Carson Palmer (1 Viewer)

fantasizing

We've heard all the excuses (arm injury, not stepping into throws, weak o-line, receivers not getting open/dropping balls, run first team, etc, etc,)

This year has to tell us whether he's got it, or whether he's done.

With a plethora of receiving options (TO, Ocho, Bryant, Gresham, Shipley, Caldwell, etc.) , an improving O-line, and a punishing ground game, there are absolutely no excuses for Palmer this year.

Anything short of 4000 yards and 25 TD's will be a major disappointment. ANd I don't buy this "we're run first team" garbage. You can't be 1 dimensional in the game today and expect to win the superbowl.

Discuss please.

Can you describe done? Done in FF terms or what? I would be willing to bet that Palmer will be the QB for Cinci in 2011 come hell or highwater, I've never really heard an NFL analyst talk about Palmer as being potentially done. It happens around here because he was throwing for a lot more yds and TDs before he started racking up injuries but I feel Palmer will be the Cinci QB for years to come.

I think you'll be disappointed. I don't think he'll get 4000 yards or 25 td's, even with the addition of TO. To me, he is done in terms of fantasy football and being a QB1, sort of how Hasselbeck was a top 5 guy a few years back and now just part of a low end Qb2 type but still a starting QB in the NFL.They are a run first team. If they're going anywhere, they'll have to play good defense and run the ball well. I think Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott are both guys that represent good value in your drafts. I think both 85 and TO's ADP is about where it should be, so they are not bad picks but some are reaching on Palmer and hoping he's a QB1 for most of this year and I think they'll be very frustrated and disappointed by seasons end.

I did not see the game, but the highlights that I saw showed me that his arm is not what it used to be. Unless that changes, I'm staying away.

After reading a lot of observations and watching Palmer myself, I think he's going the way of Jake Delhomme. The OP is correct, this year should show us whether he's ever going to return to his previous status as a QB1 or not. I don't think he will. Guys like Flacco and Ryan seem more likely to finish ahead of Palmer than behind him. I don't see how he beats out Peyton, Romo, Rodgers, Rivers, Flacco, Ryan, Brees, Schaub, Brady, Cutler, or Eli. I certainly don't see him beating out three or four of those guys and think guys like Stafford and Henne are breathing down his neck as well.

I sold him in dynasty and I'm not regretting that decision one bit.

Where is a good place to find observations on preseason games like this. I can't watch the games and I hate reading 3rd person commentary on something like this.

Absolutely. Maybe it is because he is a slightly better "real-life" QB than he is fantasy QB, or maybe the Bengals just overvalue him. Regardless of the reason, Palmer is the Bengals' plan A, B, and C at quarterback for the near future. That doesn't mean a whole lot for fantasy, but there is some FF value to fact that Palmer will not be benched no matter what. If you have him in a tier with guys like Henne, Vyoung, Leinart, Garrard, Moore, ASmith, etc... its got to be worth something that he is a lock to be on the field when healthy. I'm not sure I feel the same way about some of the other QBs around his ADP.
