QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (3 Viewers)

I think they wait a year and then draft a QB when the prospects are much better

Can Daboll and Shoen afford to do that? Also, what happens if they go something like 7-10 and are not in a spot to draft a top rookie QB? Not saying that means they have to draft Sanders if they don’t like him but I also don’t think you can simply say you will just address the QB position next year…you may not have that opportunity or you might get boxed in where you have to make a big trade.

Smart way to potentially buy yourself more time when there's a fire underneath you.

'We have a plan at QB but we're going to need a couple of seasons for it to come to fruition, gonna sit the guy we draft for a year and have him develop behind two experienced guys, long term thinking. You'd be crazy to fire us before we have a chance to see the plan out.'

This was exactly what I was thinking too. And the flip side of it that does seem to play out pretty often (I'm looking at you Chicago Bears) even if Daboll and Shoen do get fired after drafting one of these rookies, it almost always turns into a sore spot/excuse for the new coaching hire as they want to pick their own QB. Eg. "Sanders wasn't who I would have taken there and doesn't fit my offensive vision on what I want to build this team around yada yada...".

If they allow Daboll and Shoen take a QB with a high first round pick this year, they pretty much have to let them play it out at least 2 more years, if not 3. Otherwise be prepared to throw that QB in the trash along with Daboll and Shoen when they go.

Lot of double-taps and hitches from Shedeur today, NFL defenders close windows quickly, this was a concerning workout

Robert Griffin III
Shedeur Sanders with a beautifully placed deep ball off of play action. This is the perfect combination of air and distance on the throw with accuracy over the outside shoulder. He can throw the deep ball in the NFL and he understands ball placement. Stop the hate. Watch the tape

NFL on ESPN
"We can't praise Baker Mayfield and fall in love with Baker Mayfield because of his charisma, cockiness, his self-belief and then kind of view it differently with Shedeur."

—@danorlovsky7 on the criticism of Shedeur Sanders

So here is recently fired Titans GM interviewing Shedeur at his pro day.

I need more info to form a better guess.

I would assume some animosity between Ran and his replacement and the people that fired him.

So we know Deion famously avoided workouts for teams that had no shot at drafting him. It's not fair to cast that up on his son but he's also advising his son with best intentions.

I can't even confirm if Ran was hired by Deion and oh btw hired by CBS to hold a mic for a day.

A recently fired GM is a wise temp hire to help direct his son. Why haven't others done this?

But the animosity with the Titans must be strong too.

******
There's a myriad of reasons it could be cancelled.
Suppose it's a message- you're not meddling and neither is Deion. He'll be out QB and train with our coaches. I've heard Deion say things (not yesterday) that have given me pause and...yeah maybe that message needs to be sent.
It could be they're not drafting him.

One thing one thing....if I'm the Titans I'm wondering why he's there and thrown by it a bit.
I'm not sure "have a conversation with my boy and your former GM" would go so smoothly

There is no mystery here IMO. They cancelled with both Sanders and Hunter because they are picking Ward and I think phrasing it as "mutually cancelled" was the Titans way of showing grace.
How is an event mutually cancelled? Somebody has to suggest the cancellation first. Therefore that party cancelled it.

Its still kinda weird that at this stage of the smoke and mirrors process, a team would do this.

No, the smoke and mirrors comes from teams picking later in the draft. The first team doesn't need any smoke and mirrors. Either they're trading the pick or it's another player other than Sanders.

If it's Cam Ward or trade, why bother working out Sanders?
If it's Abdul Carter or trade, why bother?
If it's Travis Hunter or trade, who cares about Sanders?

You get my point. The whole sabotage/smoke and mirrors element comes from teams picking second or later.

To me it's understandable to do when you hold the 1.1 and know what you are going to do with it.

Sam Monson's mock has him going to the Saints. Which the betting markets (I come here like I were a comet very three years that no one cares about, but I wonder if Raider Nation's star has faded since he was a degenerate gambler whose time has finally arrived, yet maybe he tossed all his chips on the table years ago and checked out before the Gilded Age of the New Degenerates), have him being drafted. Which IMO could be a great fit, is Sanders more like a Carr than the only two other QB's in the first round of this draft?

I speak drummer. He occasionally posts on the board like a flying comet made of ice, dust, rock, and a cloud of gas, only nobody cares about his glowing tail in the sky (his posts here) for whatever reason. He does wonder; however, if former Shark Pool and FFA stalwart Raider Nation is burning brightly on the internet these days. He does this by poking fun at Raider Nation's pretty obvious over-the-top gambling habit and then allows for the possibility that Raider Nation left the board. (Ed note: He did and is on Twitter now where he keeps tabs on the idiocy that is Mike Francesa, and his Tweets are often reprinted by Mike Mushnick for his column in the New York Post.)

drummer then goes on to get in a further shot at the current gamblers/board members by likening the current state of the board to that of the Gilded Age of America, which took place from 1870-1910 or so and according to Google AI was characterized by a "veneer of wealth," rapid industrialization, Westward expansion, and, unfortunately, a whole lot of wealth inequality and political corruption.

Is this really that hard to envision?

Hey we want to cancel this due to X Y and Z
Well I'd really rather come do it, can we maybe start an hour early and shorten it a bit?
No, F that, we're cancelling it

Ok, I agree, those things are going to interfere with the ability to do it the right way. Let's circle back in a week and see if we can get it back on the calendar.

any QB signed in free agency this year isnt so prized that a team would pass on a possible starting QB. whether he is projected at #1 overall or if hes projected to go late first or early 2nd.

I'd suggest his mouthpiece of a dad would be a larger deterrant. I'd be more concerned that I'd have that guy bugging me about how I'm handling his son.

The ball patting with Sanders isn't that concerning but what bothers me is his NCAA record 20% sack rate on pressured passes, and his 3.1 second snap-to-throw rate, a full .5 seconds slower than the CFB average. That and his dad and calling out his o-line in college
His OL was bad. 23 more so than 24, but both. That said, he lacks escapability and hasn't demonstrated a willingness to take chances in tight windows. Not saying he's anywhere near DOA, but if drafted into the wrong situation this could quickly develop into a fatal flaw.

Check it, bleed. rockaction... was ON! Didn't trip. But the folks was freakin', Man. Hey, and the FBGs were laid to the bone, Homes.
So Blood hammered out and jammed translate. Tightened that bad sucker inside the thread like a mother.

Golly.

I think my point was made here looking at all the reaction. It's like going back 15+ years ago here. That's the great thing about this forum. It's like a Viking stuck in time, to borrow from Roger Furlong.

Hey MoP, just throwing something out there for all the career lifer FBG's who spend money on football. Like lots and lots of money on football, and have for as long as I have first signed on here. But now, you can have a podcast sponsored by Draft Kings. We are in a new age of decadence right at our fingertips. One thing I respected about RN is that he embraced all of it back in the day. He was a true man of enlightenment. He was just wrong about Alex Smith.

You said it better that I did. You not only speak better drummer than I had, but you also are very fluent in Raider Nation. It's like you can interpret the old FBG scrolls found among all the tickets tossed at an OTB. I'm glad you still follow RN on another platform. His team have moved to Valhalla. Too bad they still suck, but hey, they got Geno now.

If we were to talk drums - which there is a whole thread in the FFA which you can find here:

Then unlike rockaction, who can speak "drummer", you still haven't spoken as one.

1 City in 1 Night Tour got cancelled?

Ps. Steve Gadd FTW
Pps. I posted in that FFA thread ages ago. Who knows which page at this point.

He's basically doing the equivalent of Isaiah Bond promising to break 4.2 in the forty and then some. I just don't get the point/upside. If he does struggle in the NFL, as soon as he does, this will all come back on him tenfold. IMO the quotes he keeps putting out there far exceed someone displaying confidence. He's basically tilting at windmills at this point. Also already way too fragile with media criticism; which he will still be dealing with even if he plays at a Brady/Mahomes level. Better hope he plays as good as he thinks he will, you know before he gets around to "transforming franchises". An organization is made up 50+ players, 15+ coaches, countless front office employees... and the way he talks is as though they are all going to conform to who he is as a player and as a person. I'm far from being a coach/GM/owner, but I know I'd be looking to add people to my organization at all levels who are at the very least willing to do and be (within reason) what the organization needs to be successful as a whole. Some players transend the roles they were hired for and become more; become role models, inspirations, leaders off the field as much as they are on it. But I don't think any of them walk into that day 1... and typically you need to sing for your supper first. Excel in the role you're given first.

Even if those in his corner want to frame all this as his reactions to unfair scrutiny and bias; I still think his reaction to that scrutiny and bias leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I'm finally just in "old man" territory, but every time I read his new quotes with media, I like him less and less.

As a Bears fan, I hope he goes top 9. If not, there is some ammo to move back. I don't think Shedeur should fall out of the top 10.
it is hard to say where he lands exactly.

it feels like hes higly likely to be a first round pick but I could see him going anwhere between top 3 and top 25 if he slides.

My best guess is hes most likely to go between #3 overall and #12 with an outside chance he goes at #2. Though I am serious about his dad. feels like his dad will cause issues off field if he disagrees with how the team is managing his son. This (in my opinion) take away from his value.

I see it as a draft with a clear top 3 prospects. Ward, Hunter, Carter.

Then there is a second tier of 4-5 guys in Jeanty, Graham, Campbell, McMillion, and Maybe Warren. I'm sure some teams have other names in here.

After that, it's pretty wide-open talent/value wise. QB being the most important position, I don't see how a team doesn't take Sanders to lead off this tier of player.

I was kind of anti-Deion for a minute, but McAfee was talking to Rapaport about these scenarios and made a comment about how Sheduer has more spotlight maturity than most do at his age. Teams could see that as a plus. Especially if he goes to New York.

With all the Carr stuff, I feel like New Orleans is the tipping point. Either they draft him, or someone moves up to get ahead of New Orleans.

I agree. in most cities this and his dad being the helicopter parent I'd be concerned. Though in a place like New York I do think it could be an advantage as hes familiar with the media and how they can be because of his dads experience.

but you still need a coach firm enough to keep him (and more importantly his dad) reigned in. you cant have dad spouting off every time he disagrees with a coaching decision regarding his boy. that wont sit well anywhere.

I think there is a chance he falls so much this article should read the Giants, owners of pick 34 and two third round picks, are hosting Shedeur.

Robinson L. Wittmore
Giants like Shedeur Sanders. There is no questioning that. I’m told this workout is a “how high are we willing to come back into R1” for the player.

Ross Tucker Podcast
“To me he's a ball distributor and an executor of an offense… The name that often comes up as a comparison for him is Geno Smith.”

@GregCosell breaks down Shedeur Sanders:

Brian Baldinger
.@CUBuffsFootball @ShedeurSanders can your QB handle the blitzes and the short edges as well as Sanders did? He made a lot of CFB defenses pay for fheir pressures. #nfldraft #BaldysBreakdowns
