C'mon parents....stopped with the EFFed up names.. (1 Viewer)

Again, the name was given to enough kids during that period that it brought attention to it. I didn't make it up but thanks for thinking that I did. The names you mentioned I have never heard of but I have heard and know more than one Rotunda.

:lmao: thought at thinking I just made it up or heard about it.
Not that it matters at all, but if you can provide any evidence of more than 3 or 4 people being named rotunda in 1964 or 1965, I'll happily concede your point (though technically, the name still wouldn't be "popular.") Till then, I maintain my original post that your are full of ####.

And I care because why?Sure you can google up and find enough references or come down to Dallas sometime. Let me know.

or go ask Nigel, he's got like 30 friends named Rotunda.

Maximus...

No kidding.  I witnessed two very proud and culturally gifted parents chasing their child around a McDonald's play pen recently.  The child's name was Maximus.

Not Max.  Not Maximilian.  Not a family name either, as I asked.  I had to despite the wife's request to let it go.

I guess Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Obi Wan and Luke are probably over done so I can see how the happy couple came to this decision.
Sorry, the sub 8 year old crowd does not do well at Ruth's for dinner.

and you were there because? So the only place to take a sub 8 year old is at a McDonalds?

Have a Peyton (girl) in family. Thought it was bad until they named her sister "McKinley"

Was hoping they'd just name all their kids after presidents. "Harding, get your ### in here!" "Polk, if I gotta tell you ONE MORE TIME!"
:lmao: "Lincoln, you put that candle out and go to bed right now!"

"Van Buren! Take off your sister's ballerina outfit or you're gonna get a time out!"

That'll be a first.

It was pretty popular in the Dallas area, promise.

Again, I have no reason to make it up.
Except to pass on an urban legend. The most popular name in 1964 was Lisa, with more than 50,000 across the country. The number 1000 name had just 100, again, across the country. So unless Dallas become the epicenter of the name rotunda, it just wasn't that popular. I know the city feels guilty about the assassination and all, but guilty enough that 100 parents gave their daughters a ridiculous name? I doubt it.
no urban legend, I was born in dallas (not named Rotunda) and grew up in texas. Where did I ever say it was the most popular name? I said it was popular. Last time I looked popular doesn't mean MOST popular.Lets just say that while the JFK funeral was on TV, the name 'rotunda' was said over and over and over and there were enough people who named their children rotunda that it brought awareness.

Or, you can think that I'm sly enough to pick out a word from the air and attach it to a moment in time and a made up story. Go for it.
I have lived in Dallas practically all my life and NEVER heard of anyone name "Rotunda". I do know a guy named Dallas Addison though.I do like unique names over traditional names though. Mine is very common.
Were you born in mid 60s? Just asking.

Hell, that's nothing. I have 6 friends in Dallas named Grassynole.ok, that's BS.

I don't have 6 friends.

The number of Lee Harveys in Dallas sure have decreased since the '60s. Weird that we have a bar called that, though.

Edit: Can't believe Smoo didn't call me on that apostrophe error.

What about changing the spelling of a normal name say .........Mathew instead of Matthew
This is one of my pet peeves.
People are idiots, plain and simple. True story:Someone asked my friend one time how did he spell his name because their son had the same name.

His reply was "Sean"

They they said, "Oh, that's interesting and haven't heard it spelled that way, our son's name is spelled SHAWN. Why did your parents spell your name that way?"

His reply "Because that's the correct way to spell it."

My friend is getting a PHD in classics and Sean was the original way (derived from Jean) to spell it.

Look, you want to spell your kid's name a different way to "be different" then knock yourself out but at LEAST learn the original way and don't come off looking like a complete moron and not even know how your kid's name was spelled.
Isn't "Sean" the male spelling and "Shawn" the female spelling?

I think "Sean" is the Irish spelling.

These threads always remind me of the black chick at the relish tray during office Christmas Party.  When someone asked who brought the "Crudite"....

"Crudite!? Thassa purty name!"

Her daughter Crudite should be around 7 years old by now.  :lmao:
Rotunda

This was a popular name for children right after JFK died and they showed his funeral on TV.

Sadly, I wish I was kidding about this.
Oh, bullsh##.
I wish I was.
Go look it up. Rotunda was not among the top 1000 most popular baby girls or boys names at any point in the last 55 years.

I think "Sean" is the Irish spelling.
It was derived from Jean (John). The point is really that if someone names their kid Chone and then asks another Sean how he spells his name and when they say the name as it was originally spelled, don't say something like "Wow, never heard of that" or imply that's an incorrect way. This was someone who always thought it was spelled like Shawn and that Sean was sort of different.

A problem was encountered while processing your request.

Giusseppe is not in the top 1000 names for any year.

Please try again.

Sweet. Completely original, yet supercool.

2. Moral.
You're aware that's Americanized, right? In French, the stress would be on the second syllable, and the vowel would be different. I am going to continue pronouncing it the French way.

Some other kids I had as students this year. They would have been born around 1992-1994:

Taking roll the first day of school is like code-breaking for the NSA.
Hmm.. I never knew TB taught in the 'hood. Who knew.
by hood, do you mean soccer mom neighborhood? I think these names reak of yuppie.
While you're probably right, to me they reak of uneducated teenage mom's brought up on hip-hop and Wayans brothers movies.
You will not see half of these names in South Central.

My son's name is Coltrane.

:bag:
#### no........
Should I have named him Fred or Mike? Those names don't mean anything to me :) Incidentally, I don't think there's such a thing as a "normal" name anymore. It seems like more and more boys and girls are being named with exotic monikers.

I'll probably name my kids Cody, Catherine or Cassidy just to throw people off.
