Bon Jovi to buy 15% Falcs (1 Viewer)

I don't know if 15% gets him much of any say in the Falcs. Bon Jovi owned an arena team for years, maybe he still does. Every time I saw an article on him and the team, he came across like a very ordinary regular guy all excited to own a team. Like some ordinary guy won the lottery and bought a team, not like a pampered star or some such.

The contrast to Jones, Brown, Mara, Snyder etc is so dramatic he could be a real interesting person for fans if he ever became a majority owner.

I think they're a pretty good investment if that money includes ownership of a new stadium out in the Atlanta burbs. I think with tailgate culture and a nice outdoor venue, they would really blow up.

can't believe the billion dollar valuation though, thats staggering.

yeah I agree.I imagine Atlanta attracts most bands touring the country for their stadium like most do. If they don't, Bon Jovi is sure to improve that and there would likely be a windfall of money from those concerts then. That couldn't be part of the valuation though.

This is somewhat strange to me. Isn't Bon Jovi famous for being "Jersey Boys"?

What possible ties could they have to Atlanta?

Yes, NJ.None, he's owned an Arena league team and wants an NFL team. Blank is looking for buyers to share so that he build a new stadium

Bon Jovi has $150 million, or he's leading an investment group with that amount?

Edit: Sounds like the former. Wow.

Mara/Tisch isn't selling a hunk of the Giantsditto that of WoodyHe did own an arena team in Philly that folded, but I guess Lurie isn't looking for help either.

Just for clarification, the team didn't fold due to poor management or lack of interest. The Soul was a popular team and I think they won a title in their last year. But the whole league blew up the next year and didn't have a season, then regrouped and came back on a much tighter budget, cutting away several popular franchises. Overall I think most people would say the Soul were a quality franchise that had a commitment to winning...not that he'd be running the Falcons or anything. I'm not sure buying into an NFL franchise is ever a bad investment, but it's an interesting time to be considering it with a lockout looming.

He's been known to invest in just about anything associated with NJ. Few people have ever loved their hometown/home state as much as him. Atlanta has to be a big deal/big change for him. If you spend some time googling old articles, the guy is both a smart investor and prides himself on trying to walk a fine line between being a star and being an ordinary guy. If he owns the Falcs, or a part, no doubt he takes the team out to dinner and is seen cheering them on in the stands at camp amongst the rest of the fans. Maybe shows up with trucks of food and BBQs one day for an awesome tailgate party. Maybe he argues with Blank and NFLPA about playing hoops with the team after a practice. What would you do if you owned a team and weren't in charge of personnel? He's probably gonna do that.I saw someone tweeted it'd be like the ol Pete Carroll owning a team and if you can think back, yeah that might be a good characterization NFL fans can relate to. He's going to seem like a nice, regular guy compared to "stuffy suits" and I bet that goes over real big in Atlanta.

15% gets you a seat on the board. so I guess you get to argue over how and why to build the stadium, fire the CEO, that sort of thing. It also gets you a pretty good seat for home games. It probably doesn't give you much of a voice in the war room com draft day.

Seems like just yesterday the Falcons were all excited about moving to the glistening new, state-of-the-art Georgia Dome.
