9 years apparently
30 million for 9 years. Seriously? No doubt the Cubs are assuming a lot of risk here but just over 3 million per year through age 29? There has to be more to this.
I get it now. He is guaranteed about 30 million but can opt for arbitration when his time comes. The Cubs get 9 years of control at a low or fair price and Soler gets 30 million plus the opportunity to make more than that during the course of his deal.

I've got added incentive for rooting from my Cubbies in this series.

My BIL claimed that he was so confident that the Cubs couldn't/wouldn't sweep the Sox this week, that he would eat his own poop if the Cubs swept.

In fact he said: I'm so sure it won't happen, I'll poop, put it on a plate, stick it in the microwave, heat it up and eat it on a cracker.

Don't know why he would microwave it, but.....CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Lets go CUBS!!!!

This is the closest I've come to having a reason to root for the Cubs in 12 years

Let's go Cubbies!:confetti:

Has anyone here ever tried to catch a home run ball? Tried to one-hand one last night during Cubs BP and thought I broke every bone in my hand for a second. Luckily it's just bruised. I have a newfound respect for people who catch home runs.

The whole night was Cubs BP

If I were you, I'd be sending your BIL text messages with Gavin Floyd's 2012 #s all day

I really think these players should be subject to the draft just like everyone else.
arent they gonna be next year?
They have not constructed an international draft as of yet. Starting July 2nd, each team will have I think a 2.9 million dollar spending limit for international free agents (not including from professional leagues like Japan). Teams can also sign additional players outside of the cap for a small amount (like 100K or something). Of course, teams will circumvent the rules and spend more if they can.

Pretty excited about Rizzo, may actually get me out to the ballpark. Now if they can somehow get Campana into the lineup everyday...

Rizzo was 2-4 w/ a nice go ahead liner up the middle.

first single should have been ruled an error IMO, and his double should have been a single. gotta love home-team scoring. i think urlacher had 15 tackles last night.

It's really great to see Cashner and Archer displaying their plus stuff in the bigs.

Shouldn't the Cubs have already traded Dempster or Garza to the Rangers or Yankees? I'm sure Boston could use Marmol in their bullpen.
