Calling out the commisioner (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Long time listener first time caller...

Had my second round playoff game yesterday against the commisioner (a good friend) and I noticed some foul play. Had my kids baptism at the same time as the games so I texted him asking him to give me updates of our scores. When I had a chance to check scores I saw that I was in trouble and that he started rice, mcfadden, and charles and benched hillis which seemed seemed a bit off so I checked his line up changes. According to the log while logged in as commisioner made 3 lineup changes during the games. his starting lineup was...

Manning, Peyton IND QB, Charles, Jamaal KCC RB, Hillis, Peyton CLE RB, McFadden, Darren OAK RB, Britt, Kenny TEN WR, Garcon, Pierre IND WR, Davis, Vernon SFO TE, Graham, Shayne NEP PK, Patriots, New England NEP Def

and after some changes he ended the day with a winning team of...

Manning, Peyton IND QB, Charles, Jamaal KCC RB, McFadden, Darren OAK RB, Rice, Ray BAL RB, Britt, Kenny TEN WR, Williams, Mike TBB WR, Davis, Vernon SFO TE, Graham, Shayne NEP PK, Patriots, New England NEP Def

how have you guys handled these kind of situations? this league is a no money league made up of friends and we have been playing for 6 years now. i don't want to blow up the league but this would have been my first trip to the big game and it doesn't sound that fun to play when you know strings are being pulled.

He's cheating in a no money league?

Copy/paste the transaction times and post them to the league message board. Ask that your lineup also be changed to however you see fit.

If the changes clearly indicate that he without a doubt cheated...I would call him out publicly on the league message board. Friends don't pull that crap with friends, especially in a no money league. Come on, man!

I'd send it to him privately if he's a friend. Then only play with him if he isn't commish. Again - if he's a friend don't call him out in front of other friends.

Agreed with the others, but make sure you are seeing the timestamps appropriately. Some web sites reflect timestamps that represent EST or PST... Just make sure you are 100% correct.

In addition, make sure the moves were DURING the games affected. Worst case would be a lineup change during the 1 PM game, but the lineup change affected 4 PM games, so the games in question had not started.

Being a commish is a thankless job, in most cases.

I'd probably post it on the message board in your league, but try to do it in a nice way and let the commish explain his/her actions. Starting off the discussion with accusations of cheating will probably not lead to anything productive.

If he was a friend... he wouldn't have cheated in such a pathetic way to begin with.Post it publically for everyone to see, and don't let it go until he fixes it.

I think a lot of us have fewer "true" friends than we think . . .

Yes, because all of us are perfect. The friend was a doosh. As long as he fixes it your friendship can move forward fairly easily. In the grand scheme of things this isn't a big deal.

who lost? this post only tells 1 side of the story. what's the other side? who is the commish? is he someone you know. too little info to judge anyone.

wow, excellent catch. I'm in one no money league with coworkers and I wouldn't notice if they changed players in my own lineup.

:lmao:

Here is a hint guy, anyone who would do this is not a real friend. You and the OP are in need of much better friends.I would inform the league, if you don't you are not a true friend to the others.

Are you that hard up for friends that you include a "doosh" in that group? In the grand scheme of things he can never be trusted again.

This has nothing to do with being perfect, why would you bring it up? Do you understand the topic?

I'm fairly surprised at the aggressive reactions/suggestions above, but that is neither here nor there.

I don't know what the right answer is quite honestly, but there are some questions worth asking on your part.

What is your overarching goal? What do you hope to accomplish?

How important is the friendship to you?

How much do you care about winning a no money league?

What do you stand to gain by outing him in front of the whole league?

What do you stand to gain by taking it to him privately first?

What do you think his reaction will be if you out him publicly?

What do you think his reaction will be if you discuss it privately?

What is the ideal outcome of this situation?

Which of these approaches seems to give you the best option to achieve that ideal outcome?

These are just a few question you might consider asking to help you come to a decision. I hope this helps.

Absolutely double check that the lineup changes were illegal and he wasn't just adjusting his starting lineup for later game starts or subbing guys in and out before the deadline. Like mentioned previously, make sure it isn't a time zone issue.

Once you are absolutely 100% correct that he was cheating, then call him out on the message board with proof.

I seem to have hit a nerve. I wouldn't play in a league with this guy ever again (well, maybe if he weren't commish). If this is a one time incident I wouldn't end a friendship over it. Apparently you would. I have no problems confronting people or being a jerk. But if he's a friend, take the higher road and let him save face to the others. If the OP returns to the league make the commish resign...he can tell people it's for whatever reason.

:bag: Then see what he does.

Me too. Clearly the right thing to do here is to triple check to make sure that his moves were made after the games involving the swapped players had already started. Then, go directly to his house, and punch him in the face several times in front of his wife and kids.

It has nothing to do with whether or not it's a money league either but that seems to influence some people's advice...

maybe you could contact that group that sued AFFL and see if they would sue this guy too for fraud and emotional distres
