Still can't believe Lindor completely missed that pop up.
I prolly have this wrong, but something like 180 days (or whatever it is) on a big league roster counts as a full year of service time. They held Bryant back so they will get an extra year of control when he falls just short of the 180 (or whatever it is) days in his last year of control. So they basically get an extra year.hypothetically, let's say montero's back gets worse and he goes to the DL, does schwarber stay up? rafael lopez is in AAA and is already on the 40 man roster.
i guess i don't get the whole "service time" thing that bryant went through and where schwarber is on that...
gotchya, so for every day he's up this year it just pushes it out another day next season. i guess if he's good enough they would probably sign him to a long term deal before he gets to his last year of control anyways. although they didn't use that line of logic with bryant so who knows. go cubs!I prolly have this wrong, but something like 180 days (or whatever it is) on a big league roster counts as a full year of service time. Re: Schwarberger, If he's up for 6 or 7 days this season, the earliest they can bring him up next year, to gain an extra year of control, would be 6 or 7 days later than they did with Bryant.
Bryant's agent is Boras who's clients never sign those deals and always go to Free Agencygotchya, so for every day he's up this year it just pushes it out another day next season. i guess if he's good enough they would probably sign him to a long term deal before he gets to his last year of control anyways. although they didn't use that line of logic with bryant so who knows. go cubs!I prolly have this wrong, but something like 180 days (or whatever it is) on a big league roster counts as a full year of service time. Why not just put him in a corner outfield spot?hypothetically, let's say montero's back gets worse and he goes to the DL, does schwarber stay up? rafael lopez is in AAA and is already on the 40 man roster.

And there isn't a hole in a corner outfield spot. Solar will be back soon and Coghlan has been a good player. Despite his start, there is no reason to think Schwarber will be anything but a league average hitter at this point and the Cubs already possess that quality at every position he could play. Barring another injury, he will be catching at Iowa next week. And everything I am reading is very optimistic he could be enough of a catcher to take advantage of the hitter he could be at the position. They seem determined to develop him as a catcher. Why not just put him in a corner outfield spot?hypothetically, let's say montero's back gets worse and he goes to the DL, does schwarber stay up? rafael lopez is in AAA and is already on the 40 man roster.

I don't see any good way the Cubs can keep him up, but I don't agree with the bolded at all. There's a reason he got called up instead of the dozen or so other guys the Cubs could have brought up to DH, and that reason is that they believe his bat is ready. And there isn't a hole in a corner outfield spot. i agree. My initial hypothetical situation was just if the 2nd catching spot on the ML roster opened up, not "why can't we find a spot for him on the big league club". Theo has said what the plan is (sending schwarber down no matter what), but no one seems to believe him hahaAnd there isn't a hole in a corner outfield spot. One of the bestCoghlan's been hitting the ball really well lately. And he's top 5 in the league in vigorous gum chewing.

Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan celebrated his 30th birthday Thursday, and received what surely was an unexpected gift: He became Major League Baseball's current "Iron Man." Coghlan has played in 128 consecutive games, the longest streak in the majors after Freddie Freeman of the Braves sat out because of a sprained right wrist,
Could've given me 200 guesses at that and wouldn't have come up with Coghlan.pantagrapher said:Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan celebrated his 30th birthday Thursday, and received what surely was an unexpected gift: He became Major League Baseball's current "Iron Man." He's gotta be on the moveCastro is a mess.
Trade him to the A's for Zobrist and Kazmir. He's gotta be on the moveCastro is a mess.
Or trade him to the Phillies in a package to get Hamels. Trade someone else for Zobrist and Kazmir. Castro would be an overpay for two players with expiring contracts.Trade him to the A's for Zobrist and Kazmir. He's gotta be on the moveCastro is a mess.
DONG!!!!
Can't go wrong with a pair of dongs.
Matt Sczdhuduuurr.Who is that Scrabble All-Star who also homered tonight?
I didn't mind the coverage, but then again I've seen an F5 tornado up close(live in Plainfield)WGN really went overboard with its 3 innings of weather coverage in the middle of the game. I thought it was technical difficulties after the power surge, but apparently it was a conscious decision. I understand they have to get the word out, but if people wanted wall-to-wall coverage, there are other local stations doing the same coverage. Break into the game, give updates when needed, return to the game. Surprised a network that's carried Cubs games so long didn't seem to have a plan.
Apparently for the first time since '09W
9 games over
They're worse with Baez and Soler in the lineup. And, for the most part, they're doing this without Baez or Soler or or Neil Ramirez...
There's talent still waiting in the wings. This team is built to flourish in the second half.
What I mean is that both guys will be better and will contribute and were expected to have contributed by this point. I guess that's a hopeful outlook, but they are top prospects with a good chance of progressing as they see more big league pitching. They're worse with Baez and Soler in the lineup. And, for the most part, they're doing this without Baez or Soler or or Neil Ramirez...

They need another starter, badly..
No reason given, as far as I can tell. One guy on twitter says hamstring, but that's totally unconfirmed.Bryant leaves game?
