Breaking Bad on AMC (2 Viewers)

I definitely wouldn't go that far, but after rewatching the series, it's pretty jarring to realize just how many characters are S5-only and how that season's storyline is so divorced from the rest of the franchise.  I agree with BF's take that Gus was really the climax though.
Agreed.

Season 5 really just had a different feel in general from the rest of the series. It was still great TV, but it was just...different.

Watching again, and currently on the season finale of S4. Remember when Walt needed to get back to his house and called his neighbor to check their stove because he knew there would be guys waiting for him?

I love that scene.  First, it's smart.  Second, it just fits so perfectly for Walt's character to casually risk an innocent woman's life just so he can get Saul's number.

What a ####

My take on Grey Matter is something vaguely like this (Walt ####ed it up and is bitter and resultful because of that), but I don't think Gilligan can credibly make that case after the last couple of episodes. The finale is way more pro-Walt and anti-Schwartes that that article allows for.
I don't see it that way at all....in the finale, they are wealthy and respected, and Walt is just a scumbag with some drug money...he makes some primitive boorish threats and they humor him a bit, but he's still the #######...

AMC is running a marathon. I was flipping around, not spending more than a couple of seconds on each channel--and as soon as I saw Skinny Pete, I put the remote down.

I have never watched before yesterday. My wife convinced me to give it a try.  Got through the first three episodes and wasn't impressed.  Everyone says it gets better......right now its like a bad comedy of errors and misunderstandings....like a Threes Company episode on meth.

When did it hook you guys?  SO many people telling me to hang it there, so I will, but wondering when its gonna click for me.

I can't remember exactly when it clicked for me but it was definitely in season 1.  Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time.  Hang in there.

No idea where it got me.

I'm super jealous this is your first time through.

It's wierd.

The show starts off fast and shouldn't need time to hook you but I would say S1-2 it's a good fast paced action show and around end of S2 into S3 it becomes a great drama show filled with action and great acting.

definitely starts slow. lots of character building to be done.

then, this could be one of those deals where there's been so much hype, so much talk, so much buildup that it won't ever live up to the expectations.

I think I did that to my brother, but he tried a third time and finally got hooked at end of S1 (I think).

I didn't watch BB while it was still on the air. I think I figured there's no way it could be that good and dismissed it as hype. I'm glad I got into it later, because it's my favorite series ever.

I could totally get not liking BB. Didnt have cable and was kinda irritated @ the show because a lot was shot in my neighborhood the early years and dodging the sets was a drag (except for blowing up the Beemer about 3 blocks from my house which we all got notice on and went to see....cool) but friends from Boston sent their Burquer friend DVDs after S2. The novelty of considering WW's descent into that world and the excellent portrayal of a slackerdood were enough to get me through some pretty sloppy stuff. The show's always been best when there's a good villain (Tuco, Fring, Mike - in his way - Lydia, Aryans) because both the leads compasses wandr badly without them. Eventually, if you end up down with em, you just enjoy seeing what the writers think of to put em thru. But this is a show that, while great, would be easy to be meh about.

If 1.6 when we meet Tuco doesn't hook you, this show may not be your cup of tea.

I was hooked from the very beginning of the first episode when Walt starts to confess in the camera. However, I nearly checked out at times during season 2 and 3. Glad I stayed with it for 4 and 5 which were awesome.

I just noticed that the kid talking about not being able to concentrate after the plane wreck was the same kid saying he couldn't concentrate in an earlier season when he was trying to get Walt to change his 58 to a 60

Opening scene of the premier.

What you're describing sounds more like The Wire. That took about five or six episodes before I really got into it (although on the second and third viewings, it was awesome right from the beginning).

I got hooked a bit when Walt figured out Crazy 8 was going to stab him and for real when the bath tub fell through the floor. That was the moment where I realized it was going to be deeper than your average crime show.
