Colin Cowherd Reporting (1 Viewer)

What he said was the truth, whether you like him or not. So instead of everyone criticizing him for it maybe someone in the media should try to actually bring light to this problem and help these guys out. Oh wait, that would actually require work. It's way easier to just kick a man when he's down.
What part was true?
People thinking baseball is this mental chess game. You don't have to be smart to play baseball. People aren't taking adderall before a baseball game, they are taking steroids. In baseball you need to be able to hit an ball with a stick, not engineer a bridge. Yes, what he said was brash, but if he wasn't on his way out the door this wouldn't have been an issue.
No one cares about that part of his rant.

Yes, people do care.

Now that he's been removed from ESPN, instead of just filling out his contract; you wonder if he said to himself, "screw this, I might as well just say something mildly offensive that won't affect my Fox career, so I can get the heck out of here and have the summer off."

So Cowherd is going to Fox Sports, will ESPN use Jared the Subway guy in his place?

I was hoping Scott Van Pelt would fill his time slot but ESPN is so ####### unprofessional and shallow, we won't get that either. I'm guessing Stephen A. Smith somehow gets this time slot? Seems apropos.
I would burn someone's house down if that happened.

People are leaving ESPN right now quicker than Cosby can KO another victim. By giving him the boot, it looks like they are making a good PR move when in reality he was already leaving. And it slightly tarnishes his reputation when he goes to another competitor. Pretty slimy move by ESPN but I wouldn't expect anything different from those guys.

I dislike Cowherd as much as anyone alive but firing him for that is just silly. Not surprising in the current times, though. People are waiting for a reason to be outraged about something these days, even when it has nothing to do with them. I'm sure Herd has said similar things many times in the past. Now all of a sudden it's a big deal.

Exactly

He wasn't fired. He was leaving ESPN already. Sounds like they are simply choosing to take him off the air for the remainder of his time.

Colin Cowherd wonders how baseball can be considered “complicated” if Dominicans can understand it

“It’s too complex? I’ve never bought into that ‘baseball is too complex.’ Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic.”
avg IQ Domincan Republic

Dominican Republic 82
I had an opportunity to meet with one of the guys that runs the farm system for an MLB team. He said only 6% of the players drafted from the DR will ever play in the majors. The rest will end up back in the DR, broke. The team sets up educational programs to get them the equivalent of a GED. Other than that, almost none of the Dominicans drafted by MLB teams have a high school education.
How racist of you to point this out.

I'm not offended.

Should I be offended?

I'd argue that most people claiming to be upset are just PC a-holes.

I'm more than willing to be offended. It's the chic thing to do these days and I haven't found anything that really scratches the itch yet. The social issues of today are so passé, I have way more important things going on in MY life than to be bothered with who should be able to marry whom, what white police officer shot which criminal or what a relic from times past should represent to me 100 years after it had any significance. There is just nothing there to grab a hold of, I have things to do and simply can't be troubled with these trivial issues but this...THIS is something that speaks to me.So what's next? I'm new to this whole outrage thing so I need direction here. Are there shirts? Do I have to attend meetings? Are there fees associated with being outraged? Is a commemorative tattoo out of the question? Help me out here. TIA

I guess if Colin said, "Baseball can't be too complicated because 15% of the players are black!"

We all would understand it better.

Very offensive in that the conclusion would be black players are not smart/intelligent.

Meh, get over it
That analogy doesn't work here, but keep trying.

I'm offended that is such a poorly formed argument. Does anyone think football players are more educated than baseball players?

Considering that nearly every single player in the NFL went to college and nearly all foreign baseball players did not go to college, yes, football players are more educated than baseball players. That's doesn't necessarily mean more intelligent.

It works pretty well, it turns out, because the (ahem) "study" that's being touted as proof of the inherent intellectual inferiority of DR citizens was actually put forth by Richard Lynn in defense of his hypothesis that people with darker skin are inferior across a number of metrics.

But God bless Tommybigot for rushing in with the first anti-black link he could find, blissfully clueless that the Swastika on the flag he was waving didn't stand for "science." :lmao:

OK, keep blowing this up and distorting the argument that was originally put forth in order to satisfy your sanctimonious outrage. Make sure you also take to FB and all of your other social media outlets to continue your feedback loop as well.

Just another example of how people are stupid. Thanks for confirming my thesis

its not racist to point out a fact, even if that fact is uncomfortable.
If you're going out of your way to point out facts that make other races/ethnic groups look bad, then you're being a racist.

If Cowherd wasn't leaving next week there is no way he would have been fired. He tried to make a point that didn't come off eloquently. Who cares? I understand what he was saying. It's silly to even wade into those waters given the climate these days. The whole thing such a non-story. A guy on the radio who gets paid to have provocative opinions worded something that crossed the line and he explained his thinking and apologized. He's not racist. Espn saw an opportunity to damage a future rival as well as a chance to purify their own brand. Everything image-based these days because of people twitter always looking to be offended so they can come off morally superior. Cowherd has to do the walk of shame for a few days and then we'll all move on to the next "crisis". Strange times.

Facts?
It's not that minorities are worthless, it's just that they're not worth as much as a white person.
he basically said Domincans were dumb, not all black people. I'm sure you can make the distinction. and the facts support him, see my earlier post about the avg IQ in DR
Don`t ever call a Dominican black or Africa-American unless you are ready to throw down. It is considered an insult.

"@espnmikes: Colin Cowherds comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees. Colin will no longer appear on ESPN."
WE DID IT!!!
Berman still draws a check from Bristol, notsofast.
I don't mind Berman since he's not on my radio.
Your radio has only one station?
Your parents make you wear a helmet all day long, huh?

Well said.

In fact, it's the single best post in this thread.

I was just listening to him briefly in the car and he went on a rant about how it doesn't matter who the President is - it doesn't affect his happiness. And if it affects your's, that says a lot about what kind of person you are - i.e., insinuating weak.

That's ridiculously naive and an easy thing for a straight white guy to say.
Just catching up on this thread and stumbled across this gem. WTF?

I do business with people from PR and DR. The Puerto Ricans basically look at DR as the W Virginia of the Caribbean. And the Dominicans look at Haitians as the W Virginians of Hispaniola. Not really relevant to the thread, but it is funny how everyone has that neighbor state/country/town they look down on. No offense to W Virginia.

I am starting to think that it is board shtick to be offended at things and get outraged at all of these SJW issues that are being pushed today. I can't imagine any red blooded American male would come to a fantasy football website and get upset about some of this nonsense. Now that I am aware, I will adjust my postings accordingly.

Amen, whoknew. That chauncey guy must be one of those straight white redneck bigots, just like Cowherd.

Only people who even noticed this story are hardcore sports' fans. To those people this story plays bad for ESPN. They just look petty and disloyal.

ESPN pinches pennies and let's talent walk. At the point now that it's obvious they comfortable serving cafeteria food. Bad business.
