my MIL's inability to understand that people, in fact, work from home

she sometimes pops over mid-day to drop things off, pick up my kids, etc. and if i'm not actively engaged in a phone call or meeting that she can hear.. she will text my wife to tell her that i'm not actually working, but instead just sitting at my desk "pretending" to work.

she has told my wife that she doesn't believe i actually even have a job because i don't go to an office.

mind you, she stopped working when she was 21-22.

My FIL doesn't grasp this either. I don't get tattled on though. But he knows I WFH two days a week, and he'll pop by because he likes to use our pool. If I'm not actively on a call he'll plop down and just want to chat, for an hour or more sometimes... I really need to build a separate office bedroom where I can shut the door instead of working at the dining table.

I come across this weekly on my commute:

In a 55 mph zone outside of town for several miles, and I come up on someone puttering along at like 50 mph for miles.

Then, as you get closer to town, the speed limit eventually ratchets down to 50 for a stretch, then 40 and eventually 30.

Their speed in those three zones? Also 50.

I can't wrap my mind around how one can go 12, 13 hours without even checking in? Logic would dictate that with the advancement of technology, the draft experience would improve. Logic is sadly mistaken.
