Buffalo Safety-Damar Hamlin is awake and **Bills at Bengals** Game has been Canceled (2 Viewers)

They really need to just play a movie or something with something scrolling at the bottom about what happened.
This is just awkward and unnecessary

I know players and coaches understand the risks of football but I wonder if seeing this on the field as it happened leads any players to rethink playing.i know that's small talk but I've just never seen players react like that. I'm sure this will lead to some very significant safety policy changes.

Still can’t believe the NFL wanted to give them a five minute warmup and get back out there.
All I can say is that this is a crazy and unprecedented situation where nobody should know what to do. Suggesting a five minute break is awful in hindsight, but I’m inclined to give the NFL a pass should they carry on sensibly from here.
Nah. If somebody needs cpr and an aed on the field you send everybody to the locker room. That’s just very basic common sense. Nfl just wanted the show to go on, they deserve no mercy here. Goodell makes like 40M a year to make these decisions.

Yeah if he needed to be rushed to a hospital they wouldn’t be waiting for his mom, right?
My wife was just saying this to me
Zero medical background, but my understanding is that when you’re in an ambulance they can do anything they would need to do in a hospital
Not really. They can do a lot, however, they don't have access to lab results, a doctor............
They do basic life savings techniques until they get somewhere that can actually address the problem itself.

Yeah, my son is a paramedic and works out of an ambulance 80+ hours a week and there is no way an ambulance is just as good as a hospital. You want to get a patient this critical as quickly to the hospital as possible.

I’m sorry but you are being kind of an *** here. This is a situation the NFL has not dealt with before. Have some grace.

Forfeit, or call it a non-contest. Whatever you do, don't make those players on EITHER team play against each other, in that stadium, in the next several says. Deeper stuff than the almighty NFL dollar. Or my betting or fantasy dollars, for that matter.

I know we all cal the NFL out for their greed and insensitivity but, to be fair, this is unprecedented. They likely didn't know what to do in the moment.
A five minute warmup wasn’t it
I'm not arguing with you, just saying I can understand people making a bad calling such a situation. But, heck, I'm still wondering how the NFL played a season during a global pandemic with zero game cancellations.

Aikman with the really good point that they were literally trying to save the Bills’ teammate right as they watched on.

These guys may need some serious grief counseling. The NFL is a ****ing monster if they have these guys play within the next 48 hours let alone tonight.
The nfl knew he needed cpr and an aed and still suggested a 5 minute warmup! It’s wild how evil they a m
I yield to no one in my cynicism toward the NFL, but this is a totally unprecedented situation, and I think everyone is figuring this stuff out in the fly. Seems like what happened is they initially said 5m, and then the coaches got together and both agreed there was no way anyone was ready to play

Christian Eriksen collapsed and had to undergo CPR on the field. Play resumed after he was removed from the stadium. This isn't just an NFL thing.

Terrible terrible situation. Because it’s such an “important” game you’d have to think they do try to play it at some point, but if they arent going to play tomorrow, when could they? They aren’t going to postpone the playoffs. If the game was less important I think they would just call it a tie or something. And yes I realize this all pales in comparison to the health of the player.

I’m hoping that came from guys reacting out of shock/panic.

Paramedics are trained across a broad spectrum, but have limited resources. He needs specialized care that only a hospital can provide.

This is correct. What can they do for him in the hospital they can't do right there?
One very important thing: Have him surrounded by multiple specialists, the best, with decades of combined experience.

True. Paramedics can do everything in the field. Protocols are different everywhere but have been leaning to staying on scene as long as possible and not delay care- provided the proper care is available. Paramedics are basically field docs. Basic EMTs are not and do not administer meds the paramedics can.

Within reason - no one’s doing heart surgery in an ambulance.

But once his heart is beating & he’s intubated, he’s probably he considered “stable”.

Hours, days, weeks...or just cancel the season.

Again, let the people involved make the decision that's right for them.

I’m not willing to be fair at all. As awful and horrendous as this is, it 100% should have been a situation that was planned for.

If there wasn’t a plan, then it’s gross incompetence and negligence and worthy of contempt. Especially if their first reaction is to get the game going again rather than consulting with the organizations to make a decision together.

If it was planned for and that was their plan, then Goodell and a large number of people should be fired.

Journalists over the next several days should be demanding to know which it was.

Imagine somebody you work with or love practically dying right in front of you and your boss going ok you got 5 minutes get back to it.

This is insane. You all don’t have to defend the shield like this. The nfl doesn’t care about you either.

Not at all no, and it's really starting to bother me how several people here are talking medical when you clearly have not even the faintest of an idea what you are talking about.
