Cam Newton (1 Viewer)

925 total yards and five TDs through two games. Wouldn't have dreamed that was going to happen a month ago. And the Panthers D is bad enough they'll be forced to keep letting him throw a bunch of weeks. Even the weeks he doesn't have to chuck it as much if he maintains the 40-60 yards rushing with a TD here and there it'll still be totally worth rolling him out there.

He's active and starting next week for me, I'll guarantee that much.

Grabbed him in every league I could last week.... likely will dangle him for upgrades.

Top 10 THIS year?
#1 player in all of fantasy this year imo
:lmao:
You pick any one player. I'll take Newton. We can bump this thread at the end of the year.
brady :football:
Yeah there's no way Cam outscores Brady all year. Defenses will adjust and they'll still lose 14. I bet he's top ~8 though. Gonna be an excellent NFL QB.

I would start Newton but I have Brady. I don't know what to do. In my league Brady 39.095 Newton 38.080

Drop Brady, pick up Jesse Holley

It's not all that far fetched. He now has the two best passing days as a rookie in his first two games. That's sick...
and in other news, brady passed for 400+ in consecutive games... for the first time in his career.
Announcers in that Pats game said Brady was the 6th QB ever to pass for 400 yards in back to back games, so I'm guessing Cam was the 5th

we likely have seen Cam's top 2 fantasy performances of the year. That being said, I can see how people will find it hard not to start him over any QB other than Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Rivers and maybe a few others. I'm rolling him out next week but will not be shocked to see a very average day. He still locks in pretty hard on first read and gets away with some bad footwork due to his huge arm strength. He has better weapons that I expected to. Lafell pulled down some nice grabs to pump up Cam's numbers. Smith looks good as ever. TEs look good too.

Starting the list pretty early...

Most yards passing in rookie debut

Most yards passing through first 2 games for a rookie

Most yards passing through first 2 games for any quarterback ever

Most yards passing in a single game by a rookie

Only the 6th time a QB has passed for 400+ yards in back-to-back games

Most yards passing in a single game in Panthers history

3rd most yards passing in a single game in Panthers history

2nd most yards rushing in a single game by a QB in Panthers history

Looks like they didn't have up to date stats, so cam is the 6th, brady is the 7th. (still rather impressive.) Brees did it once, but one game was the playoff loss last season so it doesn't count for nfl records.

That first drive today was unreal. If you didnt see it, watch it tomorrow on 30 minutes on the NFL Ticket and you'll see what i mean

That one footed jump pass 60 yard dime to Steve Smith late in the game was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.
According to Pantherclub, that shouldn't count since he technically jumped off his back foot. He should demostrate better mechanics and jump off the front foot if he wants to amount to anything in this league.

Where do you guys see him in Dodds' Top 200 list later this week (overall and position)? I'm having a real hard time trying to decide whether to overreact to his performance thus far or underreact to prevent myself from overreating. Did that make sense? Am I crazy to consider him a top 5 quarterback going forward?

Newton's going to be a way better FF QB than in real life. Kid's potential is through the roof and the stats are very impressive but if you evaluate him as a NFL QB he leaves a lot to be desired. Once teams get enough film on him times will be a lot rougher.

Awesome start for him though and he's showing a lot of maturity (which is half the battle).

What makes you say that?Obviously, he's made his share of mistakes. Does he make more than you'd expect from a rookie being asked to completely carry an entire offense?

I can't tell yet how successful he'll be as as an NFL QB. Just curious what you see that tells you he'll be limited.

As much as reading the bickering in here is great, what do those of us who have him do with this guy? Do we plug him in as the starter and not look back? Where do we rank him now?

Cam Newton is the most overhyped QB of all time. One season of productive college play, combined with a ton of off the field issues, don't add up to NFL success, imho. So far this preseason, he has been abysmal at throwing anything other than the most simple passes. With his alleged "cannon arm," one would think he should be able to hit his WRs once in a while. How about a long completion or two? It's laughable the way ESPN is now attempting to use the most esoteric stats imaginable in order to transform Newton's horrendous preseason performance into something positive. What is this absurd "only four QBs have scrambled for more than 15 yards nonsense?" Has such a ridiculous (and probably not even accurate) statistic ever been used to justify the "greatness" of any other NFL player? What makes the media's agenda clear is the fact that fellow rookie QB Jake Locker, on the same night ESPN, Rotoworld, etc. is trying to hype up Newton's completely pedestrian 26 yard scramble, ran for a 22 yard TD. That's 6 yards longer than Newton's "unbelievable" TD run last week. Funny, I didn't catch a single media mention of how "memorable" Locker's run was. From Trent Dilfer's gay outburst over Newton's totally run of the mill predraft workout to the constant media prediction that this arrogant diva "must be" the #1 draft pick to Warren Moon's racial hucksterism in basically demanding Newton be the #1 pick (and recent demands that he be the opening day starter), no player has been so over promoted by so many powerful forces in the history of sports. When you compare Newton's mediocre preseason efforts to Tim Tebow's 113 QB rating, amidst a clear cut media campaign to end his chances of being a starting NFL QB, even the drunkest fan ought to understand just how "unbiased" these "journalists" are. With the ecstatic hysteria over Newton's 16 yard TD run, and his 26 yard scramble the next game, can one imagine what the media's reaction would be if, in his first NFL start, he rambled through an entire defense for a 40 yard TD run? I think it might be just a bit different than the reaction an actual NFL rookie QB received when he did just that, last season. You know who he is- the guy Merrill Hoge, Boomer Esiason and everyone else who ever worked at ESPN and the NFL Network keep telling us "can't play" in the NFL.
Please tell me you think Tebow is a better QB prospect than Cam Newton.... :lmao:

I just asked this and nobody seems to give a #### about discussing his value going forward.

Bump to see if anyone comes in here and says, "You know, maybe I was wrong about this guy."
so far the list is a small one Stealthcat
I'll add myself to it. I did not post it in this forum, but I did tell friends of mine that this kid should never have been taken in the first pick of the draft, and that he would never make it as an NFL QB. I am eating crow. He is simply remarkable.

I think that unless you have Brady, Rodgers, and maybe Brees, Vick, and Phillips you play him. Carolina will probably be behind a lot this year so he will throw quite a bit. If nobody is open then he will run. Between running and passing I can see him having a lot of 2-3 TD games this year.

RELAX it's preseason. This is the first year that rookie had no benefit of OTA's. No need to stick your fork in him yet. :shark: play is really to go and grab newton from an owner who is freaking out at an admittedly subpar passing performance.
:lmao: THat's what FF losers do. Of course, it's going to be hard to pry the bum from them because if they were dumb enough to draft this hack, they aren't smart enough to see that he's a bust in the making.

The world was convinced he was Akili Smith 15 days ago. Projecting his value going forward's a bit difficult to do.I don't think anybody would be crazy to start him over anyone not named Brady, Vick, Rodgers, Brees, or Rivers. I have no clue what he'll do, but the upside seems real. CAR can't run the ball very well and doesn't seem too interested. He's got the keys to this car and he's shown he can make plays.Still hard to trust a guy after 2 games when everyone thought he would bust.

we likely have seen Cam's top 2 fantasy performances of the year.
So after his first two career starts he's peaked and he's on the decline?:rolleyes:He got.taken one pick ahead of where you were going to take him tight?
Okay, shall I predict he throw for 500 yards next? Let's be realistic. There's going to be a decline in his average numbers coming up. It doesn't mean he's not fantasy relevant. I think he's a starting QB1 for the rest of the year. But I don't think he's averaging 30 fantasy points a game either. For the record I own him in 3 leagues.

Because it's really hard to tell after two games. However, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he is going to be a top 5-10 QB going forward this year. I base this not just on the kid's skills, but on the remarkable fact that the coaching staff has apparently decided that the best way for them to be competitive (and not so incidentally, put fans in the seats) is to let Cam loose and not reign him in. That tells me that he's going to continue to throw the ball deep all year long, and even though he will make plenty of dumbhead mistakes along the way, he's also going to get his 300 + yards as he keeps airing it out. I also think he'll run the ball more too, and run it for TDs- that represents, of course, an added plus for most of us who get 6 points for a rushing TD and 4 pts for a passing TD. I have decided to bench Tony Romo for Cam Newton. Let time prove me wrong. I think we've got a QB1 here, and a top player in FF this year.
