It's tough for Packer fans, not because he doesn't play for the Packers, but because he plays for the Vikings. I know that's stating the obvious, but he pretty much spent two years trying to maneuver to go play for their biggest rivals. Sports fandom isn't logical. Passion, emotion, etc. come into play. It would be like Michael Jordan retiring and then going to play for the Pistons back in the day. There really is no comparion because no player of his stature has ever done this. I think he is more driven by a desire for vengence than a desire to win. Favre has folded more times in big games than he has succeeded but he is playing more focused than he ever has in his career. It's like watching your worst enemy marry your ex-wife and raise your kids.
As a Packers fan myself, I have no problems with Brett on the Vikings. In fact, I hope the Vikings win the Super Bowl because I have much disdain for Thompson. Call me a Favre fan if you want but Thompson did nothing to help the team when Favre was here to win. Ron Wolf admitted he did not do enough to get Favre weapons and help the offense while he was here. Favre has always done the best with what he was given and he did pretty darn well with "minimal" talent. I also know that Thompson will never admit he tried to help the team win when they still had a good veteran team. Big difference between the two GM's in Green Bay so if I get labeled a "Favre" fan, then label me a Ron Wolf fan as well. Go Vikings.
I label you a Favre fan. Pretty clear you're not a Packers fan.
What Packer fans says "Go Vikings"? So your not a Thompson fan, who you claim did nothing to help the Packers win while Favre was here, but your a Ron Wolf fan who admitted to not giving Favre enough weapons? How does that make sense. The Packers were in the NFC championship game 2 years ago and Favre (along with Al Harris) were the reason they lost that game. That 2007 NFC Championship team was completley built by Thompson. Twelve of 22 starters, 32 of 45 gameday actives, and 40 of 53 players on the roster were acquired by Thompson via the draft, free agency, trades or the waiver wire in his first three years. That seems like he did something. The guy has won GM of the year once already, and could win it again this year. While 4th and 26 wasn't on Favre, the horrible interception he threw after that play was. The six int's in the playoff game against St. Louis were on Favre. The 4 int's game vs. the Vikings in 2005 were on Favre. Some of these games weren't with Thompson in the GM spot, but the Packers could have had pro-bowlers at every position and couldn't have won with Favre throwing 6 int's. How are the 29 ints Favre threw in Thompson's first year as GM Thompson's fault. I'm sure the team would have had a better record if Favre didn't average nearly 2 int's a game.
I don't get the Thompson hate out of some people. Nearly every one in football admits the Packer's are set up with young talent for a long time, yet people continue to not like him because Favre retired 3 times and sat on his decision. I found it funny that right after the Cardinals loss on Sunday, Warner said he wants to make a quick decision because he would never want to put the team in that situation of not knowing. He understands it's a business and they have a right to know what he is going to do as soon as possble. Root for Favre, the Vikings, Childress as much as you want. Buy a Favre jersey for every team he played for but stop with the I don't like Thompson stuff. It's pretty clear he made the right decision. If Favre would have stayed Rodgers wouldn't have. Those are the decisions you need to make.
