Coach Otis All-Value Team (2 Viewers)

Coach Otis I have 1 draft left Saturday. What percentage of your value plays must I get on my roster (plus Houshmanzili) to declare CHAMPIONSHIP!! at the draft? I am thinking if your value picks get sniped by sharks I may put it on auto and give up the season early but if I get the majority I will stay and ask for my money right after the draft is done.

I had my league agree that if I didn't take my first two rounds worth of picks that everyone else would ice themselves.

I was able to acquire nearly every player from the all-otis squad, 2 people threw up during the draft and it was the bestest draft evah.

Oh, and I'm up 30-21 so far at half Oats.

Where do I send my check?

Normally I might tell you fellas to slow your roll, given that we are only halfway through the first games, but I think it's pretty much safe to say we've got this all locked up. :looktotheskies:

Royal 5 for 78

Welker 4 for 18, 2 TDs

Forte 123 total yards, 1 TD

Jerome Harrison averaging over 10 YPC; Hillis 2 fumbles and one lucky vultured YD on the back of a huge gain by Harrison

Rackers, just killing it, but who cares

And there is still a bunch of football to play.

J, Oats needs to be on staff. Make it happen now.

Hillis had 2 very costly fumbles. I will say though he looks beastly running the ball, but if he continues to fumble they can't keep feeding it to him. Harrison had a couple nice runs but CLeveland really shot themselves in the foot with some very poor play calling in the 2nd half. Delhomme got injured but continued and they wheels came off the bus real fast.

TE

Todd Heap

Everyone laughs at Todd Heap because he's old. Look, my dad's old, and I don't laugh at him every time he walks into the room. But Todd's only 30, which means he's younger than me, and it sort of pisses me off when you guys keep laughing at him just because he's old. I get that he's a few seasons removed from his 70+ catch streak, but he'll approach those numbers again this year. Why? Because Anquan Boldin will be hurt at some point. And Derrick Mason's wheels will come off. And Ray Rice is a nice safety valve, but you can't do that all day long and win. You'll see a steady dose of Healthy Heap over the middle this season. Did you see what he did to the Giants in the last preseason game? I know it's just preseason and I know nobody cares, but Flacco will target his nads off (approaching the 100+ targets of some years ago, and sufficient to get him the production he needs to be a top-5-7 TE this season, which is pretty sweet for a consensus 20+ ranked TE). Bottom line? I think we'll see at the end of the season that the only folks in the room laughing will be Todd Heap and the people who drafted him.
:lmao:

The best thing about Bradford is to play the D playing against him each week. I won this week thanks to Bradfords three int's. Keep it coming your on fire

Sam Bradford?

Larry Pampers Johnson?

:lmao:

I'll wait for a claim before voting you given you're eloquent praise of Welker, but you're gonna get runup if you keep posting this wolfy...

Our band of rejects had a decent week.

Forte -- Over 200 total yards and 2 TD grabs, including a fantastic game winner of a grab. Martz knows what he has here. We'll see plenty more of this as the season goes on.

Harrison -- 52 rushing yards on 7 carries. He didn't blow up the stat board, but was over 5 YPC and looked tough. Hillis continued down the path to showing his true colors with two costly fumbles, though he did vulture the one touchdown that Harrison earned on a long run. Hawks lay in wait. Sharks panic.

Welker -- 8 catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Didn't look even a slight bit hampered to me. Look to see him abuse Wilson and Cromartie this weekend for over 100 yards receiving. Beaks up!

BMW -- He also didn't light up the night, but was the leading receiver for SEA, and was a hair away from a TD grab as well. He will continue to be the WR1 here. And his numbers will continue to improve over time.

Heap -- He had what, 7 grabs for 72 yards, including a near TD grab that would have put him over the 100 yard mark? Heap like clockwork, all day, every day.

Bradford -- He looked nothing like a rookie out there. Kid looked fantastic in his first game out, with strong throws and pinpoint accuracy, and he didn't look scared at all (see, e.g., Mark Sanchez). His three picks are deceiving -- one was a hail mary with time expiring, and one was a throw he had to make on 4th and long in the series before that, which was seemingly their last possession. With steady improvement, his numbers will increase, and don't be surprised to see this being one of the best rookie QB seasons in a long time (ever?).

LJ -- You shouldn't have started him week 1. But in week 10, when he drops 125 and 2, you'll be thankful to be in the nest and not swimming in the Atlantic.

Garcon and Miller were quiet, but as ever true hawk knows, you can't hit every shot you take. That's guppy stuff.

Harrison fumbled the ball 3 times in preseason.... just saying.

He also didn't take out the garbage before he left the house to head to the stadium. His wife was annoyed about it. She left him a note on the counter.

LOVE this thread! Keep it up Otis! Great stuff!!

RB

Jerome Harrison

Joe Bryant gives us lots of good advice. Well, except for that one preseason he kept telling me not to take Frank Gore because Kevan Barlow or Michael Robinson or some other clown was the go-to-guy there, and I had to keep pulling Chase aside in a bar and plead with him that "you guys have got this one all wrong" but still nobody listened to old Oats, and we all know how that one turned out (with Calbear huddled in a corner in a pool of his own tears gripping a wet Kevan Barlow poster). That all went down in 2005, and this sort of feels a whole lot like 2005 to me. Because in every single writeup you see things like "well, with Hardesty hurt, expect to see Peyton Hillis and James Davis carry the load here." Wait, what? Why are we completely ignoring a guy who went bananas at the end of last year, and who has all the opportunity in the world to run behind a much better-than-advertised run blocking line (I've documented all of these thoughts and more here). And then we now have Mangini finally acknowledging that "There's no more time to wait," -- "He's going to get a lot of work." The guy hasn't failed as a starting RB yet, his team had more success with him behind the wheel, and they don't have a ton of other options at this point. I'll send everyone here a dollar if he doesn't rush for 150 yards in at least one game this year. THAT'S LIKE THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS PEOPLE. I don't see other predictors tossing out guarantees like that here (yes MoP, I'm looking at you).

Good luck in 2010, fellow kings of the sky.

Update? :hangover:

Things are looking good up in here in the nest. :hawkstare:
Easy on the shtick thieving, hoss. I built this from scratch.
Link?
You really need one? I'm willing to place a wager I'm singlehandedly responsible for the term Hawk. I don;t mind if you use it here and there but you can't just have it.
LOL @ the FFA fighting over Fantasy Football terms. Don't one of you have a supermodel to violate in one of your Bentleys right about now?

To sum up:

Sam Bradford

No actual prediction here.

Jerome Harrison

"rush for 150 yards in at least one game this year"

Not really a prediction for the season. Pretty easy to make this statement, actually.

Matt Forte

"a starting caliber fantasy back"

RB12 or better, I suppose.

Larry Johnson

"puts up starting RB numbers"

RB12 or better, I suppose.

Mike Williams

"break 1,000 yards receiving this year and catch at least eight touchdowns"

Wes Welker

"a top-8 WR"

Eddie Royal

"Eddie Royal will have 91 catches this year too"

Pierre Garcon

"top-15WR this year"

Todd Heap

"top-5-7 TE this season"

Heath Miller

"His 98 targets and 5 TDs from 2009 will inflate to 120+ and 10+"

Neil Rackers

"top-3 kicker this year"
Not looking good thus far Oats. Royal looks like a steal, Forte had 1 monster game followed by two clunkers, and that's it. Hawks battling the mendoza line by my count. OOf

Bradford's looked pretty good too. Still think Ohawks is grounded here - and the chickens may be roosting in his nest by end of week 6.

If the chickens do come home to roost, lets look for all the roosters to circle the wagons and try to hit 'em where the sun don't shine.

I think we all may be looking a gift mouth in the horse here.

I like Otis putting it out there...and many of these picks were "later in the draft" guys (except Forte and Welker).

What I found funny was Yudkin picking out, from all the guys listed, Welker as the mistake by Otis. :lmao:

Week 5 Review

We've had some sharks bumping the 'ol thread as expected. Of course, while most sharks only play a portion of the fantasy season, Hawks go through till the end. With that said, let's see where we are at this point:

Sam Bradford

We boldly pinned him at QB12 and indicated Clayton would be heavily involved. Bradford sits around QB18 depending on your scoring format. Clayton was looking like dynamite, at around WR10, before his season-ender. That's fine. Bradford will continue to develop as a rookie, Amendola will benefit, and watch for Denario Alexander to become a tremendous fantasy force in his own right, giving Bradford a real NFL WR1. He's not quite QB12 yet, but don't be surprised to see him continue to improve over time and move up from his current spot to get there, because this kid could literally thread a needle from 50 yards out. Truth. He went #1 overall in my hawk-only Elite Dyno XL III fantasy sewing league.

Jerome Harrison

HAHA OTIS, YOU WUZ WRONG. HAHA, HE SUX0R AND PEYTON HILLIS IS WAY BETTER.

No.

You know that scene in Tombstone, where Kurt Russel's character is fording the river with a rifle with a bunch of bad guys holed up under cover on the other side, and they're all firing at him wide out in the open, and there he is crossing the river, just firing and pumping that rifle, and picking them off one at a time, all the way yelling "no... NO... NO!"? That's what's happening here. I'm Kurt Russel. And yes, Harrison didn't look great yet in limited action this season. And yes, he got hurt. But he'll make the Browns coaching staff look like idiots (well, even more than they themselves do), and he's going to end up starting RB for the Eagles, and he'll make good on my promise to rush for over 150 yards at least once this year, and then I'll take that 30 grand I had in eskrow for you guys and I'll take a trip to Philly to watch him play from the 50-yard line the following week, and I'll spend the rest 30 minutes away in Atlantic City that night.

Matt Forte

RB4 right now. :hawkscreech:

BONUS: Larry Johnson

He's not on an NFL team right now. But he was a bonus throw-in. Even hawks don't see 20/20, gups.

Mike Williams

He's WR70, and I'm really disappointed, because I really am a big fan (of course, they've already had their BYE week, so he's actually ranked a bit higher than that). Kid is still an athlete and still has potential. In fact, you can have him for absolute dirt right now. Scoop him up now; send Coach Otis chocolate hearts later.

Wes Welker

His ADP was around WR20 preseason. I told you he'd finish top-8. He's averaging nearly 10PPG depending on scoring format, which, accounting for his BYE week, puts him at around WR14 at this point. And with Moss gone, I think he becomes an even more significant factor. He's already proven to be better than fair value, and he'll continue to produce throughout the season. You're welcome, finned ones.

Eddie Royal

I told you Eddie Royal had 91 catches as a rookie. (I told you that three times). I told you that Eddie Royal will have 91 catches this year too. Eddie Royal has 29 catches in five games. Eddie Royal is averaging 5.8 catches per game. Eddie Royal is on pace to have 92.8 catches this year. Eddie. Royal.

Bonus: Pierre Garcon

He was a bonus pick, so don't complain. If I get a free raffle ticket and I don't win the Vespa, I'm not sitting here complaining about it, because it was a freakin' free raffle ticket to begin with. Garcon has been disappointingly bad. I don't have him rostered in any of my leagues. I don't care much about him. Did I mention you should pick up Danario "The Scenario" up while you can? That one's free too. But it'll cash. In fact, just cross out "Pierre" and replace it with "Danario."

Todd Heap

Todd Heap really IS old. Babe Ruth struck out a lot. He also hit a bunch of home runs. When you swing for the fences, that happens.

Bonus: Heath Miller

Look, I can't predict that they'll be down to the ice cream guy at QB for the first 4 games, so there's little I can do about what he's done to date. But what I can tell you now is that his value never has been lower, and Big Ben is back, and Big Ben likes throwing touchdowns to this guy like Coach Otis likes throwing bad pickup lines at twenty one year olds. So just go pick him up. Justify it by saying "man, I need a BYE week filler at TE." And in a few weeks your TE decision each week will boil down to "no change," because Miller will just be rock solid and you'll be glad you read this thread.

?

We're not doing this here. I think there's a kicker thread in the AC Forum, though I'm not sure, since us Hawks have that forum permanently blocked in our browser settings.

Onward and upward in week 6, fellow kings of the sky.

You probably should post an e-mail because your pm box won't hold the 30,000 messages with addresses to send the dollar. I do have a legal question for you. Since your new wifey married you after this statement, is she on the hook for 15K and licking 15K envelopes or does she get a pre-marital pass?Actually I would propose a class action alternative that most would agree to. Write a $30,000 check to the charity of Joe's choice and we'll call it even and you can take the deduction. If J doesn't want to step up, I would suggest the Carolina Raptor Rescue Center. http://www.carolinaraptorcenter.org/donation_form.php Gotta help out those crippled hawks.

and he's going to end up starting RB for the Eagles
Otis, I usually respect at least some of your shtick, but what the hell are you smoking. McCoy ain't Westbrook, unless the dude snaps off a leg he's the starter. Harrison has absolutely no change of beating him out. Zero.Val.

It seems you've answered your own question, my fine, fast-swimming friend.

You know that scene in that awful Wyatt Earp movie, which was just a really bad competing version of Tombstone, where Kurt Russel's character is fording the river with a rifle with a bunch of bad guys holed up under cover on the other side, and they're all firing at him wide out in the open, and there he is crossing the river, just firing and pumping that rifle, and picking them off one at a time, all the way yelling "no... That scene was in Tombstone (w/ Kurt Russell), not in that crappy Wyatt Earp flick (w/ Kevin Costner). It's ok, I know you spend more time soaring than in a theatre.

:pickle: That's the only thing I've posted here in the past 3 years that I'm ashamed of. And I've posted lots of shameful things.

Sometimes it is not about the outcome of a fantasy prediction, but the process used to arrive at it. I think this poster here has a pretty good process in place. It has obvious flaws, but it is a pretty good start for a first pass. I will look forward to the Hawk List in 2011.

Regards,

THE FANTASY KING
