You know, I bet if Smitty got his other foot down on the TD throw and that 35 yard completion to Olsen wasn't brought back by a holding call everyone would be drooling all over Cam right now. Cam performed worse against the Giants but everyone drooled all over him that game. Groupthink is a fickle thing, please don't get caught in it.
No that is not even correct. Cam maybe threw 2 balls last night that were perfect. The rest he was either on the run, bouncing up and down (literally) or throwing off his back foot. Add this to the fact he was throwing into coverage a lot. I am a firm believer you cannot teach reading and reacting to defenses if you have no foundation by the time you have made it to the NFL. It rarely happens and I can cite 10 easy examples to the contrary. Combine his horrible mechanics and inability to read defenses and I would say "houston we have a problem". For the person that was asking about Smiths value I would say he is a 8-10th round pick at best. While Cam targeted him a lot he was inaccurate and Smith looked slow actually. I would say Smith gets about 40-50 catches this year and a few TD's.
I am not saying Newton is a bust....yet, but for a #1 pick he has the furthest path then any other pick that I can remember. I am in just disbelief of how bad his mechanics are, you would think the Panthers would have seen that in all the tape. He was literally bouncing passes in front of his wideouts last night, not even remotely close.
