23.21 Cincinnati Bengals select Henry Hynoski, FB

Foster always does best with a good blocking fullback, and I think Hynoski is the last of those top guys. He'll be just 24 to start the season, so plenty of upside. He's not much of a receiving threat, but for the zone run offense I don't think that's very important.

And now this team has it's starting lineups:

Offense

1.12 QB Matt Ryan

6.12 RB Arian Foster

What's wrong with the D? i've got a bunch of guys who can get to the QB, and Williams is a beast in the middle, My linebackers are fast and talented. The corners are fine, not excellent but serviceable. The safeties combined for 12 picks last season.

You won't stop a decent run game and you will have the same problem at LB as i do in the secondary. inexperience. But at least i have champ while Jones isn't all that good. Your best defense will be your own run game.

OK I can see that. Inexperience at LB will be an issue and I'm sure there will be some mistakes made. However, we've seen a lot of linebackers come in and be great right away. Jones did pretty well and he's played inside and out in a 3-4 and 4-3 (in college) so he can help these guys. You're right though, keeping these guys fresh with my run game is the key, and I think they can get pressure and make big plays when they are ahead.

It looks like he's following my Saint's philosophy: use your offense to get a lead early and make the other team abandon the run. With the Saints, I see Nickel/Dime being used more than my base 4-3. My DL players individually are best at pressuring the quarterback, as opposed to stopping the run, by my own design.

Who is getting to the qb? I don't see anyone you can count on for 10+ sacks. I like Mingo but who knows what he will be. Jones and Wright are nice players but nothing special. I don't know....just not an impressive D. Just my opinion though.

Maybe nobody will get 10+ sacks, but i think Liuget, Dunlap, and all of the linebackers can get 5-10 each. The thing about this defense is I can lineup in a lot of different ways and send just about anyone. Jordan and Mingo are projected top 15 picks for a reason.

Dunlap might get eaten up in a 34 , Jordan is special imo while I think Mingo is highly overrated & I;m not to enthused about your back end

Now the offense while not spectacular should be very good. I could see it being an efficient enough passing threat while able to run

I think a lot of it will boil down to how one evaluates the rookies. For me personally I'm trying to put as much stock into proven performance as possible.

This sums up your problem perfectly. In one post I'm saying how I like Mingo and in the next post Hell is saying he doesn't. And neither of us know who will be right.

And we probably won't know for a few years, if even then. He may go to a terrible situation or not get along with coaches and disappear, or he could go to the right place and be the next DeMarcus Ware.

On the other hand, the same could be said for any player. Maybe the guys with proven production are in the perfect situation with coaches that trust them. We see it every year where these stud free agents get big contracts and then stink it up in their new locale.

23.20 Patriots Select Brock Osweiler - Huge quarterback who can make all the throws. Decision making is a question mark as well as accuracy, but I think he's good enough that the wheels won't fall off our team if Eli goes down. ::fingers crossed:: (Ponder would have been nice here...)

Since we've gotten through 22 rounds I went ahead and ranked everyone's pass and run blocking based on the players they have so far. How I did this was I took their 2012 PFF Pass and Run block ratings for each offensive lineman, fullback, and tightend and added them up for each team and ranked them. I then adjusted the rankings based on age/upside of the players. Here's what I came up with:

Thanks for doing this and it's very interesting. Looks like the top O-line in terms of overall balance for the pass and run are: Broncos, Dolphins, Bills, Giants and Jaguars

Can't complain about that for my team =D

If the top 3 lines as to pass protection have geno Smith, Matt Schaub and Russell Wilson, i like my chances to have a good offense.

If the top five as to running have Ingram, Lacy, Lynch, SJax, and David Wilson, that's a plus.

Of course, we aren't done yet. Our next guard will pull us back some.

Bills at 31 with Staley, Iupati, and Yanda plus a good blocking TE doesn't seem right.
They're #1 in run blocking though. Seems about right to me, as none of those guys are known for pass pro work...
Massie and Konz really hurt the pass protection numbers for that team. They combined for -27 pass blocking. If they were 0s for example the team would rank 13th in pass blocking. Unfortunately they were a liability last season and that is the data I had to use.

Also note I have no data for rookies or anyone who was out all of last season, so those players did not affect the numbers positively or negatively.

I know it's not a perfect system, but it's the simplest thing I could use that uses actual data.

As for adjustments, here's what I did:

1. I added up the numbers and ranked team (raw ranking)

2. I came up with an adjustment number for each team. This was pretty simple. No player at the position is -1. A player 30 years or older is -1. A rookie is 0. A player 26-29 is 0. A player 25 or younger is +1. Most teams were around -2.

3. I applied the adjustment to the raw rankings, so a 5 ranking with a -2 adjustment became 7.

4. I reordered them using the adjusted rankings so the lowest adjusted ranking became 1, the next lowest 2, etc. In ties I favored the teams with the better raw ranking.

The Saints OL is about where I expect them to be in the rankings. Slightly above average in pass protection and below average in run blocking. With the offense I plan to run, the interior line is crucial to my scheme. I can use my RB/TE to chip edge rushers but my interior line must be dependable. Running primarily a spread offense should also make it more difficult for defenses to blitz.

Chiefs as the #3 run blocking OL is what I was aiming for.

Yeah I was really happy when I looked at the results. I wanted the Browns and Bengals to have good pass protection. I should note that if I didn't count Tony Gonzalez's whopping -17.1 run blocking to the Browns, they would be #3 or #4 in that category. I was a bit disappointed in the Bengals ratings, but I know part of that is that I favored zone blockers rather than taking the best overall linemen.

Also, Rams still top 10 in run blocking makes me feel good. I knew pass pro would be bad, but with that defense...runs and play action will be everything anyway.

Bills are #1 in Run and #31 in Pass. How the heck is that balanced? My Niners look good to me...#11 pass, #9 Run. Quite good considering how long I waited on some of the guys there. :)

With the 23.24 pick, the Niners select FB Jed Collins

Continue the Fullback run! Collins is a good blocking FB with decent hands that Brees is familiar with. Will help get my Run Blocking rating up, as he was rated quite well in that area last season and is still very young.

Technically you have the best and worst. And so it is average, but give the nod to the elite run blocking. Don't question the logic, I was tired when I posted that =P

23.32 Saints select Joel Dreessen, TE

24.1 Saints select James-Michael Johnson, WLB

Dreessen is insurance if Kelce is a complete bust. A balanced TE who excels in blocking and is sufficient enough as a receiving threat. If Kelce plays to the level I hope, then Dreessen allows 2 TE sets to be a viable option.

James-Michael Johnson is my top WLB and my "need" pick of the turn. The pickings are slim at WLB and he's best of the rest on my board.

Offense
QB Aaron Rodgers 1.1
