For the record I don’t think rappers are devoid of talent and there’s plenty I like. I also don’t care if people want to call them singers. We could probably end any debate by just saying “vocalists” instead of “singers” in the OP.

Plenty of rappers rap on pitch, including my two examples and the Blondie example. Now, the pitches they rap/sing may be limited to only 3-4 notes and they may or may not be in the key of the instrumental arrangement. But as I mentioned upthread, it’s hard to draw a hard distinction in those instances.

When Cobain died I was bartending at a hotel with a nice jazz bar. Some good acts, always true pro jazz guys in there. Anyway, two musicians were in there setting up at the same time as me, and Cobain's death came up.

Unbelievable to me that she’s not in the rock and roll hall of fame. I get that it’s not really “rock and roll” but given who they have let in, that ship sailed a long time ago. It’s basically musical greats.
