Build a FRANCHISE draft (1 Viewer)

Bass -I'm all for commentary, but not the kind that may lead to changing peoples drafts. Please avoid questions like "has x been drafted yet"
I'm confused. I asked if an o-lineman had been drafted. That's only slightly more specific than has a NFL player been drafted.

2.04 Houston Selects Matt Kalil LT23 years old and already pro-bowl caliber, at one of the most critical potions for a franchise. Anchor of my line for years to come, no brainer here.
No joke. Should have gone in the top 20 picks.

Hope I'm not screwing up the draft with this statement, but do you guys realize that there will be a new crop of QBs over the next couple of years that will be NFL eligible? I'm not spotlighting any rookies in particular with that statement.

This statement will be an exaggeration to avoid spolighting, but if I'm an NFL GM, I'm selecting a pro-bowler caliber OL, DL, or CB over Kevin Kolb (circa 2011), realizing Wilson, CKap, Tannyhill, etc will be available next year.

And if you don't have a good QB this year you're likely to be in a position to draft one high...

Unless you have a bunch of studs everywhere else and promote your second string QB to the starting position ala Wilson or Kapernick.

Normally when we do these drafts there is not a timer on the weekends.
Yes. I think we are doing ok. Starting Monday we implement a timer. Just please continue to PM and send lists if needed!

2.8 Kansas City Chiefs select Calais Campbell

I originally wanted to select two of Sherman, Revis, Peterson, and Haden in that order. However, the run on corners killed that strategy. I narrowed this pick down to either an elite LT or an elite DL. I went with DL ultimately because I like the left tackle depth more than the DL depth. I think there will still be franchise left tackles in the third and fourth rounds.

I chose Calais Campbell specifically because I feel he has the best combination of youth (26), proven production (multiple years of being an elite DL), and scheme versatility.

Dolphins select at 2.9 Russell Okung offensive tackle.

Had some options here, but figured I should shore up the tackle spot. Whoever my qb is needs to be well protected :-)

Can someone pm the next guy? Im on my phone with limited access

2.10 Atlanta Falcons Ndamukong Suh DT

Suh has his detractors but I love the edge that he brings & the the ability to disrupt from the interior. He'll pair nicely with JPP.

Ideally I wanted a tough choice between Matt Kalil or Patrick Peterson here

Considered pairing him with Ngata. Most potential/natural ability of any defender in the league imo.

Good pick; I was hoping he would make it back to Dallas; scary D line you are building in ATL.

I was really hoping Suh would fall to me. But since he didn't...

2.11 Cleveland Browns select Demaryius Thomas, WR

I know I already have A.J. Green, but I feel that having these two young elite players on the outside gives my team an advantage. No team will be able to field a defense that can cover them both consistently.

I feel like there are still plenty of great players out there at every position (except maybe QB) so I went with a player that makes my team more exciting.

He wasn't making it past the lions

I am interested in seeing who the lucky QB is that gets to throw to these two.

Yeah, well that's the rub isn't it? :) On the bright side I don't need a QB who "makes guys around him better", just one who can make the throws. I still have quite a few guys on my board who fit that bill.

2.12 S.D. Chargers select - DT Gerald McCoy

McCoy is young and explosive and seems to have over come the injury bug to show he is a top 5 interior lineman and still getting better.

McCoy and Aldon Smith will provide a dynamic young front of the defense that should terrorize the QBs of the league.

Lots of good options off the board in the last few picks. Time to start the defensive line:

2.14 DT/DE Justin Smith

Several other considerations at other positions here but the defensive line candidates are drying up. Can stop the run and has the ability to penetrate from the middle.

Last minute change... had it all typed out to go a different way but I couldn't pass on the chance to set my defense for a long time with two of the best players at their position who happen to be young.

Von Miller will already scare QBs, now they get to try to get to their WR with...

2.15 Lions take Earl Thomas, S on the prowl

2.17 Adrian Peterson

Imagine Peterson paired with a top flight QB. Imagine Ben doing play action with a RB the caliber of ADP.

Very nice pick getting him this late. I was going to have to take him if he fell to me at 21.

Good pick. I was dreading the possibility of ADP getting paired up with RG3/Kaepernick/Wilson so I'm kind of relieved he didn't make it there.
Would have loved to pair ADP with Wilson, would have been shocked if he fell. Considered him instead I'd earl Thomas but i don't see ADP lasting more than another two years on top.

2.18 Cardinals select Muhammad Wilkerson, DL

In a lot of ways, an elite D-line can function in a similar way to an elite QB. It masks your team's weaknesses, it elevates the other players on the field (both offense and defense), it can win games on its own, and best yet, it can't be avoided. Last season, Wilkerson, at only 23 years old, graded out as the second best defensive end by Pro Football Focus. With Atkins and now Wilkerson, I can be confident that my D-line will be elite for the better part of a decade at least. Similar to the Giants, this will allow my team to hang with any other, no matter who they have on offense.

I like the pick! I take it you are running a 4-3 with both of them at DT?
I think they could both play 3-4 DE too. Imagine a 3-4 with those two along with some good pass-rushing lbs :excited:
The 4-3 with both at DT is/was my plan. I was hoping for Wilkerson, though, for the reason that they could both fit in either scheme. With this flexibility, I think my base defense will be decided on what LBs I'm able to get later in the draft.

You guys are lucky. If ADP or Fitz fell only a couple more spots, you'd all be fighting for second place. The Raiders would be 10 to 1 favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Can't believe everyone waited so long on ADP.

RB's don't really have that much value in today's NFL so I'm not really surprised. In this kind of format, I'd probably pass on him and try to get a quality RBBC late. TONS of RB talent in the NFL. But that's just one man's opinion.

Did you really make this comment while you were on the clock and then leave without picking? :wall:

I would agree generally with ADP being the lone exception. Now that he's off the board, I don't foresee myself taking a RB in the first 10-15 rounds for either of my teams.

As weird as it sounds I adtually agree about RB shelf life, but I'd rather have a top flight RB ror 2-3 years with the thought that I can find another one in the draft or via FA. Also since other positions have longer shelf lives, the positions are deeper. I strongly believe there are only 4-5 top flight RBs.
