Bored Upgrade - discussion (1 Viewer)

Why do web designers ignore IE? Is the assumption now that EVERYONE is using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari? Everyone? Really?

Web designers should not assume everyone's on "new things" every 5 years or so. Ridiculous.

I think web designers are just making things up to keep themselves employed.  We recently upgraded 2 user interfaces and they are completely AWFUL.  They are much worse.  I don't get how they think it was better.

How do you change the notification blip to a fart as someone mentioned earlier?

This would make a perfect office prank.

Is there a way to turn off all media, pictures, avatars, etc? There used to be on an older version, can't find that option on this new version or the last.

Yeah, I don't want to kill anything for anyone, but I can't be having NSFW-ish pics popping up while I'm actually at work.

Edit: I guess I could work instead.

I notice if I write a post and someone else posts before I hit submit, I do not see theirs show up.  I have to refresh the page to see it.  Old board did it automatically.
I think, but don't quote me on this, if you hit show replies they load (like a page refresh) but you stay where you are. One caveat though may be if the replies are on the next page it might take you there so you might miss posts on the previous page you haven't read.

IE11 (most current) is in free fall and was flirting with single digit use rate as of December... Likely there now.

Nobody uses IE

I'm guessing nudes.  Plenty of people browse at work.
Like Aaron says, there's plenty of boards out there that let you post pics, but of all the ones I've seen (a lot), none of them ever get inundated with pics of cocks and boobs and ######s. Also a simple checkbox in the user profile allowing individuals to turn off images would solve that problem anyhow.

so, you are advocating an image toggle?

As for search functions ... some message boards I belong to just punt searching and just let Google be their de facto search tool. I've gotten used to that, and prefer that to any board-based search function. But, we'll see.
It's not very attentive to users though. Hey our hamster wheel is broken and we don't care to fix but why don't you jump over to another tab, maybe another browser, type out a string and see how it goes. Not troublesome at all.

Meanwhile old popular threads and cool topics are archived so you won't be able to use or enjoy that great content and at the same time fun threads here drop off page 1 even more quickly.

I'm sure I'll get used to it but I imagine this being a hassle during game day threads with the constant loading and trying to quote someone and get back to where you were. It seems like it takes a bit longer to load each page then before.

Right. The quality of TSP will be harmed by this, just watch.

So when you click on a thread, it doesn't take you to the last  post you read? It takes you to the first page every time? Deal breaker unless I'm missing something.

Yea you have to click the star or circle to the left now. A nuisance but the least annoying of the new changes.

I guess we no longer can edit using the html tab.

Of course I mainly used it to clean up nested quotes and link posts.  It looks like that's not needed now.

Regarding using ie, as I mentioned earlier, work decides what browser we use and does not allow updates to the settings.  I have admin rights on my machine, but the settings get overwritten overnight.  I haven't tried using it on my phone yet.

Has there been any clarification on the nested quotes issue? Are all the old discussions basically a waste now because nobody knows who was saying what?

Also...while I get that nested quotes were an issue...having just one quote basically makes it impossible to follow a conversation that is going on.
