Candy Crush (1 Viewer)

Never played it. Isn't this a game you have to pay to win?
No. You can beat it play it without ever spending a dime but you need to have facebook to do so. Can't really beat this game. IT never ends.
What does Facebook do? I'm on level 170 and haven't spent any money or used Facebook.Edit: Haven't spent money outside of advancing levels rather.
Would not have had to spend money to advance levels. Just get 3 friends to unlock the next section for you.
The other reason to connect to facebook.. I have the game on my phone, my Kindle Fire and of course Facebook. When I'm trying to get through a tough level, I can get 15 turns instead of 5..
This is what my wife does. Crazy.

I'm on (and stuck on) level 65.

I'm on 165

Never paid for anything - also anti-Facebook.

I play the quests to get to next levels. Get around the 24 hr wait by changing the date/time on my phone.

When you get the striped balls that clear out a row or column, is it completely random as to whether they will take out a row or column or is there some science to it. Seems I've gone horizontal and it will go row or column and vertical where it will go row or column.

me too. It's embarrassing enough to myself that I play this - no need to advertise it to the world.

I stopped playing when I couldn't beat level 440. The set of levels beginning at 411 are horrible because there's no skill involved, only luck (these are the ones with tornadoes.) There were two boards where I broke down and bought extra moves because I could tell I needed two moves and only had one left. After being stuck on a level for a month and finally being within reach I was happy to pay the dollar just to get past it.

When I stopped playing level 440 was the last one, but I see that they've added more since. I won't be going back.

If you make a stripped candy moving the candy vertically it will give you a vertical striped candy that will take out a column. Same with horizontal candy.

Thanks. How about if you move a candy next to a stripped candy?

so a set up like this (x = green stripped, o = green non-stripped and y = non-green):

Original position:

yyyy

oxyy

yyoy

Moved position:

yyyy

oxoy

yyyy

This always seems random to me.

That should take out a row or column based on if you have a vertical or horizontal green stripped candy.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I never even noticed whether the candies are vertically or horizontally striped. :tumbleweed:

Also, thing that took a while to notice. Stripped candy will not take out candy in that row or column anymore once it hits licorice.

Tip: If you see you can make a stripped candy, don't be so quick to make it. You might be able to turn that into a sprinkled doughnut in 1-2 moves.

Took me a while to figure out that you can get a wrapped candy with a T shape, not just the L shape. And the first time I saw the bombs I thought they were time bombs and tried to do the board as fast as possible.

If you have trouble getting enough points to beat a level (time levels) the bombs give 3000 points.

I'm on level 80-something as it is taking me some time to adjust to the licorice pieces. It seems like the best way to take those out is with regular 3-in-a-row matches.

On the bright side, I already keep getting stuck at places like Level 35, and you guys are all on like level 500, so I'll hopefully lose interest long before that.

350, trying to run down f'ing rudnicki who's around 400
Level 350 made me want to quit. Worst one by far.377 here.
ditto on both... 350 took me a month and I broke down and spent .99 I had sitting in my iTunes account to get past it. I hadn't even gotten CLOSE to finishing 350, and ran out of moves with 2 blocks left to clear and had the pieces in place to clear them in 2 moves, so I donated the .99

Been on 377 now for a week and a half. Have gotten close on it, though so won't spend anything else. I swore I wouldn't in the first place, but I got tired of looking at 350

Just passed 350 with 8 moves left. So random.
yeah, was stuck on it for weeks and when I finally beat it, I had 20+ moves left. really weird and totally luck-based.

didn't know it needed to be mentioned, but I haven't spent any money on this or any other similar games.

Back when I was actively playing, when I finished a set of levels, I usually just paid the $0.99 to move on to the next set of levels. I don't see why everyone's so proud not to have done so. It's ####### ninety nine cents. I'm not going to bug my Facebook friends or **** around changing the time and date on my phone to save a dollar on a game that gave me countless hours of entertainment.

when you have 50 facebook friends all playing, it usually takes about 15 minutes to unlock the levels after I send out some requests. It's good to take breaks anyway. the money is small for any given purchase but I assume it can add up over time if you keep doing that.

obviously lots of people are paying for these games, but I think it's stupid personally. Rather spend that money on beer or gambling.

I haven't paid anything and don't bug/admit to facebook friends. So far though, I haven't been stuck on any level more than a day or two. Just finished 167

The psychology behind not paying for games (and it being a badge of honor) is kind of interesting to me. I wonder if that changes based in age, gender or casual gamer versus a more hardcore gamer in general?

People routinely think nothing of dropping $60 on a video game and then $50-60 more for new maps and weapons and such on games like COD or Battlefield. Heck, people pay all sorts of money in games like World of Warcraft and the such just for different outfits, characters, etc.

And yet there seems to be a more general outspoken element against paying anything towards Candy Crush. Is it people that don't really play games at all outside of it? Is it due to a sense of shame of buying one's way out instead of earning it?

The whole thing is fascinating to me.

FWIW, I quit at about level 120 about 6 months ago when it became obvious that the game intentionally sabatoges you at times in the hope that you'll spend money.

Sounds like someone spent money on Candy Crush :snicker:

Paying for a Candy Crush Level is like going to a prostitute. Why pay for it when you can apply yourself, and then may be you can get it for free? - Costanza

Seriously?

Not paying started with me jailbreaking my phone...I never pay for any apps.

I don't pay because I don't have to...seems ridiculous to pay when you have another option.

I think setting it up to pay will open up the floodgates and you'll talk yourself into paying more and in other games.

Plus...there is a sense of pride in knowing you didn't pay your way.

The game, played mostly on mobile phones, has been downloaded more than 500 million times, counts 282 million active players per month and takes in an estimated $901,505 per day.
:jawdrop:
Sounds impressive, but that's only $27 Million a month, or less 10 cents per "active player" per month. Basically if 10% pay the $0.99 for a few extra plays on a board they get stuck on. I've paid I think $3 total, currently on level 382.

Must be nice to have so much :moneybag: that $27 Million is :2cents: to you ;)
