If this was a fan, he would get a small fine, but I'm guessing this type of abuse comes with the cameraman territory.

Are you serious? The guy was just doing his job and got shoved out of the way. I'm not saying that it warrants a fine but nobody deserves that type of treatment for doing their job.

That would be extremely ignorant on the part of the NFL.

I fully realize that Belichick rubs some people the wrong way, and that he would get crucified by the media if he hadn't won 3 super bowls. But please, Joe, don't be one of those people. There's no story here and no reason to make a thread. This is borderline smut/smearing of the guy.
