Can we discuss pet peeves here? (3 Viewers)

Apple CarPlay is one of the greatest inventions of recent years, to the point where I kinda dread driving my wife's 2015 Subaru because it doesn't have it. But the unchangeable default setting of "We're going to start playing whatever music/podcast was on your phone the moment you start the car up, and if you turn off the audio we're going to assume you made a mistake and turn it back on" drives me up a @#!@! wall.

Same with AirPods. If I'm listening to something, pause it, take out my case and put the AirPods away, why would you think that means I want to automatically turn the audio back on? Worst is when it does that, but the volume on my phone is all the way down, so it burns through half of my podcast queue before I even realize it

Dryer balls. These things are so dumb. Just use a dryer sheet like the rest of the normal people.
Tastiest part of the dryer!

In all seriousness, if you have any kind of DriFit clothing, sheets will destroy the sweat-wicking capabilities over time. Before the advent of dryer balls, I had to make sure my wife never accidentally threw one of my running shirts in with her load

Or don't use that stuff at all, like a normaler person. Dryer sheets smell like ***.

what do you use to prevent wrinkles?

2 lane road. No/very small shoulder.

The jackholes that just go around stopped mail/trash/recycle vehicles without making sure there isn't any oncoming traffic. You don't have the right away. I do dumb-dums
It's a good thing you are still here to be able to complain about this type of jackhole

I hang or fold my clothes. No wrinkles. (And I don't buy 100% cotton shirts any more. Life is too short. Poly/cotton blends, if you please.) Ironing clothes is for the birds.

The best smelling clothes I remember was when my mom and grandma used to hang dry clothes in the sun. Luckily for us the birds back then lacked good aim.

Dri-fit clothing.

It’s hot and it stinks.
I was using the term generically to refer to all sweat-wicking clothing. Some versions are much better than others.

But as someone who lives in Miami and runs every day, it's an absolute necessity
Yeah, nicer stuff has antimicrobial tech that limits stinkage. As someone who also regularly exercise in a tropical environment, agree it’s waaaay better than cotton.

I have switched to long sleeve even in the summer when working out just to keep the sun off. As soon as I get home from work every day I am outside exercising in the houston heat for an hour wearing long sleeves and sometimes even long pants. Dry fit is the greatest invention of all time. Nothing can keep you cooler while keeping the sun off.

I bet I have 10 of the below, mostly bought on sales from academy not at that price.

I even have 2 of the below if I am going to be in the sun all day. I often wear a face gator with the hoodie too.

Dryer balls. These things are so dumb. Just use a dryer sheet like the rest of the normal people.
Way wrong here.

Helps dry towels and sheets faster. "Fluffs" the towels as well.
Lol. Who the f is in a rush to dry towels and sheets? I put them in the dryer. I turn it on. I come back after cycle is finished at some point and wah lah, they are dry.
Right with you, bro.

Dryer balls are really useful for fluffing quilts and eiderdowns, which do need fluffing.

So you're not into saving money? Less drying time means less time the dryer is running, less money to the electric company. Plus, ~$7 for a set of dryer balls that lasts for hundreds (or more) loads is cheaper than the several boxes of dryer sheets you'd have to buy.

My driver's ed was a semester-long class in high school. Simulators, advanced maneuverability, etc. I really wish it was still the norm.

With that said, in Ohio, first license requires 50 hours of driving with an adult in addition to drivers ed. I know it's the honor system, but I definitely made my son do it and will with my daughter.
In MD it is 60 hours. I also made my daughter do that and more.
My daughter completed her drivers ed and received her drivers license in Okinawa Japan. When we moved to Virginia, the state of Virginia gave her a VA drivers license without consideration for the fact that she had never driven on the right side of the road and her complete training was based upon Japanese driving laws. I was stunned.
Is there any major difference in Japanese laws?
Heck...we could require retaking the eye test every five years starting then, and we'd eliminate a lot of unsafe drivers.
I am only 51 and had to get a new license as mine was expiring in the next month or so. Since the DMV only allows one license tied to an email address I couldn't use our family email since my wife already tied her license to it and had to go in. Since I went in I had to take an eye test as part of the issuance. So they do this if you go in.
Many years ago my grandfather went into DMV to renew his license and failed the eye test. So instead he mailed in his renewal paperwork and he got his new license in the mail.
Stickers on vegetables at the grocery store.
That’s good one
I've read those are edible. But I still peel them off
Does the grocery store clerk really not know that this is a cucumber?
but is it organic or pesticide free or juiced up with GMO's or ????? I mean there are 100's of different types of cucumbers
How you doin?

Nope. You have been scammed.

Durable construction lasts and lasts for hundreds of uses and actually helps your clothes dry faster. These handy dryer companions will keep all your fabrics feeling soft and fresh use after use."

The Test:
Drying with and without the Dryer Balls.

The Verdict:
Difficult to detect a noticeable difference--other than increased noise--when drying with the Balls."

So I posted this before but I would like to post verbatim the Ring Neighborhood Alert - i received.

For those not familiar you can "join a community" with your Ring doorbell and other cameras. I guess its 10 mile radius a little less/more. You can post anything but its usually - hey someone tried to open my door last night - here is the video. There is a fire here etc. There is an emergency at xyz....... Of course people post really dumb stuff - like did anyone see the fox running around the neighborhood and gets posted at 6am......

Without further ado

Hummingbirds missing?
I'm just curious if anyone else has been feeding hummingbirds over the years and now suddenly they are not showing up anymore? I started out this season having my normal hummingbirds come to my feeder every day and all of a sudden they are not coming back anymore and it's sad. I keep fresh nectar and everything for them and they are just gone. They have been returning for years now. Could it be the neat?

:lmao:

this is my wife and oldest daughters favorite excuse for when they don't want to do something "oh, i just started my laundry".

OK. it will wash/dry for 90 minutes and then sit there for days until someone else uses the washer/dryer. it takes 3 minutes to load/unload either. that's not quite the clever loophole they think it is.

Not sure what product they were testing but there's plenty of anecdotal evidence (people who've used them) that says it does reduce drying time.

“Using a Wool Dryer Ball can decrease drying time by up to 50%." https://www.parachutehome.com/blog/wool-dryer-balls

"Depending on the make and model of your dryer, they decrease drying time by 30 to 50 per cent, saving energy and money." https://davidsuzuki.org/living-green/wool-dryer-balls-shrink-drying-time/

One of the main benefits of using dryer balls is that they help reduce drying time, sometimes as dramatically as cutting it in half. https://www.thespruce.com/what-do-dryer-balls-do-6741931

Real world experience, about 3minutes in he states reduced drying time. https://www.amazon.com/vdp/07eec6b74e7740449ed80bc573fc13ca?ref=dp_vse_rvc_6

ETA: here's someone who went to the extreme of doing an actual test. https://littlemainefarmhouse.com/do-dryer-balls-really-work/

If you run an airport concession, just hand people utensils automatically with their order. Don’t make them go find them.

Signed, someone who didn’t realize until I was on my three-hour flight that a) I didn’t have a fork and b) JetBlue doesn’t carry utensils since they don’t serve food.

Where’s Amy Klobuchar when you need her? My kingdom for a comb!
Was at the airport quickly grabbing a bite to bring on the plane. Paid for my bowl, started to walk off, and I suddenly flashed back to this post and looked in my bag. Sure enough, no utensils. Crisis narrowly averted.

My new pet peeve: Put the utensils at the exact spot where people place, pick up and pay for their order, not out of sight around the corner

I don't own dryer balls, but have used tennis balls to fluff up down garments.

Since you seem to offer ball authority around here, do you approve of their use as a fluffer?

Places that advertise in big bold numbers a great price for gas and then in little letters below that "with car wash" and then below that also in small numbers the real price without a wash.

This must be illegal in NJ because I've never seen this tactic here, even though there are plenty of places that sell both gas and car washes. (NJ has a ton of gas station regulations, including no self serve and no selling gasoline below cost.) But I see it all the time in MA, where my mom and sister live.

The no self serve would bother me...but then again it would eliminate the idiots who can't figure out the gas pumps at Costco.

Probably already posted in the first 200 pages of this topic but...

On-line and telephone customer technical service.

I had a problem with my furnace and after they fixed it, the app doesn't connect to the thermostat. So I try the chat feature and it's just a bot that can't do anything. So I called the customer service number for the thermostat and I gave them the model number, serial number, MAC ID, mother's maiden name etc. etc. and they tell me it's an easy fix but I have to call the manufacturer of the internet gateway and he gives me their number. I call them and they are already closed because they're on the east coast. Next day I called back and gave them all the same info and they say they can't help and refer me back to the thermostat manufacturer. :hot:

I ended up doing what I should have done from the start. Googled it and followed a YouTube video. :bag:

Everything is legal in New Jersey…
