Breaking Bad on AMC (1 Viewer)

Just saw the new trailer for the first time; Hank with dead eyes driving. "All Bad things must come to an end."

#### YES> GOING TO BE AWEOSME

Rewatching now. Season 1 is great on a 2nd watch because you can appreciate observing the transformation and the reasons for it. Things escalate a little fast with the Tuco stuff at the end of the season and into season 2 though.

Probably.

Although you bring up an interesting scenario: despite his troubles, hank hasn't been a very sympathetic character. "One minute" is the only point in the series where the audience was pulling for hank. The rest of the time he's been the braggadocius hot head. Nevermind that he's trying to uphold the law and make the world a better place, he isn't very likeable.

I've been saying for years that the arc between them is the one that has to be resolved more than any other, including Jesse.

I haven't seen Hank as unlikeable at all except when he was bedridden and a jerk to Marie.
I think Hank seems like a blowhard and kind of an ####### in the first half of season one. That starts to change a bit when he comes to bail out Walt Jr. By the time Hank is fighting off the brothers, it's clear that he's kind of the hidden hero of the show.

I'm absolutely still in Walt's corner, but as most women who have ever met me can tell you, I'm kind of an #######.

Rooting for TV characters is pretty weird.
Why?

Do you pull for athletes? I know they're real people but unless you know them personally, they're just a character as well. It's just identifying with a trait you hold important.
Sure, I root for the teams I like (although that is admittedly absurd in its own way).

TV characters are fictional creations. I may find some characters or shows more intriguing or interesting than others, but I'm not rooting for any of them to particularly do well or not. Win or lose, I hope the Breaking Bad season is compelling.

As for Skylar, she's an important character in terms of telling this particular story.

I dont root for actors in a show or movie ,but i will say sometimes im bummed if someone i like in a show or movie gets offed. Take million dollar baby for example,i was stunned then sad when she was paralyzed then died.Granted its not real but my emotions that were invested in the story were.

It's such a weird phenomenon. Even weirder is the hatred for certain characters. It's almost never the complete psychopaths. It's Skylar because she's a "#####." It's so odd.
So you're not supposed to feel any type of emotion from tv, music, or movies? I'm pretty sure characters, songs, scripts and the like are all designed to elicit emotion. I'm not allowed to feel the behavior of Skyler towards Walt the minute he returns home from his "amnesia" stay at the hospital is that of a woman I wouldn't want to spend a moment with, let alone an entire life? I mean, yea we are along for the ride that the creator writes and deems important, but I think to say it's weird that people have opinions on characters or stories is weird itself.

I'm rooting for Maggie from The Newsroom to get hit by a truck/bus/tank/meteor/bomb/cancer/Black Death/stroke/Cthulhu and until she does, I won't watch that show anymore. Does that count?

It is fine to point out that the creators have given Skylar faults. I would hope that they did But it just seems weird to me, that in a show about a guy who is a sociopath, a guy who clearly resents his family and views them as some sort of second-rate consolation prize to the great future he believed he was due, that it is Skylar's faults that people latch onto.

I mean, just listen to yourself. You're finding fault with Skyler's reaction to Walt's amnesia episode without even mentioning that Walt is lying about the episode to cover up illegal activities that put his family at risk. Walt poisons a kid, but Skylar is a nag and a killjoy. It's just weird what people latch onto.

I won't fault someone for hoping every character from The Newsroom gets hit by a bus. Everyone in The Newsroom is insufferable. Probably because Aaron Sorkin writes every character as some type of surrogate for himself and Aaron Sorkin is insufferable.

As a guy in the industry, I had high hopes for that show. Pretty bad when a throwaway recurring character (Lisa) is the most likable on that show.

Walt is a sociopath and has chosen criminal activity, and that's what makes the show interesting. The crux of his character though is somebody who feels he made some bad choices when he reflects on life and that he could have done better for himself and his family. He's had a life altering experience that made him say #### the world, I need to start looking out for me and rekindle my ambitions. For good and interesting TV, he turned to making meth and then became obsessed and regressed into a maniacal sociopath, but in real life a person could come to a realization of the same kind and reinvent themselves in a different and productive way. So I think people latch on to that aspect, the I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore or let anything or anybody stand in my way or simply it's time to make a change and do something I love or productive for me for once. Everybody understands a nagging wife, no matter the underlying facts.

I feel emotion regarding the show, but it doesn't hinge on whether any given character "wins" or "loses." Either way, I just hope it's compelling.
