Brent Celek in 2009 (1 Viewer)

He's looked pretty good during week 17 and the playoffs. Many mock drafts have them drafting an early round TE. Thoughts??

As i'm typing this he just scored a 30 yard TD.

His output certainly has surged in the last few weeks. I think they'll pencil him in as a starter and bring in a mid level FA to back him up and fill in if he regresses.

I'm more worried about RB. Westbrook was very quiet in the playoffs (bar one play) and his injuries are starting to sound like the chronic kind. I'm hoping they draft a RB early and take the load off him, keep him going a couple more years in an explosive / playmaker kind of role.

I've got the feeling the last couple of weeks his injury situation is a lot worse we think.

have never really looked at his blocking, but he's solid as a receiver.
When I watched him in training camp this year, he was terrible in blocking drills. Pathetic, really. He couldn't slow up a DB and got dropped on his ### by LB's and D-linemen. As the year went on, he improved substantially, which is why Reid felt comfortable playing him over LJ. I'm pretty certain he'll be the #1 TE on this team next year and I think they'll draft OL help and maybe a RB in the early rounds.

RB and OL are bigger priorities, but they do need another guy to complement Celek. Smith and Schobel had dreadful years, and hopefully both will be gone.

One thing's for sure - they won't be franchising LJ Smith again!

A Dynasty Owner Who Kept LJ and Dropped Shiancoe

Unless you think he's one of the top 10-12 TEs now, or you're in a league deep enough to roster backup TEs, his playoff performance isn't enough to get him drafted. I don't think he's notably better than Zach Miller, Fasano and other random guys going into this year. But he may be drafted ahead of Shockey (haha).

Im liking his prospects a lot for 09. I havent seen anything from him as a reciever to think he cant be a startable TE in fantasy leagues with LJ gone

Meh. He's another Kevin Boss. He had a great game, but it also helps that Arizona hadn't exactly built their defensive game plan around stopping Celek. He's probably a good backup TE for fantasy purposes, but if you're stuck starting this guy my condolences. His NFL value is greater than his fantasy value.

Arizona isn't the only team that has had a hard time stopping Celek. I would agree that you can't solely rely on him in 2009, but his fantasy value has alot of upside and he's someone to watch/stash

I think he could outperform all three of those guys. I see plenty of reasons that he'll be huge value on draft day:1. His offense values the TE, especially in the red zone.2. The offense moves the ball through the air A LOT, but the WRs around him are not spectacular3. When given an opportunity, he's performed at a mid TE1 level4. The only other pass catching TE on the roster currently won't be on the roster next year5. He's young, and if his blocking continues to improve, so will his playing timeI'd be happy with him and whatever TE falls to me in a late round (Heath Miller, perhaps) if I miss out on Witten or Gonzo.
