Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Are you kidding? Tubby's job was seriously in jeopardy?
Of course it was. The team had imploded in the Big 10 schedule in 2010 and 2011, and this third year they go from being ranked #8 earlier to not receiving a single vote in rankings last week. It's remarkable with this talent they could go from shoe-in NCAA to maybe on the outside looking in over 5 weeks, but it is a reoccuring issue. How it happened, struggling to get to 50 points with these scorers, is tough to watch. I don't personally agree he should be let go because I remember well the failure of previous post-Clem Haskins coaches. However, no way was Tubby generally considered untouchable after losing 8 of 11 with this roster. I don't see how they can miss the NCAA now, but let's say they lose the last 3 and do miss, I think there is legit chance he would be gone. Let's face it, the team has proved it is capable of playing Duke close and beating MSU and Indiana, but (in my scenario) loses 12 games? The great wins make the losses that much more inexplicable, and that has to reflect on coaching.
Down 32-11 in the first half, looks like they are on track to finish up the Big 10 with losses to Nebraska and Purdue. Maddening.

Tubby gets the boot after this year? That was an absolute abomination of an effort by Minny. I honestly think the Indy win saves him for this year.

Congratulations to Roy Marble and Devyn Marble to becoming the first father/son in the Big 10 to both score over a 1000 career pts.

Wisconsin hitting a 30 footer at the buzzer to beat Penn State. Penn State the laughing stock of the B1G, actually played good ball the last 7 games or so.

To go 4-0 against MSU and Michigan this year is a hell of an achievement.

Indiana earned every bit of that outright Big Ten title. I can't remember a more competitive Big Ten season.

Congrats Garrett, your guys earned it. I think the B1G runs roughshod over the rest of the NCAA field in the big dance this year.

Doubtful. In the years of Big East domination, they rarely ran roughshod over the field.

Is it just me or have all these teams looked very tired the last week and a half?
Is it wrong of me to hope Michigan loses so they get a little bit of rest before the NCAA tournament?
I said it previously, I'm hoping State just wins its first game and then bows out of the B1G tourney. They definitely need to reenergize before next Thursday/Friday. On the flipside, the winner of the B1G tourney (if its Michigan, MSU or tOsu) could be lookiing at a #1 in the NCAA. Indy already has their #1 seed.

yes seriously. the rules are quoted in the article. speaking of "seriously???"--
“I asked to see a rule book and said even Assembly Hall allows away fans to wear their own jerseys and we practically invented basketball,”
I saw they have a rule; I think it is dumb that the rule exists.I don't know why some kid is invoking Naismith.

:goodposting: I saw this happen to a Michigan fan when I was in the Izzone. I think it's pretty standard policy for student sections.
Not if you go further South...http://www.wildcatworld.com/bounce/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1523-Custom-e1323555428570.jpg

Gonzage, Indiana and Duke are #1 locks right now. The win was huge for Indiana because they will get to play in the NCAA regionals in Indy. Georgetown/Kansas/Miami will get the final #1. I see Michigan, MSU and OSU playing for #2 seeds right now. I think there are two #2 and one #3 amoung them. The #2 is a big deal, because in rounds one and two Michigan and/or MSU will get to play in Auburn Hills and be at home. Each will have to make it to the semi-finals of the B1G to get a #2 seed, IMO. If Michigan loses to PSU or Wisconsin, they will drop to 3.

Probably right. I think either Kansas or Miami get one of the other #1's. Not sold on Georgetown.

LOL. Didn't even see that yesterday. Crean's a jackshaft. What can you say about U of M? More puking on their chartreuse shoes. Had no business losing to Penn St. last week and now just hand away a sure thing. I thought at the least, Burke wouldn't miss. Ugh. Not good. Free throws boys. They choked away one banner to hang but are still able to turn things around in the next few weeks. Good grief I had to suffer through watching the 2nd half of that game with my petty sparty in-laws and wife's side. I'm convinced that they care more about a U of M loss than they do a sparty win. They were glued to the U of M game but didn't even care to watch the MSU game which came on immediately after. Turned it to the Wings instead. These are the kind of sparty fans I see.

:goodposting: Definition of a dooshbag.
I'm sure you enjoyed the Davis/Sampson era more. ;)
I've always thought this era has been pretty enjoyable as well. You know, the one where they were about ready to fire this coach for Brad Stevens until Zeller fell into their laps.ETA: Not sure how that makes Crean any less of a d-bag. Guy is always flailing and yelling like a petulant child.

Not sure how close they really were to firing Crean.Players "falling into your lap" is called recruiting which is kind of important aspect to the job - Crean is good at that.Agreed he acts like a nut on sidelines and is a bit odd in general. Dbag is a bit harsh.

Fair enough about Zeller. I guess I shouldn't discount the recruiting completely but that was a huge get for IU and if they hadn't gotten Zeller, I doubt Crean is still there. But they made one NCAAT since he was there. We'll never know how close they were to firing him but my main point is that he was trying to act like this era has been full of domination when in reality, the Davis/Sampson eras were probably better in terms of success.

Crean was not even close to getting fired. He was going to get a forth year no matter what. He really took over a program in shambles and everyone knew that.

 Tom Crean has beat 8 top 10 teams in the past two seasons. What's your short list of the coaches that have done that?

Just watched a replay of the UM-Ind game. Why do the refs let Oladipo flap his arms around like that during free throws? On some of those he looked like he was actually trying to guard the shooter. Weak.
Yeah, I hate those FT arm flappers. LOL.ANYONE ELSE WANT TO TAKE A NON BASKETBALL RELATED SHOT AT Indiana?

Front of the line starts
