QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (4 Viewers)

Prediction: Jerry Jones signs Deion Sanders to head coach of the Cowboys for multiple years.
Dallas trades Dak and the 12th overall pick to the Titans for the 1st overall pick to draft Shadeur. If necessary, Deion announces Shadeur would be unwilling to play for the Titans to help facilitate the trade.
Plot twist: All of the above happens, except Deion then declares Shadeur would be unwilling to play for Dallas. Jerry is stuck with Deion and no Shadeur. It would be perfect.

It wouldn’t be perfect but it’s a helluva lot better than being stuck with the kid in any capacity.

NFL Rookie Watch
Shedeur Sanders is reportedly “drawing significant interest” from personnel inside the Titans and Browns, who just secured the No.1 and No.2 overall picks.

Sanders was reportedly “planning on” being selected by the Giants, but barring a blockbuster trade, could fall to the Browns or Titans.

However, several NFL scouts reportedly have a “range of grades” on Sanders with grades ranging from the top-five, to the fourth round.

Sanders will not be attending the NFL Draft, but will celebrate his pick from Colorado.

The Buffaloes QB may be QB1 in Cleveland or Nashville soon 😳
This would be sooooo Browns... and I love it for them.

This would literally be the most Browns pick ever.

The Cleveland Browns will never be in danger of having Sanders at QB. Dad will NEVER allow his kid to go there.

And the Browns, in frustration and embarrassment (especially after coming off giving Watson the worst contract in NFL history), still pick him in the draft and hold firm refusing to trade Sanders away to another team.

I can only hope this is the circus we get to watch come April/May.

But that is why it would by far be the most entertaining version.

LOL, he thinks he's good enough to hold his own rights and dictate which team he goes on. Simply because its a super weak QB class; hopefully the Browns sell the pick for a ton

I would like to trade Dak because of his outrageous salary, but not Dak and the #12 pick. Maybe if Sanders was still available at #12, Dallas could take him and then try to trade Dak.

"There's pretty split opinions around the league on Shedeur Sanders..

He has a pure throwing motion and it is real pretty the way that the ball comes out of his hand..

He's extremely accurate and he's incredibly tough" ~ @MoveTheSticks #PMSLive

LOL, he thinks he's good enough to hold his own rights and dictate which team he goes on.

That there aren't more college players going into the draft saying "lol not playing for you" is absurd
I think this happens way more than we realize. It just isn’t made public.

Players turn down interviews/meetings with certain teams.

I’m sure they’re flat out asked if they want to be a Bear, or a Jet, or a Jaguar.

If the answer is no it should factor into the evaluation.

There are a lot of similarities between the offense Sanders ran at Colorado, rich with zone running and shotgun formations, and the playbook of the Browns in Madden. Cleveland has 17 formations out of the gun in Madden 25, with the majority of their run plays being on zone blocking schemes.
One of the most common misconceptions about Sanders is that he’s a dual-threat QB, when in reality he’s a prototypical pocket passer with elusiveness, which is why he thrives out of the gun with some time to process the field.

Why stop there BC? Why not just say Joe Montana if you're going to be belligerently off base in your comp? There are probably 50 QBs over the past decade who had questions on arm strength coming into the NFL and you pick the one who's also a top 3 QB in the game right now? Lol. I'd believe Shedeur and Burrow were twins separated at birth before I believed Callahan truly thinks Sanders scouted as a comp to Burrow coming out.

He's going to be a bust and I hope the Titans don't take him. BC could just be talking him up to get the raiders or someone dumb to give us 2 firsts and a 2nd

Anyone else think he's doing a disservice to himself by not participating in the combine? I get it's easy to keep kicking him and say it's because he'll do poorly; but even as someone who is not high on him, I don't think he would look that bad running drills in the combine. In fact I think he could show out well there, especially compared to the other lackluster QBs of this class, and quiet some of this "Shedeur is bad" narrative. Most of his issues to me revolve around holding onto the ball too long, a slow release, bad pocket awareness, and a drastic loss on ball velocity once he's hitting the 25-30+ yard passes. And I don't think any of those are really at risk of being magnified by the drills they do in the combine anyhow (other than maybe that last one, but without an NFL level DB closing in on his target, it still probably wouldn't be super visible).

Players like Jeanty skipping the combine, sure it stinks as a fan, but I get it. He can do very little to help his draft stock, and could risk hurting it (or even himself). Players like Shedeur who are surrounded with negative analysis and question marks seem like the exact guys who should be showing up. Sure he's (maybe) the top QB in this class. But his at best middle of the pack in QB prospects over the past 5 years or so. And getting taken top 5 seems like a big difference to sliding to the middle or end of the first. Yeah, I don't really think the latter will happen either regardless; but I still think he's the opposite of Jeanty; I think there's little he could do to hurt his prospects considering how he's already largely viewed by the community, but a lot he could do to help.

"Skipping the throwing portion of the combine isn't a red flag, it's just the new norm."

-Dan warns against the overblown outrage surrounding Shedeur Sanders' decision not to throw at the combine.

“We have 50 games of him throwing the football in the state of Mississippi and the state of Colorado at two separate programs at a high level.”

@FBallGamePlan is fine with Shedeur Sanders not throwing at the Combine:

Chase Daniel
Absolutely the right decision by Shedeur Sanders to not throw at the combine.

But, are we sure he’s QB2 in the draft?

Cosell is not wrong about Sanders. His tendency of backing up in the pocket under pressure is a huge red flag. The Alamo Bowl really highlighted his negatives vs a D that showed him some complexity in their schemes. He's going to struggle vs the closing speed of pass rushers in the NFL.

2. I think the gap between Ward and Shedeur Sanders is bigger than it's being described.

A "chasm", @mikerenner_ called it. (He thinks Sanders is closer to Dart than Ward.)

I didn't talk to anyone who had him as their QB1.

And *everyone* I talked to about why he might go in the top 5 mentioned "QB needy teams" as the top reason.

That feels like poor process to me. Risky.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went later than expected.

I am disappointed to hear that a quarterbacks coach from a team drafting in the top 7 referred to Shedeur Sanders as coming off “brash” and “arrogant” in his team interview and making his assessment known to a number of people, per source. I’m purposely not naming the team, as not to directly call the team out. I’m just sharing that this coach’s personal assessment is the direct opposite from how Sanders came across to many reporters in his press conference with the media at the Combine. Sanders appeared to go out of his way to acknowledge multiple media members, regardless if they were recognizable or not. He seemed cordial, polite, witty, thoughtful along with being confident (as many athletes are). Alternately, these observations were distinctly different from how another QB prospect came off to some in the media last year in Indy.

According to league sources, said QB coach seems to have issue with “the culture” of athletes who have broad fame and financial success before entering the NFL, and in their* opinions, appears to them to have a problem certain athletes—I’ll leave it at that.

This is how pre-Draft evaluations can get jacked because of evaluators who don’t seemingly possess the discernment to detect intangible traits that are connected to the will and drive to win without being a stat, or delineated in an analytics report.

He’s literally Deion Sanders’ son, and despite growing up different from most, seemed fairly grounded.

Hopefully any potential biases towards “the culture” are being checked at the door, as not to unduly impact stock & business. The modern day college athelete is evolving, as is the scale of business and opportunities surrounding them before entering professional leagues.

Adaption sounds necessary, and not just for Sanders.

The coach is also not in favor of getting him. That is what prompted my post, because there are other folks in the building who vehemently disagree with that assessment. The comments (all of which I did not report) were over the top. Even beyond football, Sanders is obviously a marketing star as well.

I mean sure, he played well for the Buffaloes, but TIL that Jackson State is “at a high level.”

While I would disagree with it (I'm not a Sanders fan any means but not impressed by Dart either) it's starting to sound more and more like he might not even be the 2nd QB drafted.

Doubts about handling pressure and escapability should not be taken lightly in modern NFL.

That said, Stroud and Penix faced the same. Shade and Dart may or may not have that ability, and I don't know if they do, but I do agree that if they don't, they will be busts regardless of draft position.

She should really just come out and say he's being discriminated against because of his race instead of dancing around it for 500 words of nonsense. I guess she wouldn't have been able to hit the word count for her blurb by just cutting to the chase though. "And the comments I'm not reporting on were even worse!!!" Give me a break. If she had something to print to get herself more media traction she would. And I'm sure if he slides in the draft like some people are speculating this and more nonsense like it will wind up being the story line shoved down our throats for the next month or so.

For those thinking this is out of the blue, it's not. Josina has a history of speculatory race baiting.

Hope Shedeur proves everyone wrong with his talent on the field as that will speak the loudest, and really the league is in need of more high level QBs. But the circus is growing boring already IMO. It's not the first time people have questioned his attitude/character. Nor the first time a rookies attitude/character in general was put in question. Nor the first time some evaluators feel one way and others feel another. Pretty sure all that is how the Eagles got Jalen Carter at 9, a steal in hindsight.

I dunno. If my team is picking in the top 7 then maybe brash and arrogant is what we need...?

If it's "top 7" that means it's either 6 or 7 - which means it's either Greg Olson of the Raiders or Charles London of the Jets.

I'm sure some teams will certainly look at it like that. Descriptors like "brash and arrogant" quickly turn into "decisive and confident" once you get a few wins under your belt, especially in a franchise that hasn't seen em in a while.

I was listening to Dane Brugler on a podcast yesterday and I think he summed it up really well.

What he was saying was teams seem to either really like Sanders or hate him. He said he's some teams #2, he's not in other teams top 4. Ward is and has been QB1 without question for a long time now(something he's been saying for months fwiw)

He also made the point that when a team spends a first round pick on a QB, especially a high one, it's often an ownership decision. He was saying this pretty much in the context of he could see him taking a huge slide in the draft, but OTOH he could see Mark Davis instructing him to get drafted at 6.

I never in a million years saw Penix going that high last year. I will admit he was my 6th ranked QB last year, still is for that matter, but putting my feelings aside I saw that poll from league execs that ESPN put together the other day ranking out first round QB's chosen in last 5 years based on their PRE-DRAFT grade and only people Penix came in higher was Sanders and Pickett. My long winded point is that's why it's hard to forecast who might be QB2, just takes one team.

I'd still pick him as most likely to go QB2 but if he makes it past the Raiders could take a big slide. As a prospect I think he's basically Teddy Bridewater with an attitude and entourage that turns some teams off.
