Boy who identifies as girl competing in girl's track (2 Viewers)

How are you ruining sports for thousands of girls by making them compete?

by having separate, but equal, you are effectively telling thousands of girls they aren't good enough...
Girls can't compete at the same level as boys athletically.  There's a reason testosterone is banned.

How do you not know this?

All I know is while there is a legitimate discussion to be had on this issue - one that necessitates a great deal of nuance and context and the ability to literally work through the details with some level of intellectual flexibility - why the hell would I even attempt such an effort when we know the history of Higgs and his predispositions (whether that's political/ideological views or his way of engaging or rather not genuinely engaging in said nuances and contextually driven discussion)?

Just saying that had another poster put this up it's a discussion worth having. One where everyone remains somewhat open minded... but with all the experience we have with the   and all in other threads it's just not worth the effort.

sad that is the case but at somebody point enough isn't enough and folks who keep engaging in disingenuous tactics and all are simply blocked out, just voices with no weight, even as this board can be a great place to discuss these very complicated topics.

Having seen how hard these kids work, it is most definitely a horror for them.  The #1 runner at my son's school ran 400 miles last summer.  They live and breath this stuff.
It's not sarin gas.

But I used to ask my feminist girlfriend if we should desegregate sports all the time. She would always politely decline to answer. (She was not polite.)

I've seen nothing from Higgs that disqualifies the merits of his argument. Thanks.

Are you still in the hospital? Perhaps all the ####### stress about trivial things that you rant on and on about are contributing to your health concerns. Thus the - "take care of yourself"
  Coming from the Lefty ##### squad that has run up a 1,502 page thread crying about Trump.

Koya, go check out the Texas wrestler thread. I think it was started by Shiznittt. Henry Ford dropped a lot of knowledge in there. It's a very interesting and complex discussion for sure.

have her compete with a Handicap, like they do with the ponies ... she has to carry 20 extra pounds (two 5 lb. wristers, two 5 lb. anklets)

  Leave it to Koya to say in 5,000 words what could have been said in one sentence.

FYI - I am very pro-gay and pro-trans.  Always have been.  Been fighting for their rights since before it was fashionable.  But this is just dumb.

The CIAC defers to the determination of the student and his or her local school regarding gender identification. According the CIAC handbook, it is fundamentally unjust and contrary to applicable state and federal law to preclude a student from participation on a gender specific sports team that is consistent with the public gender identity of that student

That is a terrible rule. I believe the NCAA and other organizations have much better rules in place to address these situations. It can't just be about how the person identifies, there has to be more to it than that.

It never ceases to amaze me how many men get their panties in a bunch over transgender issues - which, of course, is their right.  Everyone should be entitled to get their panties in a bunch, not just the born-females...

Oh they haven't even gotten started yet.  It's going to get a lot worse.
If you are going to immediately make this a left/right thing you are doing yourself a disservice. Especially, since the right consists of science and fact deniers on a scale that dwarfs the left.

This just exposes girls' athletics for the huge sham and waste of time that it is. They're running around in circles when they could be learning how to cook and sew buttons on their husbands' work shirts.

Like the wrestling thread. I don't like that girls have to compete against essentially juiced competition. I hope all of the high school level powers that be are taking the opportunity this summer to adjust their rules.

Good reply when you have nothing else to say.

FWIW, a quick Google search tells me that 6 high school boys in 2014 posted times that would have beaten Florence Griffith-Joyner's women's world record. 6 kids..not just a one time fluke..and in high school.

Ok?

You should spend more time taking care of yourself and less time complaining about every right wing talking point
Is this more a meta dig at the OP, or do you see no issue with a teenage boy competing in a teenage girls sporting event?

Did you not read the story?  Everyone is celebrating the policy.  Look how virtuous I am!

It's easy for me to see both sides of this issue.  I honestly don't know what the right way to handle this is.  There is no good solution.

My younger daughter turns 11 this summer, and she is tiny for her age.  She will have to compete against 11-12 yos in her swim meets.  She has no chance of being competitive.  She would barely be competitive against the 9-10 yos.  But, she will go out every meet and do her best,  she will swim most events in the 2nd or 3rd heats,  and she will try to improve her personal best times all summer.

Beyond that, the benefits she gets out of "competing" are that she is in the pool swimming everyday.

Should we change the rules so that she gets to compete for ribbons with other swimmers with comparable times?  Because that would be more fair for my daughter - it would giver her a better chance to "win", and after all, she spends hours in the pool trying to improve....

Clearly you have no idea how science works and why girls shouldn't compete with boys. I doubt you figure it out in this thread.

Good day.
Clearly.

Its pretty simple right - we let girls compete against girls, because they can't beat the boys.  And the most important part of athletics is winning.

If you removed the genders and everyone competed together, I'd be willing to wager that within 2 years, 95% of girls would quit altogether.

"Officials from the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, which governs sanctioned high school sports in the state, said Wednesday that they did not believe Andraya is the first transgender athlete to participate in a sanctioned sport, but the organization does not keep records."

Without taking away from the individual in this case, I wouldn't oppose this governing body legislating their competition more closely, along with spelling out the rules more definitively.

But LMAO at "impacting my world". Wait until your first grader has her friend Madison change to Michael if you want to deal with some real world chit on this issue.

No matter how you feel about transgender issues, It should go without saying that this is completely absurd.  Letting transgendered dudes steamroll girls isn't doing either group any favors.

Have you tried doping.  I hear testosterone works wonders.

In your opinion, should boys that were born boys on the boys track team be allowed to compete if they are being pumped full of testosterone?

Ah yes.  It took a little while, but now the public shaming starts.

Count me amongst those that do have an issue with it. There is a very simple reason boys and girls dont compete against each other in most sports. Funny how the left doesnt care about science when it doesnt further their cause.
Actually studies say it's the right that likes science when it supports their politics.  The left likes science for what it is.  Probably because facts have a liberal bias, as they say.

No, oddly enough, my daughter is grounded enough that she enjoys improving her best times, and sees that as a worthwhile challenge.  She does not define herself by "winning" swim meets.

Aren't the age groups an attempt to level that playing field since a 12yr old is obviously going to be more developed than a 9 year old?  Is it a perfect system?  No, but it's the most fair IMO.  Its the same reason boys/girls are separated, IMO.  However, I think the comparison is not apples to apples.  Is your daughter choosing to be smaller than girls in her age group?

The person in the OP isn't really that fast; they're right in line with what's considered marginally fast for the HS girls (from what I remember); she would get smoked by the boys.  I wonder if she was faster if they'd compete in the boys class or decide to go annihilate the girls.

Then the left should look at the science here and realize this is moronic.
