Can we discuss pet peeves here? (14 Viewers)

Long overdue MoP pet peeve that has likely been mentioned before but I wanted to drive the point home

-Couples, Threesomes and Foursomes, families that all must walk shoulder to shoulder 2-wide, 3-wide etc...down a hallway, path or sidewalk that is built and intended for people to walk past each other single file

This morning I almost was run over by an old fat lady walking next to her almost comatose husband shoulder to shoulder down this hallway..."I'm sorry am I in YOUR WAY?!" and that quickly shocked that hubby out of his ketamine like state...and it's rampant everywhere, I have to almost stop and ask people before they run me over if they understand the concept of single file or sharing the path/walkway. I'm 6 foot 3 and I'm about ready to start pushing out my elbows and arms and just shoulder block these people and say "Oops":rant:

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go pop a Narragansett and feign some more anger
What? They're just about to serve lunch most places around here, it's about time to pop one
Grr....worse when they are glued to their phones..head down, oblivious to the world

If I’m in Atlantic City for a long weekend I understand there’s a great chance I’m going to lose $ gambling. I’m also going to buy over priced food a couple times a day. And over priced alcohol. All good. Bring it on.

Why does the resort “store” have to charge me EIGHT DOLLARS for a 16 oz bottle of water??? 😡

Same reason a dog licks his nether region

And in America we drive on the right side of the road. Is it so difficult to transfer that behavior to walking? STOP WALKING ON THE LEFT SIDE!! :hot:
But we walk on the left side of the road, so...

(j/k I agree with you. Plus, half the people around here don't walk on the left side of the road like they're supposed to anyway)

United States vs The World In any kind of all star game or athletic event.

The egos we have here makes me puke.
Maybe Australian Survivor's upcoming Australia vs. The World season will be more to your liking.

LEGO Masters Australia vs The World 2024

But umm....
In a global showdown unlike ever before, the USA team eventually won the coveted title and $100,000 prize money during Tuesday night's Grand Finale.
2025 version of LEGO Masters Australia vs The World just wrapped up.
Grand Masters of the Galaxy

Team USA was dead last, as in last multiple weeks until the elimination weeks started where they went home first.

'World Record' - 1 female has 450+ hours in LEGO Masters competitions and has never been ousted in the elimination rounds.
5 of the contestants (2 person teams) are former champions.

Finale was Team Sweden vs 2 teams from Australia.
Votes are by the main judge and 200 guests - mostly children.

All are huge builds.

(AU) Athena on Pegasus battling 3-headed Hydra (1st - very clean build with great spacing to highlight the centerpieces)
(SW) Life Size Child battling Toybox Monster (3rd - busy build, humans are hard to perfect on ratio and nothing looking blocky)
(AU) Playful Dogzilla versus cranky Catzilla (2nd - busy build with lots of mini-figures reacting from the destruction)

Winners had won the very first season and now season 7 - the only 2 time champs. They had not competed since the first season.
Laughable (but not travel ready) Champions trophy is 10 feet tall - made of LEGO.

People that talk baby talk to their pets.
People that talk baby talk to their kids. We just started off talking in words, but in the usual tones we all think are comforting for babies. By the time each of them was ready and was trying to talk in words, they were trying to say words they'd heard all their lives.

We were in a pediatrician's waiting room and were listening to and talking to our less-than-a-year-old kid. One woman across the room said to another "Look, they're talking to their baby like it's a real person."
My wife and I said in unison "He is. He just doesn't know the words yet."

I might be misunderstanding what you mean by baby talk.

After all this time both working remotely and communicating through things like instant messaging and Application Lifecycle Management software (if you know, you know) you would think people would have figured out by now that corporate communication is just one giant example of the Telephone Game.

So if I ask you, Snarky McSnarkerson, a question about "are we ready to test" or some such, don't respond with "Well if you look back through the notes you'll see that in the section that was annotated a week and a half ago blah, blah, blah...". Just answer the fooking question!

Communication tip - you're not always as clear as you think you're being when telling someone something. They don't always understand it the way that you meant it. And they don't always remember it the first time around; you may have to repeat yourself and the person asking for clarity isn't committing a crime by asking you to do so!

there are two people on my team with absolutely incredible memories. as a result they think they are never wrong and they get very frustrated if you can't remember a conversation in passing from 8 months ago.

This is what we do too! They're people.

Baby talk is the stupid high pitched a boo boo boo aren't you just so cute woo woo or adding a -y or shortening words to half the word related twice. Like a chair isn't a Cha Cha.

yeah, as the "AS I ALREADY TOLD YOU" has taken the national stage lately ...

This is a very fine line. While asking something again because you forgot something isn't a crime it can become quite annoying when it is asked over and over and over again when the information was already provided previously multiple times.

There is nothing quite as annoying as being asked the answer to a question you have already answered 4 times in 4 different reports that go out to the same people every week/month/quarter etc.

people that can't drop their corporate personality and just be... normal.

they didn't grow up a corporate robot. it can't be that ingrained that you lose yourself completely.
Can we pin this thought and circle back?
i'll have a slide deck prepared. check my calendar for availability and book a meeting. i'll silo my other tasks and we can synergize a solution.
just make sure it's before EOD

It won't be, but we have 47 more conference calls this afternoon to discuss in micro-groups.

You may need some re-onboarding. "Teams" is so 2015.

People............or more specific bad / irrepsonsible / people.

Son just called while I was being updated on this thread.

Wreck on the way home from work in a semi residential / wooded country area.

2 lane road and a young girl (late 20's in an old beat up ford taurus) was passing people coming around a corner at a high speed for the area (say 50mph). Son didn't see her until it was to late (curve and trees) and slammed on his breaks. She creams his drivers side front corner spinning him, and then of course he gets hit from behind, and that person gets hit from behind...................then the girl takes off on down the road at a very high speed.

LUCKILY 3 motorcyclists were at the back of the 7-8 train of cars she was passing, and 1 stopped, and the 2 other and a few cars chased her down and caught her in traffic / traffic light about a mile down the road. Son and 2 other people in wreck were ok (most important part of whole story) and cars were "drivable".

Motorcyle #1 guy got a call from his buddies that they had the bad driver in a target parking, and the whole crew (all 3 wrecked cars and the #1 guy) proceed down the road. Police are on the way, and the girls is claiming "I didn't hit anyone". Son got her license plate and a picture of her car boxed in in a the parking lot.

1 - Car just got out of the shop on Monday and had 3K worth of work on it (BMW taxes I call it) so that it would last for another year or so.

2 - Same exact car / son that was hit by a local "rapper" with a shady instagram 3 years ago, and they shared insurance information and addresses (was not exactly fond of a guy that poses in pictures w/ loads of $ and guns having my address). Told him the car is cursed.

3 - If this car is totaled, I guess I'll just be out the 3K. SMH.

4 - Again, all is this is minor to the fact that no one was hurt. Son said it could have been really bad if hit happened about 10 seconds earlier when she had no where to go back to her lane.

I'll update when I get more info.
Ok, so we are a little over 3+ weeks since the accident. Son called insurance company (Excellent Insurance............I can't make this up) that night and left a message since their office was closed for the weekend. He received no call back on Monday.

He called on Tuesday (6/10) and finally got ahold of someone who took his statement and asked him to send pictures of the damage which he did that night. A week goes by and he hears nothing so he calls them back on 6/17. Voicemail. Leaves a message. No one calls back.

Calls back on 6/18 and 19. Finally gets his claims processer on the afternoon of the 19th who proceeds to ask him to send in pics of damage to car. He says "I already did". Reply of "well we didn't get them", so son says "I'm emailing them right now, please confirm that you've received them". Gets that confirmation, and is told it will be a week or so, but "we'll be in touch".

He has heard nothing since then so he tries calling today and is told "your processer is out of the office today and tomorrow" and is asked to leave a voicemail. How he didn't go MOP on them I'll never know.

After he tells me this I do some research. There are 3 insurance "companies" that have the same number to call for claims on the internet...............and guess what kind of reviews all of them have????? Basically a company for troubled drivers that can't get insurance anywhere else, and they scam them, and make getting a claim processed a nightmare while nickel and diming you.

Other info..........we were on GEICO at the time of the accident, but have moved / bundled w/ Travelers.

Do we call GEICO, and let them handle it? Do we hire an attorney, but that seems silly, since GEICO should handle this for us, right?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!

I don't understand. If you were using GEICO at the time of the accident, why did you call someone else?

you may have to repeat yourself and the person asking for clarity isn't committing a crime by asking you to do so!

People will ask questions that are answered in the email that was just sent them.

I was copied on an email where somebody asked...

"Do you know how much they will use annually"

I scrolled down and read the email she was replying to and the 4th line was...

"Annual forecasted volume is 8000 gallons".

It's the worst. The same people that didn't even attempt to research or lookup an answer to a previous issue that has been addressed. I'm asking for minimal effort before I do your job for you.

I'll send you the link to the online documentation again so you can have it. Mmmkay bye

I may or may not be with you on this one.

If I know you know which book in the library has the information I need, I'm going to ask you which one. I'm not going to wander aimlessly.

But I will also know not to ask more than once or twice - and the latter only after a good amount of time has passed.

With the copious amount of information that's just thrown into "online documentation" - typically without any categorization - it gets more and more difficult to figure out where information resides.

The next person that tells me "just check the P: drive" is going to get a book to the back of their head.

Since it's summer. It's time for the usual poor dressing at work...Usually by women, that requires an all company email from HR as a reminder. Come on guys, you're not home, you're not on the beach. Cover yourself a little better.

Are you really complaining about women not covering up enough up top?
Probably doesn't want an HR complaint for staring

I don't understand. If you were using GEICO at the time of the accident, why did you call someone else?
He called the insurance company of the person who hit him.
That should have been handled by your insurance company. Typically you let you insurance company handle the back and forth as that is what you pay them for. When my daughter had a similar situation (hit from behind and the person took off - daughter was able to get license plate and call 911 to report the driver and the cops got her about 5 miles down the road) we contacted our insurance and they took all the insurance info from the other person and handled everything.

This is what we do too! They're people.

Baby talk is the stupid high pitched a boo boo boo aren't you just so cute woo woo or adding a -y or shortening words to half the word related twice. Like a chair isn't a Cha Cha.
I’m by no means an expert on childhood development, but I do recall hearing that “mother-ese” actually does serve a developmental purpose

Yeah I wasn't singling you out but I see it was part of the reply. It's the lack of effort so to speak on something that has 100% come up before, and we have clear documentation on. I've also had it in the past where a question was answered on an email and the person in question was on the original email. I was polite and say I'll just reforward you the email in case it got missed

Only to see I've reforwarded said email already for the same question....... 😂

To an extent. It really helps to use words, rather than crap talk. Some is good; too much is not so good.

Idk. My wife and I are pretty research based and did a LOT of reading, and basically everything we could find pointed to improved development by emphasizing sign and by talking to them like people as soon as they start to comprehend (call it 4-5 months in). Including the gold standard author on this stuff, Emily Oster.

Very happy with how it's going so far, and our pediatrician keeps indicating it's the right approach.

Yes/No.

Calling your insurance for an accident that isnt your fault lets your insurance know that you and the vehicle they insure was involved in an accident. Costs you your deductible. So its a "claim". If you think your insurance company is going to do anything more than protect THEMSELVES from you and or just make the same exact call you can to the other insurance company you are mistaken.

Ideally you contact their insurance company, take your car to get fixed and they pay for everything. This works as long as its clearly their fault and they have paid their insurance. Its the ideal solution and correct way to handle it.

In this case and a recent accident I had where an unlicensed, uninsured driver rear ended me while I was competently stopped - his fault but I had to file a claim though mine because he dindt have any. If he had insurance, I would have simply called them and taken my car to the shop.

Nope. I have no idea how your insurance works, but ours handled all of it. No deductible loss at all.

That was not our experience at all. We called our agent to get advice/info on how to proceed. They took the insurance info from the other person and worked with their insurance company to take care of all the particulars. It did not go in as a claim against our insurance. We had to get estimates etc along with medical bills (my daughters back was tweaked a bit and had chiropractor and other medical aspects). The other's person insurance was terrible (she was a terrible driver and our agent essentially said that the company she was using was only for terrible drivers). We got the max out of them for what the minimal policy provided. It essentially covered the fix and med bills but not much else.

All of which was worked through our agent and their insurance company.

You are probably right. I just keep getting hit by uninsured drivers (Last three!) so its been awhile for that scenario.

You didnt mention injuries. That sorta changes everything.

I said the ideal situation. Ideally you call them, they fix your ****, thats it. Doesnt always go that smooth.

I did have to deal with the other person’s insurance company when someone hit my car when it was parked on the street in front of my house and totaled. But that was because it was a 13-year-old car and I didn’t have collision insurance on it.

My insurance company, GEICO, did say they would step in if the driver’s insurance company didn’t respond. But luckily the driver had Allstate and they did. And I ended up getting about twice as much money from them as I would have if I’d tried to sell it (pre-crash) at Blue Book value.

I said the ideal situation. Ideally you call them, they fix your ****, thats it. Doesnt always go that smooth.
But why do you call them? That's what my insurance agent is for. I called my insurance agent, gave them the info for the other driver and they handled all the back and forth. Same as what Mrs R stated above as well. I have insurance in part so I don't have to do all the work. That's what I am paying for.

Because how its been explained to me is that every time you get a "moving violation" (ticket) and/or accident that you uses a "claim" for your insurance company - your rates could go up.

By making a simple phone call to the liable persons insurance, you avoid making a claim on your insurance.

We didn't make a claim on our insurance. We made a claim on THEIR insurance.
