What probably happened here, IMO: the woman wigged out, over-reacted, and probably said a few things to the police last night that she shouldn't have said.

TO's side doesnt sound realistic? Its the suicide attempt side that doesnt add up. The guy supposedly takes 40 vic's 12 hours ago and now he's on the field catching passes?

You take a few pain killers and are goofy - thats not just plausible, its likely.

You take a bottle of them at once- you arent goofy, you are nonresponsive and go into shock. Anybody consider that they rush the guy to the ER and he's still coherant enough to be interviewed by police? THAT is what makes no sense here. We're talking about easily 17000 miligrams of vicodin here, thats plenty enough to stop your breathing if not your heart. The guy was talking at the hospital, so TO obviously was breathing on his own, and he didnt have a tube washing out his stomach down his throat. He wouldnt be playing football right now, he'd be wondering if his liver was going to shut down.

His publicist flatly denied telling police that TO was depressed, which is part of police record. In the high point of the press conference, she added that TO had 25 million reasons not to be depressed. Perfectly classy way of wrapping this up...

This is almost as irresponsible as...well...most of this thread. Not to be overly blunt, but how many "reasons not to be depressed" did someone like Kurt Cobain have. Depression doesn't know the size of your bank account.

I've been listening to ESPN radio at work all day to get TO updates... as of 4:00 some guy has come on, and his level of fake outrage is just pathetic. I don't know who he is, but this is such little league quality broadcasting that I wouldn't expect it on some small-town station, let alone ESPN. Do people really go for this bluster? He doesn't even sound like he's convincing himself.

Heck no.I'm not exactly a drug user, but I have been drunk enough to see how something like that could happen. One time when asked repeatedly by an officer for my birthdate I answered "one-fourteen", repeatedly. (So, I am told, and very vaguely remember.)

Yeah, I remember a friend of mine in college who was found wandering around campus by Campus Police, wasted. They didn't want to arrest him, just take him home, so they asked him his name repeatedly. All he could ever respond was "One welcome".

Especially as a PR rep it might have occurred to her to see if his symptoms more closely meshed with a guy looped up on pain killers or a guy about to go into a coma from a sever overdose. Ok, its one thing to err on the side of caution, but to suggest to the cops (not the doctors mind you) that he was depressed... what kind of PR rep does THAT? Kinda suggests she might not be the sharpest bulb in the shed.

We get calls from the dispatch center all the time that don't match up to what is actually going on at the scene. The call screeners are, I believe, basically taught to look for worst-case-scenarios when they're taking the call. They listen for certain buzzwords, and will categorize calls appropriately, or sometimes inappropriately. They may have heard "Pain killers" and "unresponsive" and "empty bottle". Bingo...you have a call going out to a firehouse:Medic 3, Engine 24...Box 789, Overdose, Possible Attempted Suicide, 32 y.o. Male, 123 Commerce St., Code 3 Response, DPD also Responding.

When Ben Roethlisberger was in the motorcycle accident I remember the doctors and surgeons were speaking to the media, why won't they speak in this case unless there are still alot of unanswered questions about what happened.
