Best singer that died young? (2 Viewers)

Rapping is not considered a form of singing as it does not involve a melodic delivery of lyrics. Instead, it emphasizes rhythm, flow, and spoken phrases. Despite occasional overlap between the two, they are distinct art forms.

is rap a form of singing?

the answer is no!
While both involve using the voice as an instrument, singing emphasizes on holding notes, pitch changes, and melodic patterns, whereas rap is all about the rhythmic delivery of rhyming verses in a spoken word-like style.

Because of the more intricate training that is required to become a good singer, singing is an order of magnitude more difficult than rapping.

Using the technical definitions provided above (and elsewhere), prove which definition each example fits under

These are the definitions you are advancing. I’m asking for your answer regarding the two examples based on how you’ve set up the distinction. Do you care to answer? If you are having trouble or are resistant to answering, perhaps the distinction isn’t as clear as you make it.
The difference between singing and rapping is best exemplified in Blondie's Rapture, where she does both in the same song. Her expression of each form is distinctly clear and matches the technical definitions I've provided almost to a T.

Then you can answer your own question.

Blondie: Rapture

Why can’t you answer regarding the two examples I offered? I’m simply asking you to use your own criteria. Why is that so difficult?

The snow one sounds like Dance Hall reggae not rap but I’m not familiar with Snow, generally.

Emminem sounds like rapping with maybe a slight melody?

For the record I don’t think rappers are devoid of talent and there’s plenty I like. I also don’t care if people want to call them singers. We could probably end any debate by just saying “vocalists” instead of “singers” in the OP.

Plenty of rappers rap on pitch, including my two examples and the Blondie example. Now, the pitches they rap/sing may be limited to only 3-4 notes and they may or may not be in the key of the instrumental arrangement. But as I mentioned upthread, it’s hard to draw a hard distinction in those instances.

Cobain? God
No. Sorry.
Oh my god, this reminds me of a story.

When Cobain died I was bartending at a hotel with a nice jazz bar. Some good acts, always true pro jazz guys in there. Anyway, two musicians were in there setting up at the same time as me, and Cobain's death came up.

Musician 1: Hey did you see that Nirvana guy died?

Musician 2: Yeah! That's crazy, you've heard him sing right?

Musician 1: Yeah

Musician 2: No wonder he killed himself.

And they shared this conspiratorial little laugh.

Amazing voice.
Karen is always my answer for favorite female vocalist. The quality of her voice is just outstanding. Breaks my heart that she passed away young and was miserable during the last stage of her life.

Her voice was iconic. Perhaps the smoothest female voice I’ve ever heard. And besides, she was one hell of a drummer!

She always considered herself a drummer that sings. So talented.

Unbelievable to me that she’s not in the rock and roll hall of fame. I get that it’s not really “rock and roll” but given who they have let in, that ship sailed a long time ago. It’s basically musical greats.
