Colts could rest their starters in Week 17

Coach Tony Dungy said he will rest his players in Week 17 if the Colts win Thursday night.

Dungy will rest any player with a minor injury and most of his important starters. It means that Peyton Manning, who has thrown for 3,543 yards through 14 games, is unlikely to reach 4,000 for the ninth time. And Reggie Wayne, who has improved his yardage numbers in each of his seven NFL seasons, will see his first regression. Dec. 18 - 10:24 am et

Sounds good to me. Just have Peyton go ahead and throw for 460 yd tonight then, mmkay? :kicksrock:

Seriuosly though, what worries me is not that Peyton doesn't get another start (he will) and at least 1 quarter of work in Week 17. What worries me is if by some reason the Colts are up 2 or 3 scores in the 4th tonight, that he sits down for the "garbage" time. If it goes down that way..."I shall be very...put out."

Hasn't Manning started every game since he came into the league? He'll likely work the first series in Week 17. And knowing how mindful he is of his stats, if he has a strong passing output tonight vs. the Jags, he may play just long enough to reach 4K yards next week.

If Pittsburgh wins, won't both teams be tied at 12-3 going into the last game? How could that last be meaningless unless the Titans win?

If the Titans lose this week, this could be good news for WK17 super bowl Chris Johnson owners.
why?? I could the titans resting him as well. After the Pitt game home field will be decided one way or another. Absolutely nothing to play for
oh thats true, nevermind.
No, it's not. If Pitt beats Tenn this week, then they will have identical records, with Pitt holding the tiebreaker because of their victory in H-to-H. If that were to happen, then Tenn would be playing to win week 17. If Tenn wins week 17 & Pitt loses, then Tenn is the #1 seed. Now if Tenn beats Pitt this week, then Tenn has secured the #1 seed & could rest players week 17.

Less than 100 yards to go for another 4K season? I'm pretty sure we'll see Manning next week for about a quarter or so to lock that up.

After last night's victory, it looks like this may happen. I don't think the Colts can improve their seeding, correct?
Correct. They locked in the #5 seed.Hopefully no one plays their championship in week 17, but if you do, I'd look for other options.I would guess Manning, Wayne, Addai (obviously) and maybe even Rhodes see a lot of time on the pine in the final week.
