C'mon parents....stopped with the EFFed up names.. (1 Viewer)

Our daughter is Gabrielle and our next daughter is prolly going to be Sophia or Natalie.

I notice that names tend to be trendy though.  Not a whole lot of Ethel or Bertha out there.  Or take my grandparents...

Albert

Elroy

Corrine

Doris

I don't know one kid named any of those names, but they were quite popular 70 years ago.
I know a Corrine.
I work for a Corinne.

My 2 daughters are:

Jaden Mackenzie (2 1/2)

and

Addyson Taylor (3 weeks)

My wife and I get some not so kind remarks, but neither of us care.

It's not like we named them Apple or something.
ahh, yea you did.
No we didn't. But thanks.I guess we should have gone Beth, Sue or Kelly, right?

Or maybe Ava, Meagan or some other very common name.

Seriously.

Who gives a #### what remarks people make? Just face-punch them. Your's are out there a little bit, but not too bad.

Thanks. And I agree. We wanted unique but not crazy out there.

Okay, early returns on Desmond are suspect. A more complete shortlist for baby due in 5 weeks.

Desmond

William (would call him Will)

Nolan

Colin

Ronan

Riley

Katherine (would call her Kate)

Lily

Lucy
You might as well go with Ritz........

Tell me about it.
1. Where does that name come from?2. How do you pronounce it? More-Isle? Moral? More-Eel?
1. Nobody knows. My parents claim it's French, but none of my French teachers had ever heard of it.2. Moral.
I'm french so maybe I can clear things up. Tremblay is the most common family name in Quebec. Maurile does sound french but the french name is Maurice, not Maurile. So it' s part french I guess. And in french it's pronounced "Maurill".
Thanks for clearing that up....sport.

THAT'S IT...........I AM NOT CLICKING ON THIS THREAD AGAIN. I AM NOW CONVINCED THAT PEOPLE ARE JUST MAKING #### UP TO PISS ME OFF. GOODBYE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think of Flugendorf? For a boy, of course.

Names added:

Logan

Carson
Logan is my last name.Named the kids Holden, Erin and Colm. Holden is a kinda f'ed up name, Erin is fairly normal and Colm (pronounced cull-um) is a traditional Irish name and pretty f'ed up especially since it will be mis-pronounced forever. All three kids get called Logan at the doctors office because it is becoming such a popular first name, they must get confused with the whole "last name frirst" concept.

The President of my company has a son named D'Postrophe.
Liar.
Yes huh. He will probably marry one of your future daughters: Hunter, Parker, Alex, or Dusty :vomit:
In Through the Out Door sucked.
:o
Ummm....
Well, notice that I said it kind of sucks. I couldn't find another album I had even heard of, stalker.
Gotta go. See you at the train station at 5:50....although you won't see me...

It was pretty popular in the Dallas area, promise.

Again, I have no reason to make it up.
Except to pass on an urban legend. The most popular name in 1964 was Lisa, with more than 50,000 across the country. The number 1000 name had just 100, again, across the country. So unless Dallas become the epicenter of the name rotunda, it just wasn't that popular. I know the city feels guilty about the assassination and all, but guilty enough that 100 parents gave their daughters a ridiculous name? I doubt it.
no urban legend, I was born in dallas (not named Rotunda) and grew up in texas. Where did I ever say it was the most popular name? I said it was popular. Last time I looked popular doesn't mean MOST popular.Lets just say that while the JFK funeral was on TV, the name 'rotunda' was said over and over and over and there were enough people who named their children rotunda that it brought awareness.

Or, you can think that I'm sly enough to pick out a word from the air and attach it to a moment in time and a made up story. Go for it.
I have lived in Dallas practically all my life and NEVER heard of anyone name "Rotunda". I do know a guy named Dallas Addison though.I do like unique names over traditional names though. Mine is very common.
Were you born in mid 60s? Just asking.
1973. Old enough to have friends as well as co-workers born in the mid-60's. Never heard that name before.
Interesting, I was born in Iriving in 1970...guess we just hung out with different people.

Am I the only one who finds it odd to name your child after the city you live in?

I moved to Austin and have heard a few times parents calling for their child "Austin"

Same thing with Dallas.

How do you know who the child was named after?

That's irrelevant. It doesn't matter why you give the kid the same name as the city you live in, but it's something you do consciously.

Grew up with a kid named Green Bay. He was from Baltimore, I think.

It is absolutely relevant. He stated the kids were named after the city. He cannot possibly know if the kids were born in that city or if it is coincidence that they now reside there.

I played baseball with a kid named Austin. Then went to college with his sister, Houston. Troof.
We get it, you're smart.

People, please: NO VERBS. VERBS ARE NOT NAMES.
Doug, Barry, Chuck, Mark, Phil, Lance, Rob, Carrie, Bill, Mary, Will, Neal, Don are all no good then?
THAT IS CORRECT!
Actually, those are mostly good.Imperative verbs that don't require an object are bad. Most of those are either not imperatives or don't work without an object.
