Build a FRANCHISE draft (1 Viewer)

I don't think the Pats offense is the reason they haven't been winning. Their defense has been terrible. I think I'm giving Brady one of the best defenses "in the league" here.

It's impossible to build a team as good as the elite teams in the "real NFL" in this exercise. There is going to be a ton of parity in "our league". I don't think a balanced team is the best way to "win" this league. Would I have liked to have given Brady a better line and better weapons, of course, but then I build an average to below average defense.

Still have only roughly built a quarter of the team, plenty of rounds left. This is why this is so much fun.
Their Defense was top 10 in 2012.
:goodposting: They were actually 2nd in defensive YPG, 9th in PPG. 7 of their starters have already been drafted.
 Only 7 teams gave up more yards than the Pats. I see them as ranked 25th in yards.

2 years ago they were ranked 31st.

3 years ago they were ranked 25th.

Oops your right on the yards. But that will happen when you have a good offense and teams pass a lot to keep up. They were 9th in points in 9th in rush YPG.

Yards against is a completely overrated tool in evaluating a D. Points against is really what matters.

8.Steelers HellToupe

9.49ers Gandalas

Ok, sorry for the wait, but FBG was not loading up for me.

With the 12.9 pick, the 49ers select RG Brandon Moore.

Great guard play from the veteran. Will help my younger guys mature quickly.

RG: Brandon Moore

RT: Dave Stewart

DE: Jared Allen

CB: Tim Jennings

CB: Desmond Trufant

SS: Tyvon Branch

12.11 Dallas selects Zach Ertz TE

Ideal skillset for the spread offense from a TE.

QB Josh Freeman 2.22

WR Calvin Johnson Jr. 1.11

WR Mike Wallace 5.22

WR Tavon Austin 9.22

TE Zach Ertz 12.11

LT Luke Joeckel 3.22

12.12 Cincinnati Bengals select Zane Beadles, G

Beadles made the pro-bowl in 2012 playing in a zone-blocking system and that is exactly the system I plan to run. I'm not sure if it'll be him or Levitre that will move to RG but I'm sure either will do fine.

1.12 QB Matt Ryan

6.12 RB Arian Foster

3.21 WR Michael Crabtree

11.21 TE Greg Olsen

2.21 LT Ryan Clady

8.12 LG Andy Levitre

12.12 RG Zane Beadles

Defense

4.12 DL Corey Liuget

5.21 DL Carlos Dunlap

7.21 DE/OLB Dion Jordan

9.21 DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo

10.12 CB Vontae Davis

12.13 Pats select Corey Webster

with cbs flying off the board last round, I thought it was important to get a second cb with starter ability.

14.Raiders Nucker101

15.Cardinals Whicker

16.Skins NateBlough

17.Packers Shakezula

18.Lions Fubar

12.15 Oakland Raiders Select Da'Quan Bowers, DE

This one might be a reach, but I really like his talent and I need a good young pass rusher. I suspect that TB management feels the same way since they let Michael Bennett walk so Bowers should get a lot more action this year and I expect him to shine with his talent level. This is a pretty risky pick though and Bowers could end up being a pretty mediocre pass rusher but I need to take some risks with my defense with the cream of the crop already gone.

QB - Peyton Manning

RB - Doug Martin

WR - Julio Jones

WR - Denarius Moore

OT - Jordan Gross

OG - Chris Snee

OT - Donald Penn

DE - Julius Peppers

DE - Da'Quan Bowers

OLB - Ahmad Brooks

CB - Prince Amukamara

CB - Aqib Talib

12.15 Cardinals select Thomas DeCoud, FS

I need a good safety to play centerfield and take advantage of the mistakes my front seven will cause. DeCoud was a consistent player for his first couple of seasons before showing good improvement in 2012, so I believe he'll be a good to great player for years.

Offense:

6.15 Jason Peters

7.18 Rodger Saffold

9.18 Brian De La Puente

10.15 Cecil Shorts

11.18 Keenan Allen

Defense:

1.15 Geno Atkins

2.18 Muhammad Wilkerson

3.18 Daryl Washington

4.15 Ryan Kerrigan

5.18 Brandon Carr

8.15 Star Lotulelei

12.15 Thomas DeCoud

Great?
I can't argue it. PFF has him 4th overall.
He's been very solid through the years (never what I'd call great), and is certainly in decline. I know some people care greatly about PFF - but many times their rankings seem silly. I've watched him play every week for many years - he's not (and never really was) the 4th best OG in football. If he was he certainly wouldn't still be on the market drawing very little interest. This isn't baseball where you can statistically quantify every position, and especially o-linemen.

No doubt you are right, but he's the 20th (or so) guard off the board so that seems about right given his age. On the other hand the Jets offense sucks so getting any player from that team isn't exactly a steal ;)

Or perhaps you're wrong, you can quantify many of these things, and conventional wisdom (like ALWAYS) simply lags far behind.

Also #### you for taking Miles Austin. Thought he'd slipped through.

The OLine wasn't the problem. (So says the drafter of Austin Howard)

He's not on the Jets anymore and they were good for many years he was there. I didn't say he sucked or even that it was a bad pick (it wasn't), just questioned the use of the word "great" (he's not, especially now).

There's just too many non-measurable factors in football. Coaching, schemes, game situations, quality of competition and so on...I highly doubt that anyone here is using PFF strictly as their drafting guide.

I hope not. Stats, as always, are good for additional, supplementing what else you have.

If someone was using PFF alone then Evan Mathis would have gone in round 1 and Reggie Wayne would have been taken much earlier than round 12.

Well of course they'd still factor in age, position and maybe even name recognition.

San Diego Chargers -

12.21 - Rahim Moore , Safety

despite one inexcusable play (Jacoby Jones 70 yard TD )Moore was one of the best safeties in the league .... at only 23 years of age.

Can't believe he was still available ....goes to show the short memory and long lasting stigma of the Texans play.

Non-elite safeties have a low impact relative to other positions. After the top ones were gone, I'm not surprised about the lack of safeties being taken.
