Breaking Bad on AMC (5 Viewers)

Thinking about the greatness of Breaking Bad has me more convinced that network TV is kind of dead in the water. Modern network television has been eclipsed by cable - and I don't see this changing.
Id say network TV drama is dead, at least until they get rid of the restrictions on content, even then it may not be enough because networks want blandness that appeals to a broader audience. For example Blue Bloods, is there a more safe, vanilla show out there?

Comedies still have life on networks though, even though they too tend to focus on the lowest common denominator type of humor.

The Walking Dead had 13 million views this Sunday with a 6.8 in the key demographic, which beats the snot out of most of the network shows.

With stuff like these limited run (13 ep) series' the networks are rolling out, the tide is changing

That first season of Hannibal was about as good as I can imagine it being. If you didn't catch it, I encourage you to give it a shot.

Agree with all of this. Furthermore, set aside Showtime and HBO, and just look at the risks AMC was willing to take with Breaking Bad and Mad Men. So networks can't even rely on the "we don't get to cuss and show naked chicks" excuse.

You're right about comedies. Network TV still has some success there with shows like Parks and Rec.

keep in mind i am still waiting to see the last 8 episodes.

very good show, but I have to say I am a tad disappointed in walt's arc. it is probably all about expectations, but I was waiting for a breakdown of epic proportions. the episode titled "crawlspace" was nuts and that is when I thought the crap was really going to hit the fan, but he still went back to just showing flashes of Heisenberg.

don't get me wrong- still great acting on display and some of the best episodes of a tv show I have seen in a while. loved the crawlspace episode, train heist, and any time the old guy with the bell showed up, and many others. just started the series about a month ago, and the way people were talking, I guess I was expecting more WTF??? moments.

Yeah, finish the show first. And you should stay away from forums unless you want a rare television experience ruined.

Fun question: what songs were featured in this show that you will never be able to hear again without thinking of Breaking Bad? The obvious ones for me are:

Baby Blue

Crystal Blue Persuasion

Windy

Major Tom for me too.
I didn't think about that one, probably because the actual song wasn't used. But it is hard to forget Gale's rendition of it.

"El Paso" - Marty Robbins.
D'oh! Can't believe I forgot that one. Another good one is Tamacun by Rodrigo y Gabriela, which was the song in the pilot that played when Walt spotted Jesse falling off the roof of that house and taking off in his car during his ride-along with Hank and Gomez.

Good one.

Breaking Bad co-star RJ Mitte opens up about being bullied

“At the end of the day, people will watch someone get beaten,” says RJ Mitte — who played Walter White’s son on the acclaimed AMC series Breaking Bad.

“They’ll watch. They’ll let someone get beaten to death. They won’t do anything.”

Mitte isn’t talking about television drama. He’s referring to real life. And if he sounds cynical, perhaps he has good reason.

Like his character Walter “Flynn” White Jr., the 21-year-old actor was born with cerebral palsy — a condition that made him a target for bullies as a child.

When Mitte comes to Windsor on Nov. 13 as the keynote speaker for Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, he’ll be sharing some of his personal experiences with the issue.

They weren’t pleasant, to say the least.

“I went through the wringer,” Mitte recalls. “I had my hand broken. I got choked out … (A bully) grabbed the back of my hoodie and pulled and threw me on the ground. That’s just some of it.”

Such abuse by other kids happened throughout Mitte’s childhood years. The hand-breaking incident took place when he was about 12.

“This goes on day after day. This is always happening. Kids are killing themselves over this,” Mitte says darkly.

Even darker are Mitte’s thoughts on those who witness bullying and do nothing. To him, the unthinking cruelty of some children may be terrible, but so is the inaction of others.

“While this was going on (with me), people saw. People were witnesses. They didn’t care,” he says. “For the most part, people just watch.”

Fortunately, Mitte had some champions. He says his mother in particular was “a force to be reckoned with,” and there were others who stood with him and were making a difference in his life.

That’s why Mitte believes the ultimate solution to bullying is to stand up — Advice not only for the victims of bullying, but all those around them.

“At the end of the day, you can’t do it alone,” Mitte says. “Having those good people around me was very important.”

“That’s the thing. Get involved. Stand up for what you believe in. Stand up for what you know is right. Because — wouldn’t you want someone to stand up for you?”

These days, Mitte’s too busy to think much about his tormenters. Although he’s pretty sure they’re living lives “that are nothing compared to the life that I’m living.”

He got into acting — just for fun, at first — around 2006, after his family moved to Los Angeles from Louisiana.

Breaking Bad gave him his biggest role to date, and also his first dramatic one. Five gripping seasons later, Mitte says he’s honoured to have been involved in a show that has made such an impact. “I loved the finale. I think every amazing story has to have an amazing ending — and we had our amazing ending. I feel very lucky.”

His next role is with the ABC drama Switched at Birth. Mitte says the character is on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to Flynn — Campbell is a “very confident” pre-med student who has to make some interesting romantic decisions. “I wouldn’t call him a jerk. But he’s a little cocky,” Mitte offers.

Meanwhile, Mitte has been traveling the world for appearances and speaking engagements, raising awareness on cerebral palsy, bullying, and other topics near to his heart.

“I talk about diversity in the arts and media, turning a disability into an ability,” he explains. “We’re all disabled in one way or another. Everyone has their own challenges.”

But Mitte knows that the bullying he endured as a child had an effect on him — one that he will likely carry for the rest of his life.

“Everything I had to go through … created who I am today. It’s all about living your life, trying to do what’s right for you and what’s right by other people.”

"Molecules change their bonds. Elements...they change to combine into compounds. It's solution, dissolution, just over and over. It is growth, then decay, then transformation. It is...fascinating, really."

The thesis for the whole series.

Watching the first episode. Amazing how there is absolutely no sign of Heisenburg at any point.

God, I love this show.
He was there in Jessie's driveway.

I am awake.
Heisenburg woke up for the first time, but he wasn't all there until his visit with Tuco.
I've used that mercury trick with much success.
Got me out of a couple fights with a bully in high school.

I've created a Breaking Bad playlist for all of my mobile devices. Here's what I have so far:

Crystal Blue Persuasion

Windy

Baby Blue

El Paso

Black

Negro y Azul " the ballad of Heisenberg

Breaking Bad theme song

Bonfire

A Horse With No Name

Shimmy Shimmy Ya

That's it so far but I'm looking to add more. When I watch through the show again I'll probably keep a closer awareness towards the music.

I love that scene, too. Mike is awesome in it, and I love when Gomez says, "One of your guys is gonna roll on you, and then we'll definitely remember the handcuffs."

Wasted potential. Should have been shot single camera like "Malcolm." And, I only watched the first 2 seasons of "Malcom" but can't recall the dad being that over-the-top whiney.

YouTube keeps nuking all of my BB uploads due to copyright infringement. Hopefully it will stay up at Vimeo for awhile.

Of all the phenomenal scenes in this show, this one is my favorite. Mike is my hero.

"Forget your handcuffs?"
"Here's the thing Mike, Michael?"...

"Mr. Ehrmantraut"

"Here's the thing Mike"

That little exchange really defines both of them, great video RN

Saw it this morning on one of the talk shows. Pretty good spoof of the Bob Newhart "dream ending".
