Cedric Benson Keeper? (1 Viewer)

I play in a 16-team dynasty league. Benson has had a nice couple of weeks lately. Cincy's crew of running backs are miserable and Benson appears the best of the bunch unless Perry really picks up his game next year. Does anybody think Benson has a future with Cincy or am I crazy?

You're not crazy, but I don't think Perry is a threat as much as the drafting of a rookie RB or a signing of a free agent ala Kevin Jones/Derrick Ward.

I think Benson's year gets him a job next season somewhere and I think he's the frontrunner in Cincy, partially by default. In a dynasty league, you need to hang on to him - he's on ateam that gives guys with 10 cent heads multiple chances, he hasn't burned THEM yet, and it's quite possible that his stint out of the league gave him a dose of humility.

Benson is a UFA. Better wait to see where he lands.
This is the most correct answer at present. That said, as a Bengals fan I think it's most likely that they will keep him and make him the #1 back. They are as likely to try and develop someone like the unheralded James Johnson IMO. The biggest need is clearly on the o-line and I hope they take an LT in round one and then get a center in Round 2 and it wouldn't surprise me if they did just that. Based on his performance so far, I think they'd see him as a #4 talent at a discount price (and they just might not be wrong as it does seem that he's better with us than he ever was with Chicago). If somehow he doesn't end up back with the Bengals I think it will likely be that he ends up in a better situation. It all depends on your option but let the other owners be :goodposting: - you just might prove a :P One last side note - next year the Bengals play the AFC West and NFC Central oops North, a much better class of teams for him to run against compared to the AFC South/NFC East combo they faced this year.

Benson. Denver. Any chance?

1) who's coaching the bengals in 09?

2) who do the bengals draft or sign?

3) where does benson sign?

too many question marks about a lot of players at this point in terms of keeper ability. but based on the same situation - plus a healthy carson palmer - benson would be a definite keeper. there are 32 starting RBs and significantly fewer than that who can be counted on who aren't in a committee.

WHat ....

Benson is worthless , the only positive this season is that he did nt get injured . Cause playing wise he was lousy as he has always been.

I do not believe you've watched him play this year. He is playing (gasp) like a real NFL runningback. Whether he keeps this up is anyone's guess, but there is no way you can say with a straight face he hasn't been effective the last few weeks.

You only get so many games against the Browns and the Chiefs. Before the last week he was terrible. He's still only averaging 3.4 on the year.

Benson has been decent on a bad Cinci team. In a dynasty league, if you keep the majority of your roster, he is surely keeper worthy (even if he doesn't end up back in Cinci). If you're in a basic keeper league where you keep maybe 3-5 players, then Benson probably isn't a guy you want to give much consideration to.

He had good games against Jax and Washington as well as last week (and this week). Considering the state of the team he's playing on I'd say he's done well. No QB, poor offensive line; no idea if he'll be any good going forward but I think he's shown he does have the potential to be a good workhorse back.
