Benson Is Terrible (1 Viewer)

Do I get a ribbon for managing to trade away Cedric in both leagues?Had high hopes coming in (kept him in a 12 team PPR 4 player keeper, drafted him 2-14 in a 14 team PPR redraft) but he's turned the same effort in every week regardless of opponent. Enough to help keep my team 5-0 with around ten points per week but nothing more.Traded him with Welker and a 5th round pick in week 3 of the keeper league for Edge James and a 10th and traded him in the redraft this morning along with Joey Galloway for Dwayne Bowe. He and Galloway had been on my bench for 2 weeks. He might be the glue holding my two 5-0 teams together but probably not.
Did those guys you traded with use lube?
I offered both trades. The merits of a very deep bench.

Everyone thinks he's gonna crap the bed against Minnesota's run defense, but I'm here to tell you that he BLOWS UP this week. I'm thinking 130 & 2. It was Minnesota who Benson had a nifty 24-yard TD run against at Soldier Field last year where he outran the cornerbacks and safties to the corner of the end zone. All of you criticizing Ced for bouncing it outside instead of hitting it up between the tackles will be eating crow this week BECAUSE of that fact. The key to running on the Vikings is avoiding the fat twin defensive tackles. Once Benson gets outside on this defense, Minnesota will be in for a long day. Add in the fact that the Vikes aren't gonna score more than 7 or 10 points, and that means Benson RUNS RUNS RUNS all day long. The TD against a very good Packers defense will give him just enough confidence to start producing.

In fact, I'm so sure of this that I'm starting him over A-Pete! :goodposting:
I thought you'd given up on Benson?
I wasn't able to trade him, so I'm stuck with him. That said, there aren't many backs who are guaranteed 25 carries a game, so he has some value. He's not an every-week starter, so you have to pick your spots. I simply think Benson against the Vikings will fare better than Peterson against the Bears. We shall see.
Okay, I must have been high the other day. (Good possibility, actually)I can't sit A-Pete for this suckmaster. If sitting Benson costs me a win, so be it. :homer:

So, Cedric Benson, with a high of 24/101/0 rushing and 1/9/0 receiving, and the same guy who has posted a high of 74 combined yards (0 TDs) with 69 combined yards and 1 TD last week (link HERE) over the last 3 weeks, who plays for the 31st ranked rushing attack in the NFL (tied for last with a 3.1 yards per carry average), and who is playing the #1 rush defense in the NFL averaging 62 yards per game allowed to date, with 0 rushing TDs given up, is a better option than Adrian Peterson (Min)? BTW, he's had but 1 reception in 4 of 5 games this year, with 5/24/0 vs. Detroit - Benson isn't going to "pad" his stats in the passing phase of the game. Benson is going to be better than the same Adrian Peterson (Min) who has over 100 yards combined in every game played this season, who has scored TDs in 2 of 4 games played, and who is facing a Bear's D that averages 98.8 rushing yards allowed per game (12th in the NFL) and which defense has allowed 4 rushing scores to date?

Adrian Peterson's production will crush Benson's this weekend, unless the entire Minnesota starting defensive line and linebacking corps suffer cramps and heat exhaustion in the 65F temps at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Hey RN - I get going about 1000 MPH at this time of year. I scanned the thread and saw someone thinking about starting Benson over Peterson, so I tried to discourage that notion as I thought Peterson was VERY likely to outproduce Benson in that matchup (Benson ended up on the bench at the end of the game, BTW). Now re-reading I can see that you were actually sort of engaging in self-dialogue. Nothing personal.

At this point, in a dynasty, is Benson a 'BUY LOW' candidate, or a 'SELL BEFORE HE HITS ROCK BOTTOM BECAUSE HE SUCKS AND WON'T BE STARTING NEXT YEAR' candidate?

Yeah that is about right.I can't believe I got Peyton Manning for him before the season started. LOL.

Let's get some week 7 chatter going up in here. I am in bye week HELL this week.

T.J. had a great day on the ground (130 yards) against the Eagles yesterday. Can this PoS Benson be expected to do ANYTHING against the Eagles in Philly on Sunday? I don't have much of a choice, so I hope someone sees some potential in this matchup.

May I suggest saying a small prayer because that PoS will probably get you his usual 6-9 points.

Can someone PLEASE show him Adrian Peterson's game tape?Taking the handoff with your head up, actually looking at the defense and finding holes = GOOD

Taking the handoff, putting your head down and plowing right into your linemen for -2 yards = BAD

Did anybody actually see the game against Minny? He averaged what 3.7 YPC against the best rush defense in the league?

:excited: He looked terrible.
He looked good to me. He had 9 carries for 46 yards with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and he didnt touch the ball again until partway through the 3rd quarter. Long time to be out of action. Plus Benson had 5 carries of 10+ yards. See how easy it is when there are holes and he actually gets the ball? Then Turner had a brain fart and went totally away from the run after 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter. I thought they were suppose to be a running team, and their back is ripping off 10 yard runs and averaging 5+ ypc and you go away from him?

I'm starting to really wonder about Turner ... How are the Bears offensive woes everyone's fault except his?

Posted this in the game thread. He really pissed me off when at the end of the 3rd qtr, and we had just gone down 21-14, he decided to throw 5 or 6 straight times leading to an INT. No excuse for that kind of play-calling....none.

What about when it is 4th and half a yard and your power back is ripping off 10 yard runs and you call a QB sneak and Grieseball fumbles it. This twice happened two weeks ago against Detroit also when they were inside the 10 yard line and instead of running the ball Turner calls passing plays and Grieseball thows a pick both times. They diserved to get beat by Detroit and as sorry as Minnesota is they deserve to loose to them also for going away from the run. I realize that in both games they got behind in the 4th quarter and had to pass but my point is in both games they went away from the run in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. If they wouldve stuck to the run expecially in those key situations where Grieseball thought he was Rex they wouldve beat both Det and Minn IMO and that is the difference of being 4-2 rather than 2-4. Also this defense appears to be a totally different unit. All of those guys should be ashamed for letting a rookie blast them like that. In order to win at football you have to be able to stop the run and they couldnt and you have to be able to run the ball which Turner always seems to forget.

It's the O-line's fault. He just needs another year as the starter to get things going.

Now just focus on Benson, not how bad the opponents may be.

This is NOT the same guy Im watching every Sunday

Would you trade Benson straight up for Marvin Harrison in a keeper league?
I'd trade Benson for a sack of grapes - Straight Up!!!!
I just unloaded him for two sacks of grapes. I've held this guys since his rookie year and I finally had enough. I figured I better get something for him while I can. I got Earnest Graham, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th rd picks for him. I also have LJ and Portis so I am not hurting. I just couldn't deal with it anymore. At least I got some value for the guy.

I think it would be a mistake to give up on Benson and the rest of the Bears offense after one week based on a road game at SD. However, I would be on red alert. The Bears only gained 202 yards of offense and looked completely inept, it wasn't just Benson, it was the whole freakin' offensive unit. It could be a long year for them.
This seems to be holding up. I think the title should be changed to "Bears Blow". If you still own Chicago Bear offensive players you should probably divest now.

No he didnt look good, a RB has to keep his head up. A running back has to hit the seam with authority. Benson is not capable for what ever reason to run over anyone, he seems to go down too many times on first touch. This dude is a big back and he should be laying the wood all over the place. Go and watch Frank Gore, the 49rs are terrible this year and thier o-line is much worse than the Bears IMHO, Gore's numbers have suffered, but when he runs he looks like he wants to kill some one. If Benson had half the heart of Gore he would be what all of his supporters think he is.

There is zero chance this guy watched the game. Everything he criticized Benson for he did for the first time all year in the Minn game.Very annoying to just spout off without having a clue.

I am from California, but spent the past week visiting friends in CHicago, including watching the Bears game at a nice little sports bar filled with fans. The Windy City was a blast and they certainly love their sports.

What was interesting to me, as I am a Benson owner and have read through most of these 11 delightful pages, was that the folks in Chicago are not nearly as down on Cedric as folks who live in the world of Fantasy Football. I know that the offensive line woes have been well documented, and I found it interesting that the city of Chicago seems to see what many of us see - a lack of holes for the big guy to run through. As anyone who watched the Viking game saw, there is a possibility that the line could begin to open a path for Benson, and while he may not be an all world talent, he can eat up chunks of yardage once he's pointed down hill.

Anyway, just wanted to point out that in the real world of football, and specifically in the great sports town that is Chicago, people seem to be much less down on Benson then here in the Shark Pool.

But, who cares about the real NFL, right?

offensive lines don't exist in Fantasy Football and have no effect on ANY players owned in FF . . .WHAT are you thinking???

There is zero chance this guy watched the game. Everything he criticized Benson for he did for the first time all year in the Minn game.Very annoying to just spout off without having a clue.
Its whats Nice about having Direct TV NFL season ticket and the NFL network, You get to see all the games. I watched the MINN/CHI game to see Peterson run against Chicago. You guys are not facing reality. If you watched that game and saw Benson doing anything else than what he has done all year, then your seeing things Im not. Your seeing him thru the eyes of wounded fantasy football owners and thats all. He still ran with his head down, still ran up the back of his teams mates and still went down too easy. I have said that after every game and you know why, cause tigers dont change thier stripes, Benson is as Benson Does.

That anyone still supports that PoS after 6 games into the season, well......
