Can we discuss pet peeves here? (2 Viewers)

Popping in to once again remind all that if you are not ordering fast food through their app, you are doing it wrong. Saves money and aggravation of trying to communicate with those employees.
Don't want no apps, thank you very much. There are way too many of these things to have to deal with.
OK grandma.

ETA: My wife is the same way... and I call her grandma too.

How can they not be prepared? Remember I’m the restaurant guy.

As you are a restaurant guy, unrelated question for you. I was out a Michelin star restaurant recently. They brought out an array of vibrantly colored knives, which the waitress smilingly asked me to pick one from. They were all serrated on one side for people who cut with their right hand. I asked if they had a lefty-friendly knife (or at least serrated on both sides), but I was told all the same. So, I just grudgingly picked one. Is it a proper pet peeve to be annoyed by restaurants that only carry righty knives, or should I just accept that as my lot in life as a lefty?
For serrated that’s your lot in life. Very few would have them for lefty’s. It’d be quite the touch if they did.

Was this for meat?

They should carry the wicked sharp non serrated knives for meat. Personally I don’t like a serrated knife for meat. It tears the flesh rather than slices through. It’s just the nature of the blade. And serrated blades are usually for tougher meats.
Thanks. Yeah, for meat. It was at least a tender wagyu. Required a little extra effort to cut, but I’ve been to some places that give the serrated on the wrong side for me for some tougher meats; so, I’ve at least had worse experiences.
Wagyu should never require effort. :sadbanana: and they definitely should be offering serrated knives for it. IMHO
Well, it was serrated. Just on the wrong side for me as a lefty.
What am I missing here?

Yea, is it like scissors?

Yes, like scissors (I do own lefty scissors too, and wish Ned Flanders’ Leftorium was a real thing.). With a one-sided serrated knife, one side is flat and one side is serrated. It is intended to prevent twisting while cutting, but if you are holding it in the opposite hand it can have the opposite effect of causing twisting.

I'm left-handed and I am completely shuked at what the hell we're talking about

I'm currently holding a serrated steak knife and it feels no different in my left hand than it does in my right hand

You have left-handed forks too?
Consider a knife that looks something like this. It is serrated on one side, and completely flat and dull on the other. If you hold your knife in your right hand, that is fine. If you are holding the knife in your left hand, you would have the dull, flat side facing you while cutting and serrations facing away from you.

And?
It makes what you are cutting more difficult to cut. This is the pet peeve thread, right?
What the hell are you cutting where this would even be the tiniest bit noticeable?

And yes, this is the peeve thread. And I got a new one to add
Steak.

So for you that are right handed, when you cut the steak with your right hand, do you then put the knife down, transfer the fork to your right hand, or just eat the steak with your left hand like a Neanderthal?

People that STILL wear masks in public. I'm in Vegas so see it all the time from lame tourists in hotels and casinos. If there's one symbol of somebody I know I will 100% not get along with, it's someone wearing a covid mask. I internally roll my eyes every single time.

You must really love people that wear a mask when driving their car with nobody else it it.

are you turning the knife upside down when in your left hand?

have i fallen for a classic shuketrap(tm)?

This makes no sense. Why would people not wanting to get sick annoy you so much?

I spent 4 weeks sidelined with Flu Strain A last month and am still feeling some lingering effects. Got it from a work event where everybody seemed to fly in sick. Lame. That **** was horrible and yes, I will be masking in places like planes and airports probably for life.

Huh? I really have no idea why this has been so confusing for folks.

When you pick up a regular knife blade that’s designed for a right-handed user, you will notice that the blade is sharpened on the left side. This is so that, as you naturally turn your hand inwards as you cut, this doesn’t affect the quality of the cut. Instead, it keeps it straight and neat.

However, if you’re a leftie and you try to use one of these knives, you’ll likely find that you don’t get a nice neat slice. This is because the design of the knife actually worsens that inward twist and ruins the cut. At best it spoils the presentation of your food, at worst it’s incredibly frustrating.

the problem being knives are sharpened on only one side makes sense. never considered that as i'm a righty steak cutter guy.

Do you walk around with a mask in Casinos and grocery stores? At some point it becomes ridiculous.

Thanks - I’m okay with what I got at home. This started with my pet peeve about a fine dining restaurant only carrying the one-sided designed for righties, and struggle cutting a steak. And then turned into people having a pet peeve with my pet peeve or something. But maybe I’ll buy something like that to carry around and take it out Crocodile Dundee style next time.

Hmmm.
As a patron I hold my fork in my right hand, cut with my left.

In the kitchen, I cut with my right.
Same. :euro style:
Same here too, guess I'm fancy like that.
wait..i misread that. i eat in the euro-style with the fork in my left hand and knife in my right. I never switch hands. in WWII american spies had to be taught to eat this way so as not to reveal themselves. actually, actually true.

vegas casinos are some of the grossest places on earth. the sea of humanity from across the globe and the DISGUSTING stench of cigarettes make this completely allowable. and the lame tourists from asia were masking up before covid. HTH

Our local hospital just announced today that masks are mandatory inside their doors 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have no problem with people still wearing masks...unless they have their stupid dong nose hanging out. Wtf is the point?

At least before when there were mandates i could somehwat understand people being boners about it. But now? I mean you are choosing to wear it.

How this is a peeve is beyond me. This is bothering you how?

Because they’re stupid. Stupid people are annoying.

That’s not even a pet peave. It’s just a regular peave.
