can't really get over how sad I am about this.
It's been a very sobering weekend. :sad:can't really get over how sad I am about this.

That's in Sockmonkey's sig, but there's no link to the post. I guess that's another great post that was lost to time. Going through my posting history, I don't see anything left from the Civil War stuff.SaveFerrisB said:I couldn't find the direct quote in the FBG archives, but when Yankee23Fan and ***la were negotiating the ground rules for their Civil War debate, shiney commented, "This has Lincoln-Douglas written all over it, except with dumb people."![]()

I remember that thread. Shiny was top shelf. Evolution debates just won't be the same.
Probably the best thing ever to happen to this place.
Thanks for posting this hack. It still hasn't hit me yet, I have been preoccupied over the past month and hadn't noticed him not posting but I have noticed before. Last fall in October he was gone for more than a month and I asked about where he had been, not sure if I ever got an answer and never cared because he was back and in full force. That was probably unrelated but the point is he was missed for that month for those of us who watch for his posts. Can't say I look forward to reading but a handful of posters material on the internet, but I always checked out his posts when I saw his name at the end of a thread. He'd stay up late like me so we crossed paths quite a bit I suppose, plus I generally agreed with his politics and enjoyed a ten post banter with him about nothing once and awhile. Anyway for the FFA this is like losing a All-Pro WR or really a top 50 greatest player (I'd say top ten for sure). But that is just content, we lost a good friend and a member of the family too. Hell I communicate with a few FBGs more than I communicate with most of my family with calls, texts, pms, and e-mails. Shining Path had gbs here like that too, he was good people. RIP Sendero Luminoso, you have no idea how much some of us will miss you.Doctor Detroit asked me to post this on his behalf (while he's on timeout).
This is like losing a family member, one of my favorites at that. When I had to go up against him in voting earlier this year I really did vote for Shiny because he was he was in his own tier of posters. Smart on politics, history, science, and college sports he was something of an oddball at FBG because he just made every post count. He was especially good at the funny, always having perfect timing and relating to almost any personality or posting type. He was always one of my favorites from the Moon needs a new name thread to the Russian bride draft to posts about canned meat. We exchanged many pms over the years and he was always gracious and entertaining as well as being an extremely intelligent person who always weighed all the variables in any argument. To say he'll be missed is an understatement, he is irreplaceable a one of a kind guy that we were all privileged to know even at a distance. I knew his first name and once sent him a pm with the Charles in Charge theme song as text. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends, he was a gem.

We'll miss you, Charlie.I'm 37. Makes this hit home even harder. I don't know what to say except to say that I hope I'm wrong and there's something else out there for you, GB.His obit is online. He was 37 years old. 37.
Thoughts and prayers for his friends, family.
'Shining Path]Anyone drafting Alexeyeva Dneiproskaya without clearly making the distinction between the waifish 24 year-old Muscovite ballet dancer and the 50-something welder in that Kharkov tractor factory deserves exactly what they get. Wow. Best combination of wit, wicked smarts, and straight up cool person that I've ever "met" on a message board. Can't believe I'm shedding tears for a dude I only know through the net. RIP Path. Best poster in FBG history, in my opinion. He will be greatly missed.

That's probably my favorite post ever on the FBG boards. He was extremely smart and witty. Truly sad news.SaveFerrisB said:I couldn't find the direct quote in the FBG archives, but when Yankee23Fan and ***la were negotiating the ground rules for their Civil War debate, shiney commented, "This has Lincoln-Douglas written all over it, except with dumb people."
If shiny's in heaven, he probably has god half-convinced that he does not exist. Lucky *******.If shiny's in heaven, he's probably saying "Holy crap, I can't believe CrossEyed was right."If there is a God a hope that's the line he gave him when he got to heaven.SaveFerrisB said:"Welcome to the big city, you poor *******."
We need a FBGs Ring of Honor.so sad, RIP shining pathcan we hang his member number from the rafters?

When you get to Bargaining, I have an Oronde Gadsden I think you'd be interested in.Currently moving from numbness to denial. So I'll be assuming that this is all an Andy Kaufmann like stunt. Shining Path, you rascal you.

Wasnt there some thread where the moon got a different name? Was it from a TV show?shining path said:Though why is a scientist of Hawking's stature using such an out-of-date term for the Moon?
