Theo’s free agent signings have been pretty much horrendous for the most part.
Jon Lester and Dexter Fowler cut Theo a lot of slack. Morrow has been lights out.

I am trying to block out the voices who are already comparing Darvish to Carl Crawford.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh. Zobrist has been good. Lester has been good.

I don’t mind the short term stuff like Lackey where it was ok for a year and garbage for a year, but I also don’t give Theo much credit for Fowler or bullpen guys on short deals either.

Maybe it’s too early on Darvish, but he seems like a mental midget. Heyward has been an absolute disaster. Chatwood is unbearable.

I also realize how silly it is to complain in any way...

What in the eff?  You sign a closer for $21M and he sits on his ### in a one run game?!  He hadn't pitched since June 16th!
They did have 2 LH batters due up to lead off the 9th. Peterson was pinch hit for, which changed all of that, but I could totally see Joe trying to play the matchups here and saving Morrow for a hypothetical 2nd game save situation. That's because that's what kind of an idiot he is.

Game 2 of the double header will be a blow out one way or the other and Try Not to Suck  :nerd: will have him get 9 outs or something ridiculous.

I'll back pedal on the criticism of Maddon for the other afternoon.  Clearly Morrow was hurt and Wilson was the right call.  That L just stung.

Tyler Chatwood is single-handedly exhausting the bullpen. Joe made a point yesterday of showing that by keeping him in for 120 pitches.

Chatwood has got to figure out, somehow, some way.

Smoke and Mirrors.
I don't think that describes Lester in any shape or form. He is one of the sharpest pitchers in the league. It wouldn't surprise me to see him in the rotation when he gets close to forty.

He reminds me of Frank Tanana, who was a productive pitcher even when he lost most of his stuff.

I just looked at his numbers and I'm being overly critical.

Best record in the NL at the ASB

This team hasn’t even playing that well. Our best baseball is still in front of us

Nice little run going into the break.  Nothing really standing out to me as a glaring need to trade for.  Hopefully they can get vintage Darvish back at some point.

Montgomery is their best starter right now, imo.
Really?  I watched him pitch against the Reds recently and was underwhelmed. He wasn't bad, but I sure hope that isn't the Cubs best starter.

Wrigley is awesome.  You Cubs fans have it alright where you play baseball.  What a great area in an awesome city.  Blown away by how awesome Chicago is.

Is that a whiff of sour grapes? You guys had Montgomery wasting away in the bullpen, and you gave him up for Dan Vogelbach. All he needed was a chance.
Look, I like you Encyclopedia Brown.  Always have.  But if you ever again lump me in or confuse me with being a Mariners fan, I will cut you.  Do you hear me?   :boxing:

I hope it is Chatwood who gets bumped from the rotation, but I suspect it will be Montgomery because he can pitch out of the bullpen and Chatwood cannot.

They still have Chatwood signed another 2 years.  :wall:

They can't keep trotting this guy out there. Between Hamels and hopeful returns of Darvish and Smyly, hopefully he's out of the rotation sooner rather than later. Guy needs to be situated to mop up duty for the near future if he's on the big squad
