Colin Cowherd Reporting (1 Viewer)

whoknew said:
I was just listening to him briefly in the car and he went on a rant about how it doesn't matter who the President is - it doesn't affect his happiness. And if it affects your's, that says a lot about what kind of person you are - i.e., insinuating weak.

That's ridiculously naive and an easy thing for a straight white guy to say.
That is something a typical teenage girl would say.

Sounds like Colin will be on the air for the rest of the week, perhaps longer.

His opening remarks were all class and highly complimentary of ESPN and its people.

Considering previous divorces with Dan Patrick and Bill Simmons that led to those guys being yanked off the air, the fact that Colin returned after the news broke says a lot for Colin.

So Cowherd is going to Fox Sports, will ESPN use Jared the Subway guy in his place?

I was hoping Scott Van Pelt would fill his time slot but ESPN is so ####### unprofessional and shallow, we won't get that either. I'm guessing Stephen A. Smith somehow gets this time slot? Seems apropos.

Stephen A and Skip are unbearable

Colin Cowherd wonders how baseball can be considered “complicated” if Dominicans can understand it

“It’s too complex? I’ve never bought into that ‘baseball is too complex.’ Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic.”
I heard this when it aired live yesterday. It wasn't offensive in the full context of the discussion. A lot of sensationalist reporting over this. And I say this as someone who isn't much of a fan of his show anymore.

ESPN tried to keep Cowherd on staff, according to people familiar with the situation and made an aggressive bid to do so, including a raise in compensation. The company believes a competitor likely made a more compelling offer, these people suggested. Spokespersons for Fox Sports and NBC Sports could not be reached for immediate comment.
Seriously, get him off my morning drive-in, thanks.

I did notice he had recently taken to calling ESPN the "mothership" a la Dan Patrick, which is a bit of snark even if they do say it internally I don't think ESPN likes to hear it repeated publicly by their own.

"I've never bought into the idea that basketball is too complex. Most of the players are African American..."

Normally I think people take any excuse to play the race card and get too sensitive about things, but this one really had me cringing. I'm really not sure how he thought this was okay.

avg IQ Domincan Republic

Dominican Republic 82
I had an opportunity to meet with one of the guys that runs the farm system for an MLB team. He said only 6% of the players drafted from the DR will ever play in the majors. The rest will end up back in the DR, broke. The team sets up educational programs to get them the equivalent of a GED. Other than that, almost none of the Dominicans drafted by MLB teams have a high school education.

"@espnmikes: Colin Cowherd’s comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees. Colin will no longer appear on ESPN."

I just heard the clip. He's way too smart a guy to make a mistake like that. Was it FU move on his way out?

What he said was the truth, whether you like him or not. So instead of everyone criticizing him for it maybe someone in the media should try to actually bring light to this problem and help these guys out. Oh wait, that would actually require work. It's way easier to just kick a man when he's down.

What part was true?

Don't you know that any time you offend someone or hurt some blouse's sensitive feelings the public goes crazy over it?

Calling a spade a spade is no longer allowed as long as the hippie PC police are around.

People thinking baseball is this mental chess game. You don't have to be smart to play baseball. People aren't taking adderall before a baseball game, they are taking steroids. In baseball you need to be able to hit an ball with a stick, not engineer a bridge. Yes, what he said was brash, but if he wasn't on his way out the door this wouldn't have been an issue.

I guess if Colin said, "Baseball can't be too complicated because 15% of the players are black!"

We all would understand it better.

Very offensive in that the conclusion would be black players are not smart/intelligent.

Meh, get over it

It's slightly ironic that there is currently a controversy over the Dominican government kicking hundreds of thousands of Haitians out of the DR, in part, because many Dominicans think that the Haitians ruined the Haitian half of the island so they don't want Haitians coming in large numbers and bringing down the Dominican half of the island. Many Dominicans and their government are, in part, suggesting Haitians aren't sophisticated enough to be welcomed in large numbers even if they don't verbalize it in as stark terms as Cowherd.

One white dude on the radio sharing a similar sentiment regarding sophistication, but with far less negative consequences raises more ire in certain quarters, though.
