Bored Upgrade - discussion (1 Viewer)

Trump would have it done by now and FFT would have paid for it too!

Yea you have to click the star or circle to the left now. A nuisance but the least annoying of the new changes.
Presuming you haven't read it.

If you read the thread previously and want to renter it then it takes you to either the beginning of page 1 or the top of the last page, depending on how you click.

Is anyone else really enjoying the slow dissolve effect for the page turns now?  Seems like ONLY TAKES a FEW LONG SECONDS!!

Takes me back to 1998 and having to watch Powerpoint losers try to impress the bosses with their "mad skillz."
Gotta go with Binky here.  The swirly crap gives me motion sickness.

And are we going to get numbered posts abain?

Like Aaron says, there's plenty of boards out there that let you post pics, but of all the ones I've seen (a lot), none of them ever get inundated with pics of cocks and boobs and ######s. Also a simple checkbox in the user profile allowing individuals to turn off images would solve that problem anyhow.
This makes too much sense.

Pics would really freshen up the experience here.

If you click on the + and then click multi quote, does it report the post? I think I just accidentally reported a post.

The Report a Post link is at the top, to the right of the post timestamp. As far as I know the + is just to get multiple quotes to show up in your post, it doesn't have anything to do with reporting.

must be IE11

works fine on firefox and safari
A lot of buttons invisible in IE 11.

Figured out the embedding images thing in IE 11 (from work), though -- can't merely right-click on any old image on the Internet. Gotta select the image first, kinda like selecting text -- only then can you right-click and copy. After that, it will paste into the Reply Box here at FBGs.

Might be a work security thing for me ... but weren't there other FBG forum users, since the upgrade, getting kicked off the forums intermittently after signing in? Sometimes I can stay on for a few hours. Other times, I get kicked off three or four times in fifteen minutes. Really mysterious. Never, ever happened with the previous board software.

One of the most interesting things to me is how low the traffic is to the board now based on the number of people in the FFA at any given time. Typically I would see 150-200 users during the work day, I don't think I have seen more than 60 users since the upgrade.

I'm sure I'll get used to it but I imagine this being a hassle during game day threads with the constant loading and trying to quote someone and get back to where you were. It seems like it takes a bit longer to load each page then before.
Agreed.  I used to click the star to pick up where I left off, quote a post and reply, then hit my browser's back button to go back to where I was reading.  Is there a way to do that now?

Despite what Otis posted yesterday ... a lot of people were simply left behind technologically with this update. I don't remember any of the past updates having this kind of effect.

I think Otis is generally correct about people not leaving in fits of pique -- but he could be wrong about people simply being physically unable to access these boards with their current Internet-access set-up.

Icon's comment last night about Internet Explorer was telling, too. Why do people think no one uses IE anymore when quickly-available online stats show the opposite? What is the disconnect here? I concede practically no one is using IE on mobile devices -- but we're still nowhere near the point where mobile access to these forums is outpacing desktop access to the point where desktop access can simply be ignored. Without stats, I'd bet that even right now the majority of hits to these boards -- during business hours -- come from workplace desktops/laptops and not from phones or tablets.

I do t know if somebody has brought this up (haven't read through this entire thread) but if somebody posts at the same time as you do in a thread, you don't get to read their post after you've made yours. You have to go back and open the thread again to read whatever posts were made at the same time as yours. It's very annoying.

Don't look at the bottom. Click "Online Users" at the top (desktop version). Shows 455 users online about a minute ago
Yeah, I think the bottom list is people who are "browsing" the forum. It doesn't show people who are in a thread. Right now, I'm not in the forum, I'm in a thread. Last check, there were only 8 in the Shark Pool. I realize it's the off season but I bet there are more than 8 people there. Oh, and the 455 users is across all forums I believe.

I brought it up.  Maybe you were writing this as I replied.  Either way, thanks for keeping politics out of this.  So far.

Yeah IE's working fine here too.  Maybe tell your boss that your having trouble reading the FFA on company time and if he can ask your IT department to look into it.

I had to do this a couple years ago.  I brought it up during a happy hour while we had some beers in us and they took care of it.

I bumped an old thread and the quotes were fixed except for the last page.  Good to know they are being processed.
I tried to search for an old thread and it couldn't find any.  The only way to find it was to go back and look at each page, filled with 23 threads each.  F that.  There are some threads I want to update, but I'm not that interested to search for them.

You can use Ask Jeeves to find it.
I just did a search for Ask Jeeves on Alta Vista.  This could come in handy.

I forget, how do you enter in the search for Google?  Is it like "footballguys:  ..."?  And before you answer that: Yes, I am in IT.  And yes, I am an idiot.

If you took your work laptop home and IE still isn't functioning, chances are it's still being limited by the domain group policy.  Content filtering may be different because you are behind a different firewall at home, but components like IE may function the same.  Not sure if you can log into a local system account on the laptop.
As it stands, I can get by on my work computer either at work or at home. Some board features don't work, some buttons/links are invisible, get kicked out after signing in sometimes, etc. But I can get by. Heck, I even figured out the extra step I had to do to post pics.

But, yeah, a lot of things are locked down on this laptop's IE. Really curious about what, specifically, this new board is doing different in regards to its interplay with IE - for instance, what kind of data is it sending TO my laptop now as I browse? And why would certain buttons/links be unavailable in this version of the board software, but not a problem in the previous version? I ask rhetorically: buttons and links are buttons and links, right?

I completely respect how difficult change management is....but I would fully expect Invision to provide a breakdown of what has changed from the last version to the current version: What has been eliminated, What has been changed, What their users need to know, etc  Surely this is available somewhere, right?  I find myself constantly searching this thread for info.

If that exists (which it should.....right :oldunsure: )...can we get it pinned?

I feel like I need a shower after as much time as I've spent going back to Page 2 of this forum.  It's like the ghetto of the FFA.

Sounds like a user error.

Thought about calling out sick due to the emotional distress I've suffered at not being able to surf FBG as easily at work.   :kicksrock:

Have you tried clicking on the right turn arrow that you quoted. It should take you back to the quoted post

Sitting here- gazing at several paragraphs in a post that I know are attributable to several posters but read as one series of paragraphs by the same poster... :wall:

Please tell me that this isn't the new "normal."
