I hope Deion is at the draft with Shedeur while he falls in the draft and then watch them try to spin it like it’s exactly what they wanted to happen.
Funny you say that. I was telling a friend the other day I thought one of Sander's biggest issues (in my amateur and likely bad opinion haha) was that he has a skill set that aligns more closely with a Geno Smith or Teddy Bridgewater (right down to similar issues with ball velocity, fading out of the pocket instead of stepping up into it, bad pocket awareness for pressure/blitzes, etc) and if he would just play within that skill set I'd be confident he'd wind up better/more successful than either of them in the NFL (even though Geno has put together some good to great games now). The issue is he tries to play like Brady, and is reinforced by his father/coach that it is realistic to do so. He is not currently equipped to do that, and even the more tangible things he COULD do to align his playstyle with Brady's I haven't seen in any of the games I watched of him. If he could just play within his current skill set and work to improve from there I think he would/could be a lot better.I was listening to Dane Brugler on a podcast yesterday and I think he summed it up really well. While I would disagree with it (I'm not a Sanders fan any means but not impressed by Dart either) it's starting to sound more and more like he might not even be the 2nd QB drafted.
What he was saying was teams seem to either really like Sanders or hate him. He said he's some teams #2, he's not in other teams top 4. Ward is and has been QB1 without question for a long time now(something he's been saying for months fwiw)
He also made the point that when a team spends a first round pick on a QB, especially a high one, it's often an ownership decision. He was saying this pretty much in the context of he could see him taking a huge slide in the draft, but OTOH he could see Mark Davis instructing him to get drafted at 6.
I never in a million years saw Penix going that high last year. I will admit he was my 6th ranked QB last year, still is for that matter, but putting my feelings aside I saw that poll from league execs that ESPN put together the other day ranking out first round QB's chosen in last 5 years based on their PRE-DRAFT grade and only people Penix came in higher was Sanders and Pickett. My long winded point is that's why it's hard to forecast who might be QB2, just takes one team.
I'd still pick him as most likely to go QB2 but if he makes it past the Raiders could take a big slide. As a prospect I think he's basically Teddy Bridewater with an attitude and entourage that turns some teams off.
oh ********, they will take the best player regardless of any drama from the parent. Archie and Eli did this back in 2004 when they told the Chargers that if they draft Eli then he is sitting out the whole year. The Chargers used that to their advantage in their trade of him to the Giants.Funny you say that. I think this might also play into some of the negative feedback about his attitude/personality. If his confidence/ego has him unwilling to be coached at the next level, it will be an issue. Especially if daddy is on national television every day saying otherwise adding a lot of unwanted noise to the organization. I can understand some NFL staff's not wanting to deal with that at the cost of a high first round draft pick. Second round pick some of those risks feel more mitigated.
Well the main difference is most people don't seem to think Sanders is that good. At least not a 1.01 lock like Eli was; nor do I see a team trading away a 2x1sts/3rd/5th to move up and take him. Think I'm more likely to get struck by lightning than that happening.oh ********, they will take the best player regardless of any drama from the parent. I have Sanders as QB2 in this class, but man I do like that Teddy Bridgewater comp.I was listening to Dane Brugler on a podcast yesterday and I think he summed it up really well. While I would disagree with it (I'm not a Sanders fan any means but not impressed by Dart either) it's starting to sound more and more like he might not even be the 2nd QB drafted.

I can see him falling out of round one if he doesn't go top 10.
Packers will take him in the mid-20sI can see him falling out of round one if he doesn't go top 10.
One of the biggest issues with Sanders that I don't see being mentioned much is the overbearing father named Deion Sanders
It's almost like trying to coach Bronny James, you know the dad is lurking and looming around every turn
I would hate to be a head football coach in the NFL trying to make my way with Sanders as my starting QB
Every play and every thing you do in how you handle Sanders is going to be 2nd guessed by his father who has plenty of platform to get his message out, positive/negative
It has to weigh on front offices and GMs as well.
Do you invite this on to your team and at what cost? Sanders was thought to go Top 5-10, a fall to the 2nd round would be huge, is that possible?
Milroe in the 2nd round, just a guess on my part. One of the biggest issues with Sanders that I don't see being mentioned much is the overbearing father named Deion Sanders

I don’t know. I think all convos around Sanders is wrapped in “the circus” that would surround him.
As a Raiders fan with the team in position to draft him at 1.6 , it’s definitely a major concern.
watch Ward and Sanders go 1-2 after all this noise
That's funny because I felt like that last year where we were underselling the 6 QBs that went in the Top 12watch Ward and Sanders go 1-2 after all this noise

.@MelKiperESPN ranks Shedeur Sanders over Cam Ward as a better NFL quarterback![]()
“He dealt with NFL conditions. … You can win big in the NFL going about your business like Shedeur Sanders does.”
Tough guy to project for me. I think part of it is clouded by all of the extra noise that follows him (his bouts of immaturity, his dad, etc). I do not think he will be a big bust, but I honestly do not have a real good feeling on how good of a prospect he is. Some “experts” like how he battled under constant duress as that is a transferable trait to the NFL. I really have no interest in drafting him anywhere so I will defer to others that have seen him more than I have to form an opinion. This guy has bust written all over him, right?

He is an absolute athlete. Who was a better college prospect than him? This guy has bust written all over him, right?
it's bust or boom, no inbetween for me.

He's not even the best this year!Who is a better college prospect than Shadeur?
I dunno, about 10 guys minimum at this moment.
I'm kind of with you. I feel good about him being able to be an NFL starting QB, I don't feel great about his upside. But what he does well also translates well. The processing and accuracy. He's just average at best across the board with respect to size, arm and athleticism. This guy has bust written all over him, right?
I'm thinking the opposite, with so many projecting him to bust. I'm sensing shades of CJ Stroud here.

My opinion is the only way he absolutely strikes out as at least a low level NFL starter if is he keeps holding onto the ball to long which will likely lead to injuries or a possible benching because sacks in the NFL are not that far off away from turnovers with respect to killing drives.
Has sanders run a 40 this draft cycle?
I'm sure he'll goes in the first half of round 1.Has sanders run a 40 this draft cycle?
He didn't at the combine. Big 12 just had their pro day and he didn't participate. That said, this guy isn't making it past pick number nine of this draft, is he? Tennessee, Cleveland, NY Giants, LV Raiders, NY Jets, New Orleans Saints. That's six teams that need a QB. Tenn is tied to Cam Ward, but the rest are just sitting there. He's not going in the second to the best of my ability to suss things out. No way.
Shedeur seems to get compared to Geno Smith quite a bit.I'm kind of with you. I feel good about him being able to be an NFL starting QB, I don't feel great about his upside. My comp for him has been Teddy Bridgewater, who btw Kevin Stefanski spent multiple years with and apparently likes a great deal and even read some speculation last week he might be brougth in the Browns, which would make a lot of sense.

Now, the Shedeur Sanders discourse enters a new gear. I chatted with @joelklatt at length about the QB.
"He is equal parts surgeon and magician. He shows you a little bit of Joe Montana. He shows you a little bit of Fran Tarkenton."

You really think a one year contract with Russell Wilson changes anything?
I think they wait a year and then draft a QB when the prospects are much betterYou really think a one year contract with Russell Wilson changes anything?
Also, Daboll/Schoen need to win this season. The 2026+ team is almost irrelevant. Both these guys are fired if this isn't a playoff team.I think they wait a year and then draft a QB when the prospects are much betterYou really think a one year contract with Russell Wilson changes anything?
