Been a Cowboys fan since age 8. Like many outside of Texas, I became a fan for a few reasons; A) They were really good. B)They were ALWAYS on TV and C) growing up in New England under the blackout rules, the Patriots were terrible and never on TV. Many of my earliest childhood memories come from watching Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Randy White, and Too Tall Jones on Sunday afternoons, battling the Redskins and the Eagles.

Of all my friends (my crew is between 38 and 40 years old), there are only two guys who loved the Patriots from the onset on fandom. The rest of us liked either the Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, and Chargers. Many of these guys "converted" around 1986, the year the Patriots got crushed by the Bears in the Super Bowl.

As for me, I've never, and never will, change. I've been to Dallas twice to see the Cowboys play. I've traveled to New Jersey, Philly, San Francisco, and Foxboro to see the Cowboys play. Like anything else, loyalty is key. No matter what happens, and I think Jerry Jones is a HORRIBLE owner, I will always root for the Cowboys.

Admittedly, the Cowboys are the ultimate bandwagon team, but there are many lifers who live outside of Texas. I think the single greatest factor in this lies in TV exposure. For my age demographic, there simply wasn't the variety and quantity of games there are now, nor Sunday Ticket. You got what you got on Sunday afternoons and those of us gravitated to the good teams that were on TV.

Hmmmm......I think I get what you are going for here.

First off, I live in Canada so its hard to catch home games live for obvious reasons. I do try to see the Boys play once every couple of years when they play on the road. I've been to Detroit, Buffalo and Tampa.

The first game I ever watched as a kid was "The Catch". Rooted for the Cowboys all game and was crushed when they eventually lost. Loved everything about them including style of play, the players, Landry, the star and of course the cheerleaders. 1992 was a great year-Cowboys Superbowl, Blue Jays World Series and the Leafs almost got to the Cup. Stupid Kerry Fraser. I digress.....anyway I have been 100% faithful as a Cowboys fam and I'm delighted to say that my oldest son is also a budding Cowboys fan. He has a Romo Jersey and now wants a Dez jersey.

I doubt I fit the mold of a "typical" Cowboys fan.

Anyway, thats my story.

There is no other team I enjoy seeing lose more than the Cowboys. And I'm a Packer fan. I do like watching the Vikings and Bears lose. But I LOVE watching the Cowboys lose.

I hate the yankees, celtics, dukies and irish, but I'm a Cowboy fan whose been to home games in three different stadiums. That includes the Cotton Bowl, where I saw them lose to Jim Brown and the Cleveland Browns as a wee lad. I also share Laker season seats.

Oregonian by birth. Live in Boston now.

Season tickets holder since 2004. Was making enough trips every year, why not.

Nosebleeding in section 441.

Tale of two worlds. Have historic Fenway 1/4 mile from my apartment. Rustic, character, charm. Then go down to Dallas and get swallowed up in the most incredible sports venue I've ever been to. It's a remarkable home that Jerry built. Love going there every year.

DC native who first grew up in Philly till I was 10. Dad was a Skins fan but many relatives were Cowboy fans due to Staubach coming from Naval Academy (lots of Navy in family including Dad). I quickly latched onto the Cowboys with Tony D and Roger (although I barely remember watching him play). The Danny White years were tough but the 90s were sweet. Now we must hope Romo can be Roger and not Danny!

This poll is obviously a shot at the dirt squirrel Cowboys fans, I get it. There are few of em out there.

Like many Americans, I grew up in a state with no NFL team. It was the early 80's when I first started watching sports, and I'm really not sure how I settled on the Cowboys. Maybe the TV exposure. I really liked watching Tony Dorsett, and would try to emulate him as a youngster. For instance, I would be Dorsett in backyard football games. From my 1st year playing football, all through high school my number was 33, even though I was a FB and LB.

I became a fan in the Danny White era. Guys like Bill Bates, Everson Walls, and Eugene Lockhart were some of my faves. I was in high school for the first two 90's SB's. Those were good times. BUT, it's not easy being a Cowboys fan. It used to get to me a bit. You constantly have to justify your fandom. It's definately not "cool" to be a Cowboys fan unless you live in the Dallas area. It's "cool" to be a Green Bay fan cause its a small town, the fans own the team, blah, blah, blah, Vince Lombardi, blah, blah.........

The bandwagon fans, well they almost make you wish the Cowboys stay mediocre so you dont have to deal with the accusations of being a bandwagon fan yourself, and get lumped in with a bunch of toothless wonders that come out of the trailer park woodwork. I said almost.............Then theres Jerry Jones. I'm tellin ya, it aint easy. I've learned to embrace it. Just because I'm a Cowboys fan doesnt mean I'm ignorant, white trash.

The thing is, when you are a kid these guys and teams become your heros. I remember being so excited about Herschel Walker, and then they traded him! HAHA!! I took it seriously as a youngster, and I take it seriously now. No way would I ever not be a Cowboys fan. And, my Cowboys come before fantasy by a long shot.

I'm still pissed about how Tom Landry was relieved, and how Jerrah ran Jimmy outta town.................####### Jerry Jones!!!!!

I also grew up in a state without an NFL team. I was a Tony Dorsett fan, and then a fan of Herschel Walker, and then Emmitt who is still my favorite football player of all time. At one point I had both Tony Dorsett and Herschel Walker posters on my walls and I even sketched them and got extra credit in 7th grade art class. Then it was a Texas Twister poster of Emmitt and tons of his cards. I still remember buying the 1990 Score Supplemental set at the mall and then another time still during Emmitt's rookie year (or maybe it was the next year) but it was a photo of Emmitt from his rookie year breaking away from Jets players, signed by Emmitt and matted and covered in acrylic (never met him though), just bought it at a memoribilia show. Lots of ups and downs over the years. I was still a dedicated fan in the 1-15 season and everyone knew I was a big fan even that year. The worst was watching the NFC championship game with 49er fans in college when we lost. They were relentless. At least I have the memories of watching us win the Super Bowl the following season and making it 3 in 4 years.

Doesn't it suck that the most hated teams in sports are historically among the best? Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers. Weird, isn't it. I do have a serious question though. Was it better watching (1) your team win the Super Bowl (2) your team win the Super Bowl without Old Man Mississippi (3) or Wade Phillips era in Dallas? I'll hang up and listen.

Awwww, it does mean that, but just embrace it and enjoy the upcoming season.
I will have you know that I live in a triple wideI have a life size cardboard cutout of Troy Aikman in my living room.My favorite beer is Natty IceMullets are makin a come back, which is alright by me.NO WAY I'M W.T.!!

I'm a native New Yorker (Queens) who moved to the DC area at the age of 7. At the time my step-father introduced me to football and was a die-hard Skins fan. Every Sunday he would have the fellas get together and watch the games but I noticed how much more intense they were when the Skins played Dallas. This intrigued me and made me wonder just who were these guys with the cool Star on their helmet....and then I saw Tony Dorsett run the ball. From that moment on (1981) I have bled blue and silver. There have been highs and lows but that goes with all teams, its just that expectations with Dallas are always through the stratosphere (and rightfully so dammit). The bandwagon fans do kill me especially when they can't name 3 starters on the offensive line and the first thing out of their mouth is how bad Tony Romo is. They must not remember Gary Hogeboom, Quincy Carter etc...

Anyway my sig says it all.

Really just curious more than anything else. I used to hate the Cowboys but then got to know about Philadelphia. The Cowboys have such a huge following I thought it would be an interesting topic. I've enjoyed the stories posted by Cowboy fans here thus far.

Cowboy Fan, have a suite on the Silver level, been fan since my younger years.
Wow for real? Thats really cool. I just moved to Fort Worth from Austin and I am going to be going to my first home game this season. I am pretty excited about it. I grew up watching them on TV and everything...family is huge Cowboys fans. Anyways, looking forward to the cheaper prices for football tickets this season...

I love it when someone calls me a bandwagon jumper and makes fun of me because the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since '98 all in the same conversation.

I root for the Yankees, but I am from NJ. We have tons of Cowboy fans here.

Interesting question. I'll put them in this order.1. Winning the Super Bowl, although XXXI was more memorable as it was the first in my lifetime.2. Wade Phillips era in Dallas, and I'll add Tony Romo era in Dallas. Romo seems like a nice guy (and he's a Wisconsinite) but his "water off a ducks back" approach to football kind of drives me crazy. The bobbled extra point is one of my Top 10 favorite plays of the last decade.3. Winning it without Favre. I loved Favre for the 15 great years he gave the Packers but I lost respect for him when he chose not to take the graceful approach to working with/against Packer management. Not to say it was all his fault, but I expect management to be a-holes, I didn't expect Favre to be as much of one as he turned out to be. Sick thing is, I still got a thing for him. Every Packer fan does, whether they want to admit it or not.4. I'll add as a current northern Californian with much family linked to Cal, loved seeing Aaron get his. Dude's from Chico and played ball at Cal. That is sweet.

i live in mexico but i had to vote for the "Have a parent that is a lifelong fan" option

Me gustaría saber de donde son el resto de los mexicanos que han votado en este poll, manden mensaje, alomejor y armamos una buena liga.
