ETA found this tidbit....

Aaron Hernandez: Florida TE Hernandez to declare for draft

Aaron Hernandez - TE - CLG - Jan. 5 - 6:33 pm et

Florida TE Aaron Hernandez has reportedly informed the school that he intends to forego his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Tim Tebow's go-to target finished with 68 catches for 850 yards and five touchdowns, highlighted by a 9-catch, 111-yard performance against Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl. Though Hernandez is raw as a blocker, it's wise to turn pro with his stock soaring. He could go early in the second round. Jan. 5 - 6:33 pm et

Holmgren to interview Philadelphia Eagles GM Tom Heckert today.

Reid has final say in Philly, so I'd guess, if offered, he be given final say here.

So, Holmgren isn't coaching.

He isn't the GM.

Would someone explain to me what exactly he does for the boatload of dinero he's making? This is the same guy who was relieved of

personnel duties in Seattle, correct?

His hire to me just reinforces the notion the Browns ownership is clueless.

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports the Cleveland Browns have offered WR Josh Cribbs an "insulting" $1.4 million a year. Cribbs' agent, Peter Schaffer, said, ."They need to treat him fairly or he'll never play for the Browns again. He will demand a trade and he will walk out of there and they won't see him for the offseason -- they won't see him ever again."

Agent: Browns' Cribbs set to holdout unless he gets new deal

There is new team leadership in Cleveland but the same old contract problems remain with star kick returner Joshua Cribbs.

Cribbs agent J.R. Rickert told FOXSports.com on Wednesday that a holdout and trade demands are coming if the Browns don’t change their negotiating tune. Rickert said new Browns president Mike Holmgren has offered Cribbs a take-it-or-leave-it multiyear contract extension that averaged $1.4 million a season with the potential of reaching $2 million through incentives.

That was unacceptable to a player who set the NFL’s all-time career scoring record on kickoff returns during the 2009 season. The deal would average less than what the NFL’s nine other highest-paid kickoff returners are earning even with incentives, Rickert said.

“It’s time for the organization to step up and do the right thing for this kid,” Rickert said. “If the situation isn’t properly addressed, Joshua Cribbs will not set foot in that facility come March (for offseason workouts) and will demand a trade on the first day of the league year.”

Signed by the Browns as a college free agent in 2005, Cribbs had inked a six-year, $6.77 million deal after a standout rookie season. Rickert, who wasn’t representing Cribbs when that pact was signed, has unsuccessfully negotiated with two previous management regimes for a new contract. The Cribbs camp also contends Cleveland’s front office had previously agreed to reward him for outplaying his current contract.

The Browns declined to respond to Rickert’s comments, but Holmgren did address the issue during a Tuesday news conference announcing his official hiring.

“I believe players should be rewarded for what they do,” Holmgren said. “What happens, though, on occasion is our view and the agent’s view of how much that should be differs. We will continue to make an effort to handle Josh’s situation.

“I want Josh here. Now, he has three years left on his existing contract so it’s a little unprecedented to start doing things this early in a contract like that. Having said that, a player should get what he deserves and (Cribbs) has been a fine player. It’s just that business part of it that we’re going through now. We’re trying. I hope how we do that is good enough.”

Cribbs was named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Month for a December in which he became the second player in NFL history to log two 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns in the same game (against Kansas City). Cribbs now has a league-record eight touchdowns on kickoff returns for his career.

Cribbs, 26, led the NFL in kickoff return average this season at 27.5 yards and finished fourth on punt returns at 11.9 yards with another score. Cribbs also contributed to Cleveland’s offense as a wide receiver and wildcat quarterback.

While I agree Cribbs should get a fair new contract, I'll stand by what I've always said that the Browns should not bend over to his agent. Still, this offer, if true, is barely a raise if I'm reading all this correctly. Something is fishy here I think, especially the "take it or leave it" part. Would Holmgren really be doing something like this so soon?

I'm not buying the "take it or leave it" comment. Holmgren is not that stupid. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems like Holmgren is saying that negotiations are still open.

Holmgren Era, Day 3: Eric Mangini is still on the job and another GM candidate is coming

By Tony Grossi

January 07, 2010, 12:19PM

BEREA, Ohio -- Eric Mangini beat Mike Holmgren to the office this morning.

The Browns coach, whose status is being evaluated by Holmgren, reported to work at about 7 a.m. Holmgren rolled in about two hours later.

The two men had a two-hour sitdown on Wednesday. It is believed that they will meet again today.

A Browns spokesman told The Plain Dealer there is no announcement on Mangini's status planned "at the present time."

Meantime, Browns spokesmen have declined to say whether owner Randy Lerner has been in the team's headquarters this week. Lerner did not attend Holmgren's introductory news conference on Tuesday because of weather-related problems, according to Holmgren.

Lerner did not attend the Browns' last three wins and it's not clear whether Lerner has spoken face-to-face with Mangini since the season ended.

• As expected, Holmgren will interview Will Lewis, Seahawks director of pro personnel, for the GM position.

The Plain Dealer reported that Lewis would be a prime candidate as soon as Holmgren accepted the job as team president.

Lewis, a former NFL cornerback, broke in as a scout under Holmgren with the Green Bay Packers. After Lewis' contract in Green Bay ran out, he rejoined Holmgren in Seattle in 1999 in the pro personnel department.

Lewis' interview fulfills the Browns' obligation to comply with the Rooney Rule as it pertains to the GM position.

It is known that Holmgren values Lewis in the personnel department and it is possible that Holmgren will seek to hire both Lewis and Tom Heckert Jr., who interviewed for the GM job on Wednesday.

Heckert was also supposed to interview for the Seattle GM position, but a source told The Plain Dealer that Heckert canceled that interview following his visit to Cleveland.

No team has co-general managers. It's possible Heckert or Lewis -- more likely Lewis because of his experience -- could fill the role of player personnel director in Holmgren's plans.

But the Seahawks would be under no obligation to release Lewis from his contract for a lateral move. The fact the Seahawks are contemplating an organization overhaul, however, could free up Lewis.

• Keith Gilbertson, who coached wide receivers under Holmgren in Seattle, is expected to be added to the Browns organization in an unspecified capacity, a source said.

Gilbertson, 61, was a long-time college coach in the Pacific Northwest and had two tours of duty with the Seahawks. The source said that Gilbertson might wind up in the Browns' personnel department.

• Browns receivers coach George McDonald has left the team to coach receivers at Rutgers University.

Glad there won't be an entire coaching turnover again. Prepping for the draft is so much better than finding another coach right now.

Yep, sounds like Mangini gets to stick around.
