***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (3 Viewers)

Ugh. This is the Lester I was afraid we'd get: not bad overall, but rarely SP1 dominant and sometimes awful. Hate to see this in a series against a contender team like the Dodgers.
When lester is pitching if the cubs fall behind 2-0 it is pretty much over.

I hate when he is pitching. Guy can't throw to first, he can't get a hit, and ross catches for him. So basically you are only getting 7 innings of offense and have to play 9 innings of defense. Heaven forbid they get a guy with any speed and you are giving him and extra base every time too.

Not the numbers I was expecting. Very frustrating.

He's had a bad April & June. His May was outstanding. I really thought after May

he had turned things around.

Here are his monthly stats,

Damn Cardinals. We just can't beat the SOB's.

It's like the Bulls and Pistons many years ago. We could never get over the hump. Finally they did.

Hopefully the Cubs can do the same to the Cards.

It was like Oprah came to the Cardinals dugout and a gave away a bunch of extra-base hits: "You get a double! You get a double! YOU get a DOUBLE! EVERYBODY GETS A DOUBLE!"

She's back!!! :excited:

The Cubs have resumed their role as one of the biggest players on the international market after a one-year hiatus.

According to industry sources, the Cubs have agreed to terms with shortstop Yonathan Perlaza, ranked No. 13 on MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects list, for $1.3 million, outfielder Yonathan Sierra Estiwal, ranked No. 16, for $2.5 million, shortstop Aramis Ademan, ranked No. 19, for $2 million, Panamanian catcher Miguel Amaya, ranked No. 25, for a deal worth $1.25 million and third baseman Christopher Martinez, ranked No. 28, for $1 million.

There's also an agreement for $600,000 with right-handed pitcher Yunior Perez of the Dominican Republic, according to industry sources. Chicago has also been linked to Venezuelan pitcher Anderson Amarista, ranked No. 20.

The club did not confirm the agreements.

I live in the Tampa area, so there's all kinds of jokes on sports radio right now about Maddon's magicians and penguins and what not. He used to do the same stuff with the Rays. Some guys are into it and others definitely aren't. I hope it doesn't wear thin in Chicago.

Winning is king.

Seems like a good haul so far. Hoping we're still in on the #1 ranked guy - OF Eddy Julio Martinez. I guess he's not deciding today though, and the dodgers are the favorites to get him anyways

44-36

2.5 back of Pitt and like 20 back of StL

Pitching has been lights out, but that's been vs NYM and a Stanton-less MIA. Bats gotta be more consistent, but that's what you'll get with such a young lineup.

Miami and the Mets are pretty punchless. The true test comes this week with Lester, Arrieta, Hammel, and I guess Richard? against the Red Birds. Nice time for the kids to grow up a little.

if there was a 1 game playoff today, and all starting pitchers were on full rest, who would you start? arrieta over lester, right?

And the Cubs are gonna face a couple minor-league starters on fill-in duty for the Cards, right? If they can't take this series, it'll be a bigger downer than the last one.

Lyons and Cooney in the double header tomorrow. The Cubs' starter for game 2 seems to be up in the air as well though. Looks like they're skipping Richard.

Fowler dropped in lineup, in a move that's been a long time coming. Coghlan batting leadoff. I like Fowler, but he's been brutal in the OBP department lately. I think the worst thing that happened for him was his early-season power surge. Guy just needs to get his mind back into leadoff mode and let Rizzo & Co. do the work.
