If they can do that again today against Salazar I'll be very impressed.
I prolly have this wrong, but something like 180 days (or whatever it is) on a big league roster counts as a full year of service time. They held Bryant back so they will get an extra year of control when he falls just short of the 180 (or whatever it is) days in his last year of control. So they basically get an extra year.
Re: Schwarberger, If he's up for 6 or 7 days this season, the earliest they can bring him up next year, to gain an extra year of control, would be 6 or 7 days later than they did with Bryant.

gotchya, so for every day he's up this year it just pushes it out another day next season. i guess if he's good enough they would probably sign him to a long term deal before he gets to his last year of control anyways. although they didn't use that line of logic with bryant so who knows. go cubs!
Bryant's agent is Boras who's clients never sign those deals and always go to Free Agency

And there isn't a hole in a corner outfield spot. Solar will be back soon and Coghlan has been a good player. Despite his start, there is no reason to think Schwarber will be anything but a league average hitter at this point and the Cubs already possess that quality at every position he could play. Barring another injury, he will be catching at Iowa next week. And everything I am reading is very optimistic he could be enough of a catcher to take advantage of the hitter he could be at the position.

I don't see any good way the Cubs can keep him up, but I don't agree with the bolded at all. There's a reason he got called up instead of the dozen or so other guys the Cubs could have brought up to DH, and that reason is that they believe his bat is ready.

i agree. My initial hypothetical situation was just if the 2nd catching spot on the ML roster opened up, not "why can't we find a spot for him on the big league club". Theo has said what the plan is (sending schwarber down no matter what), but no one seems to believe him haha

coghlan's walking a little more than his career avg, K rate is about the same, BABIP is .276 compared to a .317 lifetime avg so that's bound to go up. I think he's done a solid job in left this year

WGN really went overboard with its 3 innings of weather coverage in the middle of the game. I thought it was technical difficulties after the power surge, but apparently it was a conscious decision. I understand they have to get the word out, but if people wanted wall-to-wall coverage, there are other local stations doing the same coverage. Break into the game, give updates when needed, return to the game. Surprised a network that's carried Cubs games so long didn't seem to have a plan.

I didn't mind the coverage, but then again I've seen an F5 tornado up close(live in Plainfield)
People down here get a little skidish when those tornado sirens go off
Besides, I still saw both of a KBs shots.

They definitely need another starter. Maddon has done a good job of plugging the gaps, and they've had some good luck lately with inning-eating starts from Arrieta and Hammel, but they can't count on that all season.

Having them healthy can't hurt. The depth would be nice. However, Denorfia's ability to put the ball in play with runners on has been a breath of fresh air compared to Soler flailing away. Last night is a perfect example. No doubt in my mind Soler would have struck out against Jansen in that situation.
I love having position prospects with power, but the occasional solo shot doesn't outweigh a K% pushing 35%.
There's nothing impactful in the minors as far as starting pitching goes. If they want to compete they'll need to make a trade. Especially with Wada's status up in the air.

Ugh. This is the Lester I was afraid we'd get: not bad overall, but rarely SP1 dominant and sometimes awful. Hate to see this in a series against a contender team like the Dodgers.

Really weird choice aside from the obvious reasons, if this was just a Madden decision. Frias has a track record of getting pummeled third time through a lineup, so this game is far from over.
