I honestly thought this got bumped because someone was nominating True Detective. It's got early potential as one of HBO's all-time greats, but it's way too premature to start talking show legacy yet.

I think you can put Game of Thrones up there already. But really Band of Brothers and True Detective are miniseries so I don't think either really belong in this conversation.

Suggestions as to the order in which I should watch the following? I'll probably only have hbo go through this summer so not sure how much I'll be able to get through.

OZ

Deadwood

Six feet under

Band of brothers

Boardwalk empire
These are all fantastic. Hard to go wrong either way.

Game of Thrones definitely deserves consideration. I'd rank it in the top 10 for sure.

Of those listed:

The Wire

Band of Brothers

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Sopranos

I'd put GoT at the 2 spot if it were listed. I added Sopranos since BoB shouldn't really be listed.

IMO, it's the best start of any of their shows and one of the best starts ever, though the short season greatly influences that. A 22 episode per year show isn't going to pack that much into their start. I wasn't in on Wire or Breaking Bad (obviously not HBO, but fits the short season category) so I can't totally relate how I thought their starts were, but I'm having a hard time thinking of another start I like more. I watched the Sopranos pilot and thought it was horrible, but by that time I was pretty much done with Italian mob stories.

As for TD's legacy, it's writing it as it goes. It's a mini-series, so in a week the legacy will be written. Not sure how the fact that each season is a reboot will affect that though.

Inside the NFL and Not Necessarily the News should be on this list imo. Not top 5 but on the list.

Looking at the results- way more people need to watch Six Feet Under.
Six Feet Under was very good.* But it's not the best which, again, is the The Wire. As it was ten year ago. As it is now. As it will ever be.

*I group it with The Leftovers as underappreciated but phenomenal HBO shows. Nonetheless, they aren't The Wire.

I just started The Wire……will get back to the legion of The Wire fans.

So far I can sense the gritty high quality show it will be…..but we are very early in season 1.

The Leftovers was phenomenal, and vastly under appreciated by most.

Hm, curious. Surprised Sex and the City isn't getting more love on this message board full of middle aged men.
