Do you honestly think his coaching staff is giving him players and he thinks "wow, this player isn't any good, but the coaching staff wants him, so I better go sign him".
The primary scouting info comes from the GM and internal scouting staff, do coaches have some input, yeah some, but player moves are the GM's job responsibility and the mistakes with them lie primarily with him. May they get some better opinions from a new offensive coaching staff and HC? Yeah it's possible, but that's still just one additional opinion that goes into the GM's decisions.
Guess we'll just have to disagree here. I think anyone trying to excuse Pace's many poor FA choices by putting blame on Fox is flat out reaching hoping you can pin the old faults on the guy that's gone.

Says who? The coach most definitely gets say so in who he wants under his coaching. No one is try to put the sole blame on Fox or excuse Pace, but it definitely played a role.

Sitton is cut. might as well sign one of the top WR FAs instead of trading away assets to get Landry IMO.
Watkins, ARob, Moncrief, Paul Richardson all out there. not a bad top4 group IMO

I sort of get why you'd prefer Burton to Eifert, due to Eifert's health. But there is no question Eifert is a better player when healthy. Maybe I'm in the minority(I have been on a lot of issues) but Burton feels like a FA bust waiting to happen outside of a very TE friendly offense with a 2 game sample size as a starter. I don't know if Burton is better than Shaheen.
I don't get the Wilson>Wright idea. Wright has been pretty decent his entire career, and already has a rapport with Trubisky. Wilson has the Nagy connection and that is about it.
Man I hope they aim higher than Moncrief. Not sure he's better than what they had last year.
Haven't heard Watkins name much, but he's probably as good as Robinson and likely comes a little bit cheaper. Richardson feels about the same caliber of WR as Kendall Wright, just a deep threat instead of a possession WR.
I'd be shocked if Miami doesn't rescind the tag on Landry.
My FA WR preference would be: Landry>Watkins>Robinson>Decker>Amendola>Richardson>Wright>John Brown

Burton is going to be a good player, he's what you want, imo. Not knocking on Eifert, but I don't think Burton will be a bust unless you're paying him top 5 TE money. He's a top 15 starter.

Crazy talk on the TEs. Yes on Meredith. He is going to make the leap. The injury just postponed it a year.

Is Watkins really worth investing in anymore? I've been very disappointed with his career so far and not sure how much he's help the Bears. I'm leaning more towards Robinson right now.
As for TEs, the Bears need more depth there and will need someone decent. I don't think they can completely rely on Shaheen yet.

Are Watkins and Robinson different? They both had 1 big year, and have been decent or injured since. Both have good excuses, and are still just 25. I have a hard time separating them, so I'd prefer whomever was cheaper, which I'm betting is Watkins.

I see that he's up walking with a knee brace on but have no idea what his status is for ever playing football again.
I guess I don't know if they really are much different. For some reason I just have a higher opinion of Robinson over Watkins. I guess either could help the Bears.

Some guys I'd like to grab in free agency:
Allen Robinson - I think he is the real deal and I would much rather have him than Watkins if we are going to look for a WR1 in free agency. Sounds like Jacksonville isn't going to tag him so he will cost a bunch.
Jordan Matthews - I look at him like Jarvis Landry "lite". Nowhere near the production of Landry or explosiveness but I think he would be a great addition as a safety valve for Mitch. Should be very cheap too.
John Brown - I like this kid. If he could just stay healthy, but why not for a cheap price tag.
Trey Burton - Showed lots of flashes. I would be inclined to overpay for him a little bit, as I think he might be an emerging talent.
Cameron Brate - Seems to me like a guy we could utilize in the redzone.
Trent Murphy - Since he is coming off the ACL and suspension, I think we could get him on the cheap. He's a good young player and a good locker room guy, or so I've heard.
Dontrelle Inman - I think resigning him would be a good decision. Cheap and all upside.
Kyle Williams - See Murphy ^. He might be too old though.
Muhammad Wilkerson - Headcase, but he's talented.
In the draft I would be stoked to see us pick up Quenton Nelson from ND. I don't think he'll last to us but WOW... what a highlight tape to drool over. As an O-line guy I am biased but replacing Sitton with this guy would be awesome. Drafting a guy like Ridley makes sense, but I feel like I've seen this movie before. Is he worth such a high pick when we could get a more certain contributor on defense?

I don’t think Floyd can be counted on for anything at this point. He’s shown a few flashes but nothing that makes him worthy of his draft position. I think Edmunds is a must pick at this point. Guy that can do it all.
That was kinda why I was hoping they could agree to a restructure with McPhee, he's still solid when healthy.
Edge rusher is the the most barren position there is this offseason, there are even more good QB's than edge rushers.
Floyd needs to stay healthy and prove he's good. He's looked decent so far, but they need him to take a sizable leap.

I think they're very happy with Jackson. He played very well and would've went much higher if not for the injury history. Really tough to see them going that way. As I stated last year, I think the top 10 spots should be reserved for QBs, OT, CB, pass rusher. Nelson is an exception. Didn't want a safety last year either early and a lot of people were hoping for one.
There is a lot of chatter that he could be a LT in the NFL, and only wasn't in college because of Ronnie Stanley and Mike McGlinchey.
They should like Jackson, he looked like a keeper, I was just wondering about James, because I think he might be the safest pick in the draft. barring injury, i can't see any way that guy isn't a multi time pro bowler.
They would be paying Robinson as a #1, but he's probably a #2 if things work out. Hasn't he had only 1 good season?
Wilson is a solid WR. I know he's been linked to Chicago; a few days from now the Bears will have 2 new WR's to go with Meredith.

It seems like a calculated gamble. If you give him a higher tender, you're automatically raising the threshold other teams are trying to top in offering him a contract.
The Bears have set the bar low, so hopefully the contract they may have to meet is proportionately lower than if there was a higher tender. Just my view on it.
I would be shocked if Meredith is not a Bear next year, personally.

If so then Landry would have been an awkward fit. I'll be upset if they don't snag Sammy or Arob. Prichardson is better than people think, IMO. I'm also all for grabbing another TE or two. Nothing against Shaheen.
