Ben Watson Owners: Week 15 Waiver Wire TE Matchups (1 Viewer)

Shockizzle

Some of these players might not be on your waiver wire, but nonetheless, who are you guys looking at this week to fill-in for the injured Watson? (He may still play, but this is the worst-case scenario)

Owen Daniels @ Patriots

Bo Scaife vs. Jaguars

Dan Campbell @ Packers

Vernon Davis @ Seahawks

Tony Scheffler @ Cardinals

Daniel Graham vs. Texans

Jerramy Stevens vs. 49ers

...etc

What are you guys doing this week? Vernon plays Thursday so it might be a good idea to make a quick decision.

I'm debating between Davis, Scheffler and Graham (in that order of preference), however, the potentially terrible Seattle weather is making me think twice about Davis. :goodposting:

My first thought was to grab Scheffler but Utecht is looking better all the time. I also think his game could be a shootout.

How long is Clark out? I would like to get 2 weeks out of Utecht if I pick him up.

What about the Colts' other TE, Fletcher? He might be worth considering in deep leagues. Could be a sneaky play.

My WW is picked clean. None of those Colts TEs are available, so I am looking at Scheffler or D Graham. I will probably roll the dice with Scheffler. Who knows who Brady is going to throw to every week...

Seattle weather tomorrow: Wind driven rain showers early with a steady, soaking rain later in the day. Snow levels above 3000 feet. High 47F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Rainfall possibly over one inch.

Winslow is on my waiver wire.... he's got a tough matchup vs the Ravens, though. Would you guys consider him a good play still?

I know the Seattle weather is bad, but I'm going with Stevens anyway.

Primary motivation is that Football Outsiders says SF rates #1 in the NFL for fantasy football points allowed to TEs.

i thought it was the bengals....other reason to start utecht.

Marques Colston and picking up a WR off waivers *ducks*

Seriously, I'd be looking at Scheffler, Vernon DAvis if he's available. I do like the Ben Utecht theory as well. I have Harrison on MOnday night and I'm sure Peyton will throw a couple to Ben to spite me after I spent all Sunday laughing at how the Jags ran on the Colts....karma's a bit*h sometimes.

I just scooped Scheffler. I've got Desmond Clark on the bench, but, I think Scheffler is a better play. How have TE's faired this year vs. Arizona?

my backups are daniels and d. clark (have watson in both leagues; i think both have fallen off too much to be good replacements. Leaning toward Graham, thinking more playing time w/o Watson. ALso thinking about Utecht, though.

Count me in.....because my waivers are locked and he's my backup. I think I'd go with Vernon Davis if I had the choice of plucking him off waivers.

FBG's Bob Henry says "The Panthers are the #1 fantasy matchup for TEs".

Due to roster constraints he's on my wire too, but I passed after reading about his knee problems. Doesn't sound like he's 100% right now.

 How is he not a top-5 TE in your league???

I think the safest move is to grab Graham.

Scheffler and Cutler had nice rapport in the preseason and the Broncos desperately need to find another target beyond Walker - and the Cards is a decent matchup. My main worry is that TBell will carry the ball so much that Cutler won't have enough opps to get the ball to him, but that could also open up some GL targets for Scheffler on play action.

What is the point of these reactions? All leagues are different. For instance, Derek Anderson is a starter in my league while Winslow is on the wire. It can happen, people. Relax.

Scoring Scoring Scoring.Under FBG scoring, you can check the FPs against.Carolina, Cincinnati, and San Diego give up the most points to TEs.San Fran is above average, but not at the top.A lot of that has to do with the kinds of teams these teams faced during the season - Cincie has Heap, Miller, and Winslow in the division.San Fran has no TEs of note in their division (AZ and St Lou start rookies, and Stevens has been banged up all year and the Seahawks have not passed to the TE as much as in previous years)

All I asked is how is he not a top-5 TE. I would assume any top-5 (actually top-6) TE on your WW is the guy you go after.I didn't act surprised he was on WW.

I agree, relax.

He's #7 in my league.Right now I'm deciding between Vernon Davis (high upside) and Kellen Winslow.
Well, since this has now pretty much become a WDIS and WDIpickup, I'd go with Davis for that high upside. He will be heavily targeted - IMO< Davis = Gates/Gonzo in the making as far as targets per game.

Top 5.... great... that's through 14 weeks. How about the last 5 weeks... where does Winslow rank...Anderson/Frye QB problem... Heiden getting 40-50% of the TE looks. Something changed a couple weeks ago.

Winslow wasn't THAT dominant to double team... or he's an easy double team, because the likes of Gates/Gonzo always seem to still get theirs... and Kellen had equal numbers the first 10 weeks or so.

I just dropped Bo Scaife for Vernon Davis (over Fletcher, Scheffler, and Stevens).

This is an unsettling feeling. I had Watson, but a strategic drop backfired and he was scooped up. At least I can feel good knowing I'd have had to make this decision even if I hadn't lost Watson.

Any thoughts on Heath Miller. Carolina gives up a lot of pts to TEs and with no Cedric Wilson and not 100% Hines, could Heath get looks?

utecht, scheffler or lj. i mean it cant get more random than that. 1 guy might catch 3 td's and the others might not have a catch. there is just no way of knowing!

I agree with you. Winslow's targets are averaging half of what they were prior to week 10. I think the combination of the change at QB and his knee surgery is catching up with him. I have Watson/Winslow on my roster with Davis and Scheffler on my league's WW. I'm strongly concidering dropping Winslow for Davis this week.

I'm adding Dan Campbell to my list; Green Bay is #4 on the list I checked for most pts allowed to TEs. In my league. looking at last 5 weeks, he's done better than Utecht and comparable to Graham.

I was #2 on the waiver wire the week of New England's bye. Rather than take the 0 points (or drop one of my RB's), I decided to drop Watson figuring the guy ahead of me, who hadn't made a move all season wouldn't pick him up. I dropped him for Alex Smith (who got me 3 freaking points). Anyway, there was some bizarre glitch with Yahoo and the guy who was 3rd on the WW (behind me) put in a waiver claim. For some reason, I decided to just wait until Monday or Tuesday of that week since our waivers don't run until Wednesday. We have a two day waiver period, although all players go on waivers once the games on Sunday begin. I check Sunday morning, and Watson is still on waivers and all of the New England players are, as well.Monday morning comes around and I check my score and notice to my horror that Yahoo processed the waiver claim for Watson and he was now on an opponent's (who had Shockey) team.Because I got a little too cute and Yahoo screwed me over, I have had a revolving door at TE ever since. First Alex Smith, then Dallas Clark, then Bo Scaife. And, now Vernon Davis as I mentioned above.Still crazy?

Vernon got picked up in 2 of my leagues.

I dropped Winslow for Graham... something (as I've said before) changed in Cleveland... wonder if he's hurt. Regardless, it's playoff centric league, and Watson may be out for 3 weeks... so I can use Graham hopefully thru 17, and then use him in the playoffs as well (as Winslow/Browns... are staying home in January).

I was going to go with Davis, but the visiting offenses on these Thursday games have been atrocious. I don't think that's a coincidence given the short week and traveling they have to do. Just picked up Graham instead.
Love to see some stats on that point. Miami was visiting Detroit on a Thursday game and fared pretty well. That said, and to stay on point, I am going with V.Davis this week in lieu of Ben's Questionable status.

Miami scored 27, while Tampa scored 10, Denver 10, Baltimore 7 and Cleveland 7. So, 4 out of 5 were below their average with the one exception coming against the 29th ranked defense.I'm not saying you should make your decision based on this, but that info combined with Davis' inconsistency shied me away from him this week. All in all, I'd say that since the TE position is so deep this year and there haven't been many monster games, it will only be like a 5-point swing between most of the options discussed in this thread.

I think it is 5-1 in favor of the home team with the away team looking horrendous the last two thursdays.

daniel graham
D Graham is listed as questionable also and I read that he missed part of practice today.I need to decide between Desmond Clark, Utecht or Graham. I picked Desmond up off the waiver but after some thought I am not sure  Will Watson be a gametime decision?

Wow....that worked out quite well for us.

Clark is my backup now, but in my scoring has put up zeros the last four weeks. So, I'll be dropping him for one of the others you mention or, more likely, D Campbell.

Good news for Watson owners?

http://news.bostonherald.com/blogs/patriots/

The Patriots released TE O.J. Santiago, placed TE Rod Trafford on practice-squad injured reserve and signed TE Matt Kranchik to the practice squad. Both Santiago and Trafford were brought in this week, and Santiago went on the injury report yesterday and missed practice today. Kranchik has played in eight games with the Steelers (2004-05) and Giants (’05) over the last two years, before being cut by the Buccaneers at the end of training camp.
